36 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/05/2016

Transmission failure: while driving car began to sputter like engine or drive shaft was stuck, speed and power decreased rapidly in traffic nearly causing me to crash vehicle looking for a way to get out of driving lane. I pulled in a parking lot turned vehicle off, to inspect tires, engine and transmission fluid. Checking fluids noticed transmission fluid thick like a milk shake, checked coolant, it too was the same. All this out of no where. I googled problem and found many with same issue and that car wouldnt start also due to wet electrical parts in transmission that pops a breaker not allowing restart. I check 10 amp fuse, it was broken. Got car towed to near family home, began researching and find out that Nissan was aware of trans cooler problem that will cause transmission failure. Also, that this issue most likely happens after 100,000 miles, which I also found out Nissan only covered this under an extended warranty with CO-pay to that amount, which I never was notified of this issue. My car was financed with a major us bank, same emails since purchase. I went to dealer, called nissn north America and was quickly dimissed with my vehicle has to many miles and campaign is over and wont speak futher due to some lawsuit. Really?? I live in illinois where its cold, what happens when you break down in the middle of no where? this should not happen to a car like this, me being the only owner and just had Nissan inspect my vehicle due to engine light being on previously. This is a dangerous thing. Thousands of people been affected. Dealer quoted me $4900 for repairs and stated this was a common issue. They should be responsible and pay for total repairs regardless of miles. What happens while traveling at highway speed and thebtransmission stops? I'm a commercial driver, seen many accudents. This could have been fatal. Recall this please, their liable.

37 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/06/2016

My ecu on my Nissan Xterra was supposedly shorted due to a loose or damaged cable. With my initial inspection of the vehicle, the cable was not loose, yet I still had problems. The issue happened when I had parked my vehicle to run an errand. When I returned, I started up my vehicle and attempted to drive. There was no power and the engine would not accelerate over 5 mph. Not wanting the vehicle to breakdown on a busy road, I backed up and parked the vehicle. I attempted to restart the vehicle, but this time the starter would crank, but would not turn over. After attempting to start it a few times, I disconnected the batteries and reconnected the batteries. Still, the vehicle would crank and not turn over. I called a tow truck, and they brought the vehicle to firestone. Firestone told me that the battery cables had shorted and destroyed teh ecu/ecm. I was quoted 1500 for a piece of equipment that should last the life of the vehicle. The vehicle is only 5 years old. This sounded like a very intensive process, so I had the vehicle towed to Nissan. Again, they said it was the ecu/ecm. Nissan told me that the cables, the battery and the ecu needed to be replaced. Nissan has had past issues with 2010 vehicles shorting out and destroying the ecu's. I believe that it is Nissan's faulty electrical systems or poorly constructed ecu's that is causing the damage. For such an expensive piece of equipment to be rendered useless by having an imporper battery connection seems problematic and potentially unsafe. It is problematic, due to teh history of Nissan's cables becoming corroded due to their battery position. Likewise, there have been many consumer complaints that the battery terminals are poorly made, resulting in vehicle failure. This can be dangerous, for if the battery terminals fail, it can cause the vehicle to stop functioning, even when it has been started.

38 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 11/27/2015

Transmission has been slipping . I heard of a recall on this problem and I called Nissan and was told I missed extended warranty buy 8 days ,they admitted that they did have problems with this vehicles transmission. But refuse to do anything about it, also very hard to put gas in,.

39 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/07/2015

Nissan service bulletin ntb07-069b check engine light on, resulting in me running out of gas in traffic, the last time inches away from causing an accident as the truck completely died without warning while I was in motion on a major highway. Contacted Nissan and they told me my truck was not affected by this recall, yet here I am with the same problem as everybody else with only 60,000 miles on a 2006 vehicle. They are refusing to help resolve the situation and insist I pay to have them replace a part and pay labor to replace such part. I have taken very good care of this vehicle including keeping it low miles. There is no reason a "normal" fsu should fail after 60000 miles. I am now unable to renew my registration causing me and my family to drive around illegally as this is our only transportation. We are unable to afford the ridiculous cost Nissan has quoted us and don't feel we should have to pay to fix an obvious faulty part. They should be held responsible for this part failing and possibly causing serious injury to my family or another family.

40 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

Fuel level malfunction causing false reading of fuel in the vehicle.

41 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/06/2015

My coolant system has leaked into my transmission system causing malfunction of both. This causes my car to hesitate when accelerating and will eventually cause the transmission to give out completely while in motion. This appears to be a common problem that Nissan is aware of and has not adequately addressed.

42 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

Nissan knows about this issue in fact it involves multiple years and models. The radiator cracks and leaks into the transmission ruining both. They entered into a settlement agreement but set the bar so high that it is impossible to meet. This car technically has low mileage for a 10 year old vehicle yet misses the top parameter by 16,000 miles. This is unacceptable .

