1 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Failure Date: 05/08/2002

Have had ainti-lock brake system automatically shut off, causing the brakes to lock up and release every 5 seconds. It unfortunately does not do it everyday, in order for the dealership to see the problem, I had my rotors replaced in front and turned in the back, this still has not helped the problem. Traction control system no longer works, and now the fan that blows air out of the vents, will work once and awhile. I have been told the bearings are going out in it, which means no heat, and no air. It will cost 264. 00-300. 00 to fix. I have had my car for 4 years, and have had nothing but problems with it.

5 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Failure Date: 07/29/2001

Abs system activision on dry pavment surfice somewhat rough, I travel this route often and the street surfice has not change . It is my opionion that abs activation is due to poor strut performance however based on the "jump or push down on a corner of the vehical and see if it stop in less than one and one-half bounces the unit sill works. It is my opionion that abs is sensitive to shock ware much earlyer then non abs cars. This problem can create longer braking, resulting in accidents and damage. This is not my first not to the NHTSA about this concern but on my 1992 roadmaster had the same problem , even if the shop said the shock were within safity limits with the bounce test the shock change fixed the abs cycles in all conditions that were normal (non ice) thank you for your consideration into this matter of safety bob urmetz.

6 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Failure Date: 12/15/2000

Rear brakes do not perform like they are intended which makes this vehicle unsafe at speeds as slow as 25 mph. When the driver is forced to "slam" on the brakes or make a sudden stop, the driver, as well as the passengers, can feel the rear tires drag/slip and the brakes make a grinding/vibrating noise. Worse yet, the distance that it takes the car to stop it much too long compared to other vehicles in its class with abs. The feeling that the car is not going to stop in time, coupled with the sensation that your rears tires are slipping, is a very scary experience. Both the dealer and Oldsmobile have been notified, and although they acknowledge the problem, they say there is nothing that can be done and that "Oldsmobile's are just designed like that. ".

9 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Failure Date: 06/10/2000

Front brake rotors warped at 26,746 miles -- rotors turned. Rotors warped again at 34,363 miles -- replaced. Rotors warped again at 47,835. Contacted dealer and was informed that Oldsmobile had issued a TSB stating, in effect, the "if wheels had been rotated/balanced by 'other than a gm dealership', no further warranty services would be provided on warped rotors. " at 47,835 miles, I had rotors replaced with "after market" rotors at a cost of $368. 00. At 16,000+ miles later, I have experienced no further problems. Supposedly, these "after market rotors" did not contain any composit materials and, therefore, were less likely to warp. The original equipment rotors were part of $230. 00 autobahn package. I do not feel that Oldsmobile is being fair/truthful regarding problems encountered with these rotors.

26 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue

The rear brakes are insufficiently proportioned to the front causing the front tires to loose traction easily under moderate braking. There is a spongy brake pedal and I have suggested that air in the back lines may be causing this. No action has been taken because they say their tests show the car is within gm guidelines. The problem becomes readily evident when traction conditions are unfavorable with only slight brake pedal pressure the front tires will overcome the available traction available. It is obvious that the rear brakes are barely assisting, if at all. I have 3 other vehicles and in the same conditions, I can't even get the tires to break loose unless I stomp the brakes. But with Intrigue, light pressure causes the front tires to loose traction. Abs functions properly, but would have never come on if all 4 brake were assisting. And in an abs event, no matter how hard or soft I apply the brake, the car's deceleration rate is dramatically reduced. Actually feels like the car is stopping about half as well as before abs activated. These abs events occur all the time. The consistent feeling that the fronts are about to loose traction while the backs are just not contributing is frustrating and life threatening. My wife, brother and I have all had this happen to us while driving this car. I've gone through intersections, into snowdrifts to avoid other vehicles, etc. While the cars next to me can stop with no fuss. Another item that shows more evidence to this is, the front rotors were turned twice for warpage and replaced, then turned again for warpage, all under 36000 miles. Also the back tires look like they're still new. Last week, during a nice heavy rain, with abs disabled (removal of a fuse), I showed the mechanic that I could not make the back brakes lock the wheels. This was with both feet mashing on the brake. This is while the fronts were skidding all the way. Please help! abs isn't going to save me, but good brakes sure would help. *a.
