Vehicle not wanting to switch gears. It goes very slow until finally it switches over. The oil was leaking out of the van. The oil leak was repaired. As for the transmission, it all started off when it would slow by itself. Then it gradually got worse. On 02-12-03 I had taken it in to get checked for a oil leak and the problem with the gears not shifting. I was told I needed transmission service, to replace the valve cover gasket, and to replace the transmission output shaft seal. I did the repair that was supposed to fix the problem but of course it didn't. I took it in to the dealer and they found nothing wrong with the gears. But said a fuel injection cleaning, throttle body cleaning, and a tune up would fix the problem. This was done on March 26, 2003. They replaced the throttle body gasket and spark plugs. They did find a leak in the head gasket. They had to replace cylinder head gasket, water pump and timing belt. In November of 2000 the front pump seal was leaking, pan gasket leaking, side cover leaking, differential cover leaking, and rear main oil seal leaking. They removed the transaxle, removed and replaced the rear main seal. A few months ago the engine light started coming on when gears wouldn't shift. And it got worse everyday. Now the engine light is on all the time. I took it into aamco on 04-23-2004 to get it checked out. They said it wasn't safe to drive so they had to tow it to their station. It passed all the equipment testing and was told it may just be the spark plugs. So I replaced the spark plugs that day. It ran well for a little while. Then it started again. I had to stop driving my vehicle because it is a potential danger to my family. It would go very very slow when I was trying to cross the road. And with on coming vehicles on both sides we could easily get into a major collision. I have tried to talk to the Chrysler but they refused to help me. And at this point I still don't know what is wrong with it.
I had to replace 5 serpentine belts and 2 fan belts in the past 2 years, along with the pulleys twice. The alignment was checked to. But for some
reason it keeps happening. I call a dealership where I bought the vehicle and they said no recall on this year but on the 1995, I told them that my car was made oct. 1995. I didn't have work done at the dealer since I couldn't get time off from work. So I used a shop near my job. The van is making the same noise again that it makes before the belt fails, a chripping and squeal.

Waterpump replaced 7 times. Four by dealer 3 by my mechanic. Tensioner twice. Dealer has not said that this is a common problem.
My Plymouth Voyager was pouring oil profusely. Upon taking it to a dealership service dept. , I discovered I had to replace the head gasket, cam seals, and exhaust manifold, just 1900k out of my extended warranty. 3 days later a knocking noise was heard, upon taking back to dealership they said it was the timing belt, pulley, and tensioner this time. Upon questioning them whether this malfunction could have been the result of their previous work, they responded they did not have to touch these parts in the previous repair. I in turn called an independent garage who confirmed for me that these parts in fact had to be removed. Due to my mistrust of this dealership I took this second problem to the independent garage. They informed me of a problem with the Plymouth neon head gasket failure, and that I had the same engine in my Plymouth Voyager, only difference was mine has a metal plate and the neon's have a plastic plate on top. I looked this problem up, and it is huge for the Plymouth neons, so I called Chrysler to request some assistance, and currently have been turned down. Since this is one and the same engine, and since chryler extended the warranty up to 5 years/1000,000km, I feel they should at least try to assist a loyal customer of their products. The repair bill for just the replacement of head gasket, cam seals, and manifold totaled $1002. 19 with labor included. This was ridiculous, and way too costly.
Belt that hook motor to engine keeps coming off. Took vehicle to dealer, and had replaced belt. But, problem still exists.
Tensioner snaps off while driving and vehicle loses power steering and belts. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated this was a difficult part to check. Consumer stated that serpentine belt and/or tensioner have failed repeatedly, this is the 3rd failure of this system in less than 3 years.
The belt tensioner failed, there was a recall on the clock spring which had broken, the transaxle pan side converter and the steering pump had rusted.
Vehicle was going 10-15mph around a corner when serpintine belt broke, and consumer lost slight control of vehicle. Dealer didn't have an explanation for belt breaking. Consumer went to an independent mechanic for service. Belt tensioner broke and belt slipped off. Belt did not break. Consumer almost lost control of vehicle.
Serpentine belt came off the pulley causing over heating and loss of power steering causing loss of control, third time in three year.
Tensioner & serpentine belt replaced 3 times so far and it still is not working correctly. The transmission failed on us while I was driving with my kids but no accident occurred.
Ibought the car in feburaury. I brought it back in 3 days with the the van making a noise in it they replaced the serpentene belt. I no longe herd the noise for a little while. When I bought it I was told they would fix the a/c I would have to bring it back in to fix it. I brought it back and they said it was fixed nd it only worked for the drive half way home. I then brought it back for four days while theytook aparrt the dash board and replaced the evaporator. I checked to see if the a/c worked and it did but I turned off due to little gas in the tank. The next time I used it was in April to go to the beach wth friends. It worked going up there and then on the way back it was not working and my van over heated. I then brought it to them and asked them to look at it. They then rigged a fuse to the clutch to keep the fan on at all times so it would not over heat. I felt that they were going to charge me fr it to be repaired for this time it was after the 30 day warranty so there for I was waiting to see if I could get money together to fix it. I then stated having problems with it over heating so I called them afte another mechaniclooked at it and said it was a fire waiting tohappen and things were not put in correctly, he even told them and thy told him to tell me to make an appt. So I called and they told me they could not get it until wed. I explained I had to go out of town and that it was a fire hazard. I then asked if I could bring it in to have him look att it an he said no it would be wed. I tried to have them lok and see if they could come up with a game plan. I then called them yesteday and he said I refusedto bring it inand that is not te case. I told him I was going to bring it to you and e said go a head and then hung up on me. I then called back talked to the owner and he listened temporarly until I told him I used the a/c once he then said I was being dishonest and then at that point I told him he has no right calling me a lier .