43 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/31/2015

Our vehicle began to no longer show that we had any fuel on the gas gauge. I saw that 2006 Nissan Xterras had a recall on the fuel level sending unit. We had the repairs done at a Nissan dealership, but were informed that our VIN number would not be covered. The corporate headquarters said we had no recourse because this was a warranty issue even though their website refers to it as a recall. Is there anything I can do? please help!.

44 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/24/2015

Cracked radiator hose caused coolant to mix with transmission fluid thereby ruining the transmission. Cost included radiator and transmission (used) replacement. This issue would have been proactively repaired / replaced the radiator prior to the issue occurring had Nissan notified me of it. Instead, it cost an extra $3500 to replace both radiator and transmission. A totally preventable situation, never mind the potentially hazardous situation had the transmission failed at highway speeds. No excuse for Nissan.

45 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/28/2015

My Nissan has the defect that brought a lawsuit against Nissan motor for a failure in the oil cooler that caused my transmission and radiator to be completely rebuilt/replaced because coolant had leaked into my transmission. I ended up with a bill for $3941. 46, and now, I can't even file a reimbursement form or get a hold of any one at Nissan to help because all 3 numbers listed in letters and paperwork are no longer in service.

46 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/28/2015

These vehicles seem to have a safety flaw. When depressing the brake pedal the amount of travel is such that it is a common occurrence to depress the gas pedal at the same time causing the car to lurch forward. I have had two different Nissan dealers (henderson, nevada and boise, idaho) inspect my vehicle and was told in both cases there is nothing that can be done. . . Its the way the automobile was manufactured. During my last dealer inspection in boise, idaho the mechanic brought a new 2015 model into the garage and put the two cars side by side. The difference in brake pedal travel was approximately 1/8 of an inch, so the problem has evidently never been addressed by the manufacturer. Today, my vehicle lurched forward when braking because the gas pedal was depressed while braking. It is paramount that one's foot is centered on the brake pedal; if your foot is off to the right side just a little, the gas pedal will be depressed while braking causing an unsafe situation. I have had many very close calls because of this issue.

47 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/20/2015

Gauge said I had gas ran out in bumper to bumper 75-80 mile an hour traffic narrowly missed being crushed by semi tractor trailer.

48 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

I was on my way back from the the mall when I heard my fan/belt start to squeal. Not thinking anything of it I keeped on driving next thing I know I'm pressing harder on my gas peddle just to go faster. My rpms where going to high and I was only going 65. I was on the high when this happen so I didn't notice till I had to go up a bridge and that's when I really notice my engine struggling to get power, it sounded like it was doing a lot when it really wasn't. I knew I had to go to the machanic to get it looked at they told me it was a lose bolt. Next thing ik I'm driving home and my car was doing the same thing again but this time it wasn't going into gear in drive, so I tried 3 gear still nothing so I went to 2 and it stuck. I parked it on a side street in ocean city and called trip a and had it towed to Nissan of atlantic city to see what was wrong. Couple days later they called and told me my raidiator fluid leaked into my transmission and messed all the gears up. After hearing that I looked up that problem on Xterras apparently this is a pretty common accurance on them. I was not notified of such problems by the dealer and apparently Nissan want renberrse me so I'm out 7,500 because my Nissan is sitting in my back yard.

49 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/14/2015

When it turned cold Jan/Feb 2105 our daughter told us the heat was not working. But she knew we did not have the money to repair so we did not worry about it. We own a 2000 chevy truck & the heat has not worked for years & we just live with it. So we never thought about the radiator/coolant being the problem. Then something major happened-our daughter was driving home from auburn al to our home in opelika al & she called us saying the car would not go over 25-30 mph. We were out of town, it was 10 pm at night so we told her to keep driving and get home to a safe place (her life was more important than stopping on the side of the road--a young lady all by herself) she got home, parked it & when we returned home we took it to a local repair shop that we trust. He called us the next day & said I have devastating news. He told us about the service report put out on Nissan Xterras in regard to the major, well known to Nissan problem of when the coolant/radiator cracks because of a faulty when in manufacturing radiator is put in it is a known by Nissan bad one. It cracks & leaks into the transmission in which the coolant mixes with the transmission fluid & creates a toxic hell stew that destroys the transmission. He said your car is worth $5,000 but the cost to repair is $7,000. I called Nissan they told me I had to take it to a Nissan dealer for their diagnosis and the diagnosis is the same. My husband is very, very sick and we have huge medical, pharmacy, hospital bills and I have had breast cancer with chemo that has caused an autoimmune disorder (almost lost my left eye) and our 15 year-old daughter goes to children's hospital in birmingham al for rheumatoid arthritis. We thought we were buying a very dependable car for $14,000 only 3 1/2 years ago and now it is 4500 pounds of junk metal. If Nissan had told us about the problem, we could have been proactive.

