3 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2000 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 06/25/2011

Over the past 5 years - since the replacement my serpentine belt on my 2000 Chrysler Voyager has popped off 4 or 5 times. Since our local dealer is no longer here I had to pay $93. 21 today to have the belt put back. The mechanic checked the belt and tensioner and found both in practically brand new condition and good working order. He could not find a reason why it would come off. Each time it has come off was after a rain. In researching this problem online I found that it has happened a lot to many others also. My former dealer's mechanics also could not explain why this occurs. This is a dangerous situation that needs a quick and permanent solution since all the power controls such as steering are managed by this one belt. Once out you no longer have any power assisted steering. Updated 06/30/11 updated 07/01/11.

17 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1998 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

: the contact stated there were several problems with the vehicle that would be considered a manufacturer defect. The first component of concern was the belt tensioner which had to be replaced by the dealer because it was observed to be dismantled. The second component was identified when the vehicle was taken in for a regular oil change. The independent mechanic determined there was a major leak coming from the pump seal on the transmission. Once the transmission was taken out of the vehicle, a crack was observed in the torque converter. The transmission had to rebuilt because a transmission for replacement could not be found. The dealer determined the transmission problem was due to a pin drop which has been common in vehicles of this year, make and model. The third component was discovered while the contact searched car fax for history on the vehicle; there was a recall on this vehicle for the airbag. When the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the remedy repair, it was not performed because the vehicle exceeded 70,000 miles. The dealer confirmed that the remedy repairs would be issued only if the vehicle incurred the consequences of the recall. The last component of concern was the service engine soon light, which constantly illuminated. When the vehicle was taken to the dealer, they determined there was cylinder misfire. However, the contact expressed that this problem may have been caused by a malfunctioned computer system. After a major tune up to the vehicle the service engine soon light only illuminates intermittently.

I belive that this is a design defect that Chrysler knows but they are not doing anything about it. It is a major safety issue in as much you loose all your control when this belts slips.

20 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 03/24/2005

Engine became very hot when drove accidentally through a puddle after a large rain. Had to replace the serpentine belt, was told by mechanic that this happens alot to this particular vehicle because of the one belt controlling so many pulleys/whatevers in the van. Shortly there after the engine had clicking noises & was told the lifters had collasped. The van had plenty of oil & water, all filters were updated too. The van developed an oil and transmission fluid leak. We treated this van like a family member- with loving care. Driving on to see family on easter weekend, our van suddenly lost power. We were stranded. The mechanic told us our engine had seized & didn't understand why since we had plenty of oil. The van is too young & has minimal miles on it to have had this happen!.

27 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1998 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 12/22/2003

1998 Plymouth Voyager-serpentine belt comes off pulleys when run in wet conditions. This has occured three times in the past month. After first two times, the belt was simply put back in place by dealer stating this is a common occurence with this vehicle. On the last occurence, dealer informed me of TSB 07-01-99 dealing with the serpentine belt and replacing a bracket that keeps the belt in alignment. It will cost approximately $100. 00 to replace. This obvious defect has serious consequences especially since the belt controls power steering and cooling of the vehicle. An obvious loss of steering control at high speeds can have disastrous consequences. Nhtsa should require Plymouth to retrofit all of these vehicles.

The contact owns a 1996 Plymouth Voyager. Since November of 2003, the transmission has been replaced three different times. After purchasing a brand new transmission, it failed again the very same day and needed to be replaced again. The contact has had the top half of the engine rebuilt. The vehicle is stuck in drive and will not hold fluid. The front windshield wipers activate without a power surge in the vehicle. In addition, the rear bolts keep coming out of the shocks. The contact has taken the vehicle to have the bolts tightened three or four times. The engine is ticking and smoking. The serpentine belt slips off if it gets even slightly wet from snow or rain. The check engine light sporadically flashes on and off or constantly remains illuminated. The air conditioner was completely serviced; however, it cannot be used because of the transmission failure. The current mileage was 155,000 and failure mileage was 116,250. Update 09/10/08 updated 09/15/08.

31 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1996 Plymouth Voyager

Failure Date: 08/22/2003

I own a 1996 Plymouth Voyager and on this min van the wipers act very erratic. They work when they want. Sometimes they won't shut off and other times they will not come on at all or stop right in the middle of your view. I also have an issue with the serpentine belts popping off the drive line leaving you with no power steering or power brakes and completely disables the vehicle. I also experience issues with the rear shocks. The bolts come loose and detaches the rear shick from the van leaving it quite uncontrollable while driving. All 3 issues happens on many occasions. All 4 of these defects make this van very dangerous to drive or travel with. Currently my van is sitting in my drive with a bad transmission. I have owned the van for 5 years now and in 5 years I have blown 3 transmissions.
