36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 02/21/2017

Late 2010 to early 2012 Porsche Cayenne vehicles with v8 engines have a manufacturing defect with bolts that hold the camshaft adjusters. The weak bolts in question are made of aluminum and have been experiencing failures where they sheer off, causing catastrophic damage to the engine. If this failure occurs when the vehicle is at speed, a loss of power braking and steering will occur as a result. Porsche is aware of the problem and was forced to recall all the affected vehicles in china by the chinese government, but has so far avoided recalling the affected vehicles in the us. The necessary repairs involve replacing the defective bolts with steel ones. Porsche no longer uses the defective bolts in their v8 engines built after 2012. I believe Porsche will not address this defect properly in us cars unless an investigation is launched with the possibility of a recall. Repair costs per vehicle are estimated at $3500, compared to $30,000 for the cost of a complete replacement engine. There are numerous websites with users explaining the problem and limited remedies. . Read more...

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 01/17/2017

Camshaft adjuster bolts starting to become loose and back out, which is a known manufacturing defect on those cars, can lead to sudden unpredictable loss of steering and braking, and potentially accidents, especially with very heavy and very fast car like this one. Dealer quoted $4000 to fix with new bolts and adjusters. Attached are pictures taken with a borescope from my engine. I am scared to drive it. This should be a recall. Owners should not be paying for this. Also attached is quote from dealer.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 01/16/2017

I was pulling forward on a level city street and turning left from a stop sign. There was a significant amount of shuddering and feeling of a loss of power. This was a significant safety issue due to oncoming traffic. Over a period of several months this had been increasing in severity but the dealer could not identify the problem. I took it to the dealer and was able to repeat the problem for them. They identified the transfer case as the issue. It was replaced. I also had to replace the tires due to the dealers identification that the transfer case had caused differential tread wear damage to a rear tire. As a former military aviator, there is no doubt in my mind that this is a safety issue. Porsche needs to identify what the issues are (design, manufacturing, servicing, etc) and remedy them. Surprisingly, this is a known problem because the service adviser informed me that they keep transfer cases in stock. They retail for $3944, plus the new vent kit (mine does not have it) and then add labor, and tires if they have been damaged. That is a lot of expensive inventory to have on hand if Porsche wants to claim there is not a problem.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

Camshaft adjuster bolts snapped while in operating mode. Being made of aluminum not steel as in previous years caused the engine to stop operating. Porsche USA refused to cooperate citing an out of warranty reason. Vehicle onlu had 84000 miles when this factory defect has effected the engine.

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

Tl-the contact owns a 2016 Porsche Cayenne. The contact stated that while stopped the vehicle will jump or lurch forward 5 to 6 feet while stopped. The vehicle at one time lurched forward and slightly hit her daughter after she had dropped her off. The vehicle was taken to the dealers champion Porsche and Porsche west broward 4641 sw 148th Ave, davie, FL 33331(954) 901-3000. Both told the contact that the issue was normal for the vehicle to lurch forward. The vehicle had the feature where it would shut off and on at a stopped position to conserve gas and would lurch forward whether the engine turned off or on. After the dealer claimed to have fixed the vehicle, and it still would lurch forward but still 2 to 3 feet. The manufacturer was called and filed a report but did nothing else. The failure mileage was 100. Tf.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 08/09/2016

There have been increasing reports of variocam camshaft drive bolt failures on the 2011 Porsche Cayenne v8 engines. When these bolts fail, engine damage occurs, and the engine typically stops running. In the case of the turbo model - this can also result in the loss of braking ability since the brakes are powered off a camshaft. There is also a loss of power steering - meaning you have a 4,500lb vehicle without brakes or steering. Porsche had a limited "workshop campaign" for these vehicles that addressed a certain range of VIN# in the USA. It is wc-22 (I'm attaching a pdf of it. ) the failures are now being reported with increasing frequency in VIN#'s not covered by this workshop campaign. The campaign involves replacing the variocam assembly with one assembled with steel bolts rather than aluminum bolts. Earlier versions of this assembly also used steel bolts, and the failures appear limited to ones where the aluminum bolts were used. . Read more...

