Head gasket failure at 42,000 miles.

The interior lights did not come on, the dash board lights flickered, the driver's window stopped working, and there was a crunchy noise coming from the steering column, it was determined the power steering lines leaked, the front struts and suspension were replaced, at times the horn did not work, and later the consumer received a recall notice regarding the clock spring assembly needed to be replaced. This is a courtesy copy to NHTSA (cc) the letter is addressed to daimler Chrysler. Also the valve cover gaskets were replaced.

Head gasket failure under normal driving conditions, engine has never overheated.

Headgasket started leaking at 48951 miles in April 2000. Head gasket was replaced on January 4, 2001. Company admitted that they had a problem with head gaskets on this model.

Head gasket failed on this well maintained vehicle with less than 50,000 miles. Many other Chrysler vehicles with the same engine and similiar engines have experienced the same problems.

The head gasket failed, the consumer request reimbursement due to the low mileage and the possibilty of a factory defect as this problem should not occur on vehicles with less than 200,000 miles. Nlm.

Engine head gasket failed 2 months out of warranty. No help from dealer. $12oo repair bill for part that should have lasted 100,000 miles!.

Latent defect (casting void) present at delivery, discovered by independent mechanic at 45,209 miles on 03/08/2002 during routine service and inspection. No safety defect listed. There was an oil leak at the left rear corner of the head gasket and the gasket was replaced. The consumer believed the cylinder head was defective.

The consumer has experience the following: noise coming from the rear brakes, noise when starting the engine/uneven idle, the check engine light had come on/burned #5 exhaust valve-removed head/replaced valve/reassembled engine, the engine is knocking/internal rod knocking-engine had an oil leak/replaced gasket & the rear main seal is leaking (the vehicle is going thru 2-3 quarts per month), and when engaging in gear, the engine moves hard. Scc.