Drive belt tensioner broke while driving on a rural part of I-20 in texas. These can only be replaced at a Dodge dealer. It leaves you in a terrible position in the country at night with no help available.
Oct. 2000 during rainstorm the serpentine belt came off all pulleys, resulting in loss of power steering and overheating. Took to dealer, they replaced tensioner and belt. Jan. 10, 2001 driving in rain again, same thing happened: loss of power steering and overheating. Towed to dealer, again replaced tensioner and belt, other vans in for same problem. What if driving on freeway and/or curving road in rain ? could result in loss of vehicle control and lives ! am now unable to drive vehicle in rain due to obvious design flaw.
Consumer was traveling about 45mph on highway and it was raining. Water on the road, and water splashed up towards the tires that affected the pully, causing belt to come off, and vehicle just shut down. Dealership was aware of problem. The coming off of the belt causes loss of power steering and power brakes.
While driving on a road in the rain; traveling through a small puddle of water causes the belt to slip off the engine; as a result the car looses power and power steering; loss of control of car on road; note: this has happen before at one other time.
The bolt holding tension pulley in place broke off, causing serpentine belt to break followed by loss of power steering , all electrical, and power brakes at speed of 50 mph. Vehicle had to be towed; in addition to replacing damaged parts, have had to replace battery and possibly starter or alternator within 7 days of accident.
Under wet driving conditions the belt came off causing loss of power steering and overheating of the engine. Nlm.
Engine head gasket had failed, causing engine to lose power on the freeway. Also, there was a complete loss of coolant. Vehicle overheated & battery had failed. Timing belt tensioner & timing belt had excessive wear & needed replacing.
Serpentine and tensioner belt are loose. Yh.
Serpentine belt frayed and was replaced twice. The third time the belt snapped while van was traveling on gsp in NJ at 65 mph. Van was towed into service department, where belt and defective (quote from repair order) tensioner were replaced.
Power steering went out when driving through mudd puddles at 40 mph or in car wash. Taken to dealer, belt had come off. Repaired it, but had no answer why it happened. This has happened lots of times. Also, windshield wipers came on while driving, switch has been replaced 5 times. The main belt failed. The water pump failed. The transmission was leaking. The a/c compressor went out burning on freeway.
Serpentine belt keeps breaking and shredding. When this happens there's a hard knocking noise. Took to dealer and it broke again. This had to be repaired 4 times. After last breakage, car to died.
The bolt holding the tension pulley broke causing the serpentine to fail and resulted in damage to the power streeing pump, water pump, gasket and fan sensor. Yh.
Windshield wipers turn on intermittently by themselves, do not turn off properly & often stop in middle of windshield. Engine stalls repeatedly, especially during hot weather or after highway driving. Tension pulley has failed/is failing resulting in belt squaling and premature failure, belt has been replaced twice at owners expense.
Cause of loss of power steering support is accessory/serpentine belt coming off the drive pulleys. Has happened four times within 12 months, about every 2,000 miles. TSB 07-01-99 by Chrysler describes the problem, albeit making wrong assumptions regarding affected models and conditions triggering the incident (snow/moisture) . This is a serious safety problem that should be addressed by NHTSA. Chrysler's responsiveness to my complaints has been zero. My wife and children were lucky that an accident caused by the sudden loss of power steering could be prevented. With an attorney's help, I will start to seek remedy under lemon law protection this week.
The idle pulley bolt broke off and cause the pulley to strike the power steering pulley. The drive belt was lost, causing the steering to become very difficult to handle. The vehicle had been taken in at approximately 33,000 mile for a noise in the engin compartment.
Squeak in the front of the engine, replaced belt, 2 times; tires defective, "cheap" dealer admitted to "bad" tires, 1 flat & 1 wear out <25,000 miles.
Tensioner pulley on serpentine belt system of engine has failed twice since I have owned this vehicle. First failure was at approximately 30,000 miles. Pulley had seized on its bearings, and stopped turning. The failure forced the serpentine belt to run continuously against a non-rotating member of the belt drive train. This failure did not cause the belt to break, however it did cause premature wear on the belt. If the failure had not been detected, the belt would have broken due to fatigue and heat related stress, causing loss of power steering assist, and power brake assist, as well as loss of engine water pump function, and loss of alternator function. Dealer replaced the pulley assembly at approx 30,000 miles. The replacement subsequently failed somewhere prior to reaching 54,000 miles, and failed in the same manner -- it seized on its bearings and stopped turning. Dealer again replaced pulley assembly. Two failures of the same subassembly indicates to me that this particular component has an inherent design flaw. Undetected failure of this part can lead to sudden loss of the serpentine belt which will cause instant loss of power steering assist and power brake assist, either of which can lead to a serious accident.
Belt comes off when driving in wet conditions -- sudden loss of power steering.
Belt tensioner device replaced 5 times.
Complained about noise and excessive belt load from first year onward.
