Both rear brake rotors had hard spots on the inside wear surfaces, leading to premature failure of the pads and poor braking performance. Rotors were obviously defective and the dealer did not even attempt to resurface the rotors. Oldsmobile customer assistance was contacted but denied my claim that they were defective. Both rear rotors had the same failure and appearance, which indicates to me the castings had hard spots in them when they were new.
Every 15ooo miles rotors have to be changed. Dealer told consumer that brake pads are too close to rotors. When water or moisture gets between them it causes rotors to warp excessively.
When vehicle was taken into a brake shop mechanic told consumer that rotors were sanded by manufacturer to the wrong size. Micrometer readings taken over the unworn rim outside of the brake pad wear area showed . 035'' below low machine dimension. Brakes were not serviced prior to this.
Front brake rotors warped at 26,746 miles -- rotors turned. Rotors warped again at 34,363 miles -- replaced. Rotors warped again at 47,835. Contacted dealer and was informed that Oldsmobile had issued a TSB stating, in effect, the "if wheels had been rotated/balanced by 'other than a gm dealership', no further warranty services would be provided on warped rotors. " at 47,835 miles, I had rotors replaced with "after market" rotors at a cost of $368. 00. At 16,000+ miles later, I have experienced no further problems. Supposedly, these "after market rotors" did not contain any composit materials and, therefore, were less likely to warp. The original equipment rotors were part of $230. 00 autobahn package. I do not feel that Oldsmobile is being fair/truthful regarding problems encountered with these rotors.
Vehicle was vibrating. Dealer inspected it & found all 4 of the brake rotors were warped. They were repaired with 29,320 miles on vehicle. Warranty didn't cover repairs, consumer covered the expenses.
The transmission has an intermittent problem that two dealers have tried to fix, then tell me that the condition is normal. The brake rotors have warped, it took three trips to the dealership repair shop to fix the problem. Warranty was charged twice on brake repair when only one repair was done. Defroster function on car was inoperative due to water collecting in ac unit. Ac has moldy smell that has not yet been corrected. Very dissatisfied with dealerships that try to repair car.
Rotors wore prematurely. Yh.
After car sitting, then starting put car in gear there is a popping/clicking in front. I have had new front rack put on, had them check cv joints, and struts. I have taken this car back to the dealer many, many times they can not find the problem. I took a mechanic (not dealer) and he suggested checking the caliper hardware and brakes. I am at my wits end. Now my rotors have the deep groves and was told by dealer the could not locate the problem!!! is this car a lemon?.
Front brake rotors warp every 10,000 miles. Car is equipped with autobahn package (larger front rotors). Rotors were turned at 12,352 then replaced at 22,595 then turned again at 40,000.
While driving at 50-55 mph applied brakes and car started to vibrate. Steering wheel would vibrate when the brakes are applied. Dealer was contacted, and repair work was done. Dealer stated defective and warped rotors.
Brake rotors warp repeatedly. Both dealer & gm refuse to fix the problem once it is out of warranty.
There has been about 10 attempts to have steering problem corrected pump & rack has been replaced and still have a problem rear brakes warped dealer refused to fix would do only front defective pitted rotors under warr. Problems reported when first purch. Car steering is a danger wanted to return car too many repairs and not fixed.
Brakes pulsate due to rotor failure.
Faulty rotors cause pulsing and chatter while stopping, dealer stated that the removal of asbestos from brake material causes failure. Nlm.
Vehicle had a brake problem, rotors warped because they got too hot. When putting foot on brake front end of car shuttered very badly. GMC replaced rotors at 10,000 miles and 20,000 miles; however, problem reoccurred. Took vehicle to dealer. They took off rotors and grinded them smoothly. At 40, 000 miles problem was worse. Heavy duty rotors on 98 olds over heat during normal usage causing rotors to warp and resulting in shuddering of front end when brake is applied.
While driving in cold wet conditions the rotors warped without warning causing the car to violently shudder when attempting to stop, the shudder continues until the rotors are resurfaced or replaced. Nlm.
Rotors have been replaced, dealer states that rotors are bad and brake pads are not even worn enough to change.
Rear brakes have failed, brake shoes are not even making contact with brakes rotos causing a safety hazard. Please provide further information.
