40 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/05/2011

Just purchased 2 wks ago a 2005 Nissan Xterra. At first the fuel gauge was slow to show the fuel level but it showed if it was half full or close to empty. Now just two days ago our daughter called us saying she just filled the vehicle with gas and the fuel gauge is showing it is completely empty - fuel light is on. I have been all over the internet looking at how to fix the problem and how common of a problem it is-wow, its a seriously common problem. This is a serious hazard for my young teenage daughter! if she runs out of gas it could cause an accident. There appearts to be no recall on this and from what I am seeing, it costs a lot of money to fix this problem-a problem that Nissan should fix!.

44 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/20/2010

My Nissan Xterra has a fault fuel gauge sending unit, the senor went out but I am past the 72k extended warranty. I received a letter in the mail today indicating that if this particular item is being extended to customers of the Nissan Xterra but up to 72k miles, I currently have 75k on my call. Once I called Nissan and asked if this could be extended as a courtesy because I just received the letter today I was not given a clear answer but instead told to go to a dealer have them run the dx and then have the dealer contact Nissan? im confused why can't they just extend it for me since I have already had the diagnostics completed by someone other than Nissan. Please help me.

47 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/10/2010

My Nissan Xterra has a problem with the fuel gauge sensor. The sensor reading comes and goes and I have even ran out of gas once. There was a recall out on this for immediate repairs and one that gave an extended mileage warranty to 72,000 miles. I called Nissan in may 2010, and was told that they were still dealing with getting the correct part and to call back in a few months. I was around 66,000 miles at that time. I had a friend at work who had the same problem and he had it into the dealer 4 times and it wasn't until around September when it got fixed with the right part. So knowing that, that is when I called in since I knew they had the correct part. I took it in for the fuel gauge and front crash sensor recalls, and they only fixed the one. Nissan told me that the fuel gauge recall for my vehicle was only good til 72,000 miles, and I was over that. I don't believe this is fair since I was trying to get it fixed and I was under that mileage in may, but while waiting on Nissan to get it right, from may to September, I obviously put on more miles and it put me over. Now they say they wont cover it. This is not my fault, and other Xterras with this issue are getting this covered, I feel that I am entitled to the same. Thanks.

50 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

53 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/17/2010

My check engine light came on back in January 2010. I had the code run at a local auto parts store. Code is p0463, definition: fuel level sensor circuit high input probable cause. 1. Open or short circuit condition 2. Poor electrical connection 3. Faulty fuel level sensor since the light has come on, I'm getting a faulty reading from my fuel gauge. It gives inaccurate readings and I'm now forced to use my odometer to prevent running out of fuel. I read online about a potential recall so I waited to have the repair done. I contacted my dealership and they said to expect a letter in the April and may timeframe. Nissan issued a recall for 2006 and 2008 Nissan Xterra's. I have a 2007 and I have the same problem as the other years included in the recall. I would like the 2007 to be included in the recall since it has the same issues.

60 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/23/2009

Upon filling my 2007 Nissan x-terra (with 42000 miles) I noticed that my fuel gauge was not reading full. Soon after my service engine soon light came on. I called the dealer and was told that this sometimes happens and my needle would work itself back up and after a few trips my ses light would go off. I have since done a little research and come to find out that this is a widespread problem not only with x-terra but with other models as well. There is are multiple sites such as Nissan help. Com ,x-terra world. Com where people all over are have this same issue and asking for help. There is also a service bulletin reference number for this problem (ref #ntb07-069) so obviously someone has acknowledge its existence. I also have picture proof that Nissan has since fixed the problem in the modification of the replacement part changing the original part because the fuel gauge is not working properly my concern is that should I run out of gas in the middle of traffic or at a traffic stop not only could there be an accident but possible if not probable loss of life. Also, in California we are required to smog are vehicles every 2 years and with my ses light on this will be impossible without extremely expensive repairs and as a single parent would leave me financially bound. My warranty of course has just expired at 36,000 miles however the problem still exists and existed before the expiration of the warranty. I am also in the midst of writing the national board of consumer affairs as well as Nissan customer affairs and my congressman ken calvert.

61 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/06/2009

Fuel gauge recall - Nissan I own a 2005 Nissan Xterra, that is not covered under the recent recall for Nissan vehicles with the fuel gauge problem. My problem was on 04/06/2009, and cost me $443. 65+tax to have fixed. I have contacted Nissan, and all I got was "a call back in 3 weeks" response. The current recall covers Nissan "xterras" produced between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008. The problem existed prior to that, my 2005 Xterra. I believe the recall should be extended to cover 2005 models, and that Nissan should give me my money back. The problem was not my fault. . . . . . . .

67 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/27/2006

I have a 2006 Nissan Xterra off-road that was bought new in may of 2006 and now has approximately 12,000 miles. Within the last few weeks a few times the gas gauge has become erratic. After a fill up the gauge will drop to around 3/4 full after only 25+ miles being driven and other times reads correctly as the gas is used. I have checked gas used against odometer mileage and it seems correct -- so no leaks! dealers have been called but no ideas, and it has not been taken in for this complaint yet. I plan on checking the obdii port for error codes prior to taking to dealer.
