11 Ignition problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 11/24/2010

The turn signals on my 02 Alero do not always work. They will come on and off on random occasions and nothing could be done to fix it. Also the car security system does not always allow the car to start. When the engine doesn't start I have to stick the key in the ignition for 10 minutes until the security light stops flashing then it will start. I had the try to fix it and the only solution they think might work (but not sure) is to turn off the security system completely.

12 Ignition problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

I have a 2000 Alero that is having a starting problem due to the stock security system. It has recently came up out of no where, and prevents me from getting to work, or anywhere else I need. I have replaced the passlock cylinder in the ignition, fuel pump and filter, but still when I turn the car to acc or on, the fuel pump does not come on, but the security light does. I was told the security system shuts off power to the fuel pump. This is a big problem because it happens multiple times a week, to the point I'm afraid to turn my car off anywhere I go. I don't mind replacing the parts, I just need to know how, and no one will inform me.

13 Ignition problem of the 2003 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 01/16/2009

Came out after work to start my car and turned the key and got nothing. Had the car towed before I was told it was due to the security system in this model. After researching the internet and a call to the dealer where I purchased the car I was told to leave the car in the on position for 10-15 minutes then turn it off and start the car. Which worked but at sub zero temps. This is not a very acceptable solution. And as this happens at least once a day now it is not what I paid for. The windshield has been removed and reinstalled bcs. I was told it leaked and was causing the problem and when that didn't solve it the ignition was replaced twice and to no avail it still doesn't start as it should.

14 Ignition problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 09/05/2008

In September 2008 I was doing some errands and it was fine at one place that I had stopped at well I had stopped to go grocery shopping came out and went to put my key in the ignition and nothing would happened, it wouldn't even turn over. Called my dad, he came out to look at it everything appeared to be fine due to previous when I first bought the car there was misfire situation that had to be fixed. I had it towed to the dealer. The next morning after they hooked it up to the diagnostic test come to find out it was my pass lock system. Which, is where your computer doesn't read your key and stops sending fuel to the engine. So, to have it replaced with labor and all cost me about 600. 00 to get it fixed. They had to purchase a new pass lock system and install it in my car.

15 Ignition problem of the 2004 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 07/16/2008

The key would not turn and had to fiddle with it to work, so I took it to a dealer and had the ignition key cylinder changed along with the key(?). Cost was over $500. 00 with mileage at 60,981. Just past warranty. This is ridiculous and should never happen. I feel I should be compensated for some of this at this mileage.

16 Ignition problem of the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 06/30/2008

I purchased a 2002 v-6 Oldsmobile Alero sedan in Aug 2006 at 80,000 miles and at 85,000 miles in sept 2006 already had my first repair on the ignition passlock system. The ignition lock cylinder was supposed to be replaced but in June of 2008 a failure occurred again with the ignition lock cylinder. I contacted superior Chevrolet mon July 21st in person and requested reimbursement for my repair that occurred at perry Chevrolet in columbia, mo. The service manager told me that I was out of the warranty limits but this was "an uncommon problem for the ignition lock cylinder to be replaced twice within 45,000 miles. " his name was bernie smith. I then contacted gm customer service agent daniel churchill the same day 7/21/08. I was told I would be contacted between 11:30a and 3:30p on wed July 23rd 2008 but ws contacted at 4:30p with the news that the service advisor jerry at superior Chevrolet said this problem was "common for the mileage and age of the vehicle. " I have yet to be reimbursed or given a straight answer of why the part failed.

18 Ignition problem of the 2003 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 10/10/2006

Purchased 2003 Alero in 2004, 2nd one (I loved the first one), with 32k miles. Vinyl over passenger airbag was peeling - dealer fixed at no cost - now in 2010 it peeled off completely. At 39k had to replace the ignition cylinder. One of the front drivers side window bracket broke - waiting for the window to fall into the door. At about 50k the turn signal clicking starting without using the signals & is still do it today. I have not tried to fix it because I have read so many thing on the internet about cost & that it was recalled on older Alero models. It has finally gotten to the point that the signals only work part time and I have to turn on the hazards to get the turn signal to work - accident causing I think so. The plastic around the gear shift that lights up at night now gets hot enough to hurt if touched. I am very disappointed that gm won't help so many people that have put money and faith in their product. I think gm just doesn't want to deal with the olds products. If it was a problem then and there are so many complaints now then it must still be a problem. I personally will not recommend a gm vehicle to anyone and will be going back to Ford.

19 Ignition problem of the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 05/04/2006

The failure is general motors passlock theft deterent system. My car does not start on numerous occations because of this problem that should be recalled. My car has been in a general motors repair shop five times with this problem and it still occurs. It has left me stranded, late for school, late for work, among other things because it will not start for 10 minutes until it resets. It is a safety issue and is embarrrassing when you cant move your car for 10 minutes after refueling at a gas station causing other people to get angry.

21 Ignition problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 04/13/2005

Today, 13 Apr 05, while driving my wife's car to and from work, her 2000 Alero shut down at high speeds 65 to 70 mph. I was able to pull it off the side of the road each time, but power steering and brakes were hard to use. One of these times almost caused an accident. After pulling to the side of the road, I was able to turn off the ignition and restart the vehicle. There seems to be a major electrical problem. I have taken the vehicle in for the intermittent signals about 3 months ago and these are not working now either, I will be taking the vehicle back in to fix.

22 Ignition problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 10/11/2003

I have a 2000 Alero and it fails to start every once in a while. The problem seems to be coming from the ignition fuse but even after changing the fuse it would still not start. I as well as my mechanic are baffled. The latest was last weekend but it has happened about 6 times. The weather has nothing to do with it as well as the amount of driving done or not done. It seems to be a random occurrence.

26 Ignition problem of the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 03/06/2003

This complaint is similar to complaint numbers 563702, 712756, 724936. Late last year, I had to have the key lock cylinder and security chip in the ignition/key system replaced to the tune of several hundred dollars (problem with fidelity warranty service) and now the key cylinder which was reported to have been replaced was apparently not replaced. Now I can't start my car with the key. The key will not turn, like putting your car key in another car. It wouldn't turn the lock. I have noticed several times when I couldn't turn the car off all the way but the key would come out. I have also found the same problem in other gm cars that I use professionally. The car key comes out from time to time when the car is running, or when the car isn't turned all the way off. . . . It's not a constant problem but it is a problem.

27 Ignition problem of the 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

Failure Date: 02/10/2003

My car refused to start or died while on the fwy on more than one occasion. Everything worked (lights, radio), but the engine wouldn't "turn over. " ck engine light on- tow-truck driver couldn't start. Towed to dealer. Gm service could never figure out the problem- mulitple electrical problems- put through diagnostic tests-computer module replaced and deterrent module needs replacing- car "thinks" its being stolen, so it cuts off the fuel pump. (2)signal lights and emergency signal some times stop working. Dealer always unable to figure out how to permanently fix the defect. Cost between extended warranty and my pocket 13k plus. Finally fed up with gm-the dealer-inability to fix the problems x 1. 5 years traded the car in. Will never by a gm product!.

And found many people with the same problem thats causing me which is that the security light keeps flashing and make the whole vehicle not start, think its locked which I don't understand cause it drives fine for few days and then kaput. This should be a recall or something.