50 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

Transmission going out due to a problem that many others seem to be having as well. See link below for more information regarding coolant leaking into the transmission. . Read more...

51 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 01/02/2015

Upon turning a corner after coming to a complete stop at a stop sign in my neighborhood, I went to accelerate and match the speed of oncoming traffic. The gear failed to shift appropriately (transmission) and giving the car gas simply revved the engine. Luckily the approaching car responded well and slowed to avoid a rear collision while I eased off the pedal and then gently accelerated again to my local mechanic. Upon his examination of my 2006 Xterra, he determined that the transmission fluid and coolant were mixing and destroying both my radiator and transmission. A quick search on the internet revealed that this dangerous problem is common among Nissan owners! when I purchased the vehicle from smithtown Nissan in 2010 and subsequently, there was absolutely no notification or recall regarding this dangerous hazard. This is unacceptable and life-threatening. There settlement of a class action lawsuit is insufficient (a $2500 - $3k) CO-pay to replace the transmission and potentially have the same defect again! my wife and kids rely on my car every day and I feel fortunate that I did not wait any longer to have the car examined, but I am extremely disturbed by Nissan's negligence.

52 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 12/08/2014

It has same problems as all the 02-08 Xterras but you wont issue recalls on fuel sensor, radiator leaking into tranny, air bag sensors, control arm. Thanks for letting loyal Nissan owners down!!!!.

53 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

This is one of the many transmission issues with 2007 Xterras where the coolant leaks into the transmission and destroys it. The repair cost is 8500 dollars if the 100000 mile extended warranty has been passed. I contacted Nissan and they told me that this is my responsibility despite the hundred of complaints regarding the exact same issue. When driving at any speed, when the Xterra changes gears there is a rough vibration that keeps getting worse the longer it goes for. Had I not learned about this on my own accord this could have resulted in a very bad accident.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/11/2014

Check engine light came on so I took it to an autozone to have the code read. Po463, fuel sending unit. Did some research, called Nissan corporate to inform them of the issue and see if I was eligible for extended warranty (wasn't covered). Nissan corporate informed me that I was eligible for ecm relay replacement at no cost at a dealership, so I took the car to a dealership that quoted me lowest on the fuel sensor repair. They asked if I had other issues and I told them that my engine sometimes sounded like an rc car. They offered to look into it, called this afternoon after completing work on sensor and ecm relay to inform me that my timing chains were shot and in need of immediate replacement. Did some more research and found this is a frequent issue in Nissan cars, decided to file a report.

55 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

When driving the car at 40mph/around 1000rpms the vehicle began vibrating at the back end. Upon acceleration, the vibration ceased. This behavior became consistent. A mechanic independent from Nissan found that the transmission and radiator must be replaced per his conversation with the local Nissan dealership. Also advising independent mechanic that the dealership admits to having a floor full of transmissions that need repair. I investigated the class action suit filed in 2010 and already settled, but had no knowldege of this prior as Nissan did not alert me to the persistent problem since 2005 I should expect my car to develop.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

Purchased my '05 Nissan Xterra in the spring of 2012 with about 160,000 miles. For the past 2 months I had minor issues like shuddering/vibrations randomly when I accelerated and the heat not working when I was at a complete stop. It was not until the other day when I was at a complete stop and my car would not accelerate properely that I knew I had a problem with the transmission. I took my Xterra to 3 different mechanics and each one explained to me that I would need a completely new transmission and from there they would see if I in fact needed to change the radiator (which they were positive was the original issue due to similar issues with other Nissan SUV owners). The repairs will cost me well over $4,000 and unfortunately as a college student, there is no way I can afford to repair the transmission and radiator. What was appalling to me was when I researched the issue online. There are hundreds upon hundreds of complaints online on various websites about this issue and Nissan has yet to issue a recall. The extended warranty excluded many people and put many more at an unfair disadvantage. I personally bought my Nissan, because of their reputation, but the fact that they will not come to the aid of their consumers speaks volumes of this company.

57 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 06/28/2014

We were driving on vacation and the car stopped. It started back up and then after a couple of miles stopped again. We were stranded and didn't get home for three days. I have take codes off the engine and it showed a 0462 code. Went back to get Xterra with a car dolly and dolly broke and car came undone. This unfortunate incident was a direct result of a bad sending unit.

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

Check engine light on, took car to local shop to read codes, showed fuel sensor issue. Gas gauge is all over the place. It shows full when empty, empty when full, and some in between. This appears to be a common issue, my VIN # shows no recalls or none that are covered over 72k miles?? what a disappointment in Nissan! would hate to run out of gas in -29 degrees with the kids and freeze trying to get home but I guess that is not a safety issue and "not worth mentioning".

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 05/02/2014

After the car warms up it will stall while driving and when coming to a stop to idle. Sometimes it will not start immediately after stalling. This is a safety hazard and could cause an accident. We have also had multiple problems with the alignment due to the wheel bearings.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/19/2014

The contact owns a 2002 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 04v230000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was 200,000.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 04/03/2014

Engine light came on . Took it to auto zone which yield a code referring to the fuel sensing unit.

62 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/30/2014

While on a business trip away from home noticed the heater stopped blowing warm air. A few minutes later engine temperature spiked but then returned to normal. 50 miles later heater started working again. Took the car to a local mechanic and discovered transmission cooler within the radiator had failed, allowing the radiator coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. Paid for the replacement of the radiator/transmission cooler, system flush. Had the system flushed again 1 week after radiator replacement. Transmission now acting erratically, particular when shifting between 3rd and 4th gear. Initial assessments by mechanic suggests transmission and transmission computer require replacement. Cost of replacement exceeds the value of car even though the rest of the car is in excellent condition.

63 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

There is a manufacturer's defect with the radiator in which it cracks and leaks fluid into the transmission, which then destroys the transmission. When we called Nissan to ask if they were going to stand by their product, they told us there was nothing they could do for us.

64 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

I have a 2006 Nissan Xterra. I have a problem with the fuel indicator. It drops down to "e" when the vehicle idles for more than a few minutes.

65 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/13/2014

Transmission failure in my 07 Nissan Xterra. A complete loss of motive power and needed to be towed. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer. Was told that this is a huge problem with these vehicles and the Nissan corporation is well aware of this problem.

66 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 02/09/2014

I received a warranty notification letter around 2011 , stating that Nissan was providing the highest levels of product quality and customer satisfaction. This letter stated that Nissan was extending the warranty for the fuel sending sensor that can malfunction and incorrectly give a wrong reading on the fuel level. They where extending the new vehicle limited warranty for 36 months/ 36,000 miles to 72 months 72,000 miles. So I put the sticker and letter in my warranty booklet. I called the Nissan dealership and gave them my VIN number and they stated that my vehicle was not part of the "campaign recall" and you dont need to do anything further. So it is now 2014, 3 years later and what happens . . . . . . . . The fuel sending sensor is broken, I spoke to the dealer again on 2-17-2014, and again they stated to me that my VIN number was not part of the campaign recall and when I showed them my letter , they stated to me that yes it was under warranty at the time of receiving the letter. . . . . But they said to me in 2011 that no need if you dont have a problem your vehicle doesnt need to have this replaced . . . . . . . So I got told wrong twice once when you get the letter unless it is broken then they wont fix it. . . . . And now that it is broken my VIN number is not part of the "campaign recall" sad that Nissan does this . . . . . They should honor this recall for all VIN numbers that show this problem. I bought this vehicle new from the dealer and will not give out 600. 00 for them to replace an 80. 00 part. I wish more people complain so this goes to recall. Without fixing this you cannot pass inspection for your car. At the time of receiving the letter they should have fixed it but it wasnt broken. 3 years later they wont fix it my VIN is not part of campaign recall?????.

67 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

My radiator went out in the starbucks drive-thru. I had it towed to a shop & was told it is a known design flaw by Nissan where the fluids are mixing & the only thing I can do now is replace the radiator & "hope" the fluids did not go into the transmission. Got the new radiator & had a trans flush 3 times & paid about $1800. It is now a month later & my service engine light is on. Today, I am told I need a new transmission which will cost $3800. This is our only car. We do not have the funds to pay for a new transmission. For safety reasons, we urge you to please issue a recall on this poor design by Nissan where the fluids are mixing & causing safety concerns to the consumers.

68 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

Check engine light comes on and the trouble shooting number is p0463. Which I understand Nissan automobiles have a lot of trouble with this situation. I would like to informed when they are having a recall to repair this problem.

69 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Nissan Xterra

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

I was informed by the dealership service department that radiator fluid had contaminated transmission fluid in my 2005 Nissan Xterra. This defect in the radiator was known to occur in high mileage vehicles such as mine and was known to Nissan as they extended a service warranty to 100,000 miles. Unfortunately my vehicle's mileage is over the extended warranty and I am now responsible for the cost of the repairs. This is a huge safety issue as the transmission plays a vital role in the ability for the vehicle to accelerate into and across traffic on busy highways and roads. The inability to do so properly with a defective transmission may lead to accidents. Not to mention that the contaminated radiator coolant may not accomplish the intended goal of cooling engine components leading to over heating and engine dysfunction. I feel strongly that Nissan new about the defect and did not take appropriate action to notify consumers to have the radiators replaced prior to having complications from the defective parts.