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 07/27/2016

2 issues. Like other 2006 Porsche Cayenne's, in normal driving in my neighborhood in 2014 my car started vibrating uncontrollably. Stopped driving and had it towed to the dealer. Turns our the drive train broke at 74,000 miles. Which seems is a systemic problem with all 2006 Cayennes. $2400 to repair. Then last week the coolant water pipes broke draining all the coolant fluid out of the car while it was being driven in normal traffic. Towed to the dealer. I soon learned that there had been 8 class action law suites filed on this problem in I believe 2010 and Porsche set aside $45m without admitting guilt to end the law suit and to fix affected cars; however, you had to have it fixed by the end of 2013. Nobody told me of this problem, especially my dealer where the car sits today as I try to get either the dealer of Porsche of na to support the cost of the fix. So far they are not willing. Cost to repair is $2800. Car has 84 thousand miles. Seems strange that NHTSA since every 2006 Porsche Cayenne has both of these expensive problems. . Read more...

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 03/17/2016

The engine has plastic coolant pipes between the front and back of the engine. They failed and dumped all the coolant out while on the road. Car was disabled and had to be towed. After researching, it's concluded that this is a very common failure in Cayennes with a v8 engine at about 60000 miles. Mine had 61000. This is a safety concern. The car can be disabled at anytime. Also, the repair is very costly, exceeding 3000 usd for parts and labor.

The distributor collector coolant systems including the pipes has failed. However, I have been informed by the Porsche corporate office there are no complaints or recalls on file. Unfortunately, they were unable to provide the number of complaints for this make/model/year. On the date of the incident I was driving the vehicle and the coolant light appeared (no other symptoms), I did not hit a bump, it was all of a sudden when my vehicle began to smoke as if it was on fire.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

I was exiting the highway into a rest area, and at about 30-35mph the car's engine suddenly cut out. All the dashboard warning lights lit up, the power steering failed, and even with the brake to the floor the car would barely slow down. I put the car in park and restarted it and it drove normally. I'm now afraid to drive my brand new car, because if the engine cuts out in the middle of an intersection or turning left against traffic, I could be involved in a very serious crash. This is more than just an inconvenience, it is a very serious safety flaw! if I was making a left turn against traffic and my two year old niece was in her car seat in back, she would be directly impacted by the vehicle due to the fact that the car decided to stop working!.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

While driving, all of the sudden felt a strong coolant smell, slowed down immediately and drove home. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the coupling pipe that inserts into the water distributor was coming out. The glue that held the pipe in place failed and the pipe was 60% out! I stopped in time before the pipe completely blew out and sudden loss of coolant occurred, the pipe was literally finger tight, nothing held it in place anymore. Porsche quotes $3500 to repair!!!! this needs to be a service action clear as day.

The dealer sold the vehicle knowing coolant pipes were not updated. Just had the vehicle serviced in April had to pay for maintenance that should have been done before purchase. Then 1 June the warning light came on "check coolant level low". Then the warning light came on "engine too hot". I was forced to pay for repairs when the mechanic received a bulletin from Porsche about the problem. Contacted Porsche and they stated the dealer brumos Porsche should not have sold the car without updating the coolant pipes. I still had to pay over $2,000 dollars.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 03/03/2009

I purchased my 2008 Porsche Cayenne turbo as a second owner but before the purchase was completed the coolant hose rupture failure occurred. The repair was at a cost well north of $2000 at the motor werks Porsche of barrington. I also have a 2002 Porsche 996 turbo which just recently ruptured the coolant hose. The cost is once again right around two thousand dollars. I'm just fed up that this epoxy failure within the coolant system which has affected so many Porsche owners. I'm very disappointed that this issue is not fixed even in their later models but very happy to find out that maybe something will arise with these complaints.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Porsche Cayenne

Failure Date: 01/30/2009

**uncontrolled acceleration** Cayenne s accelerated uncontrollably while driving. While driving at approx 60 mph, I encountered traffic ahead and took my foot off the accelerator, however the car began accelerating. I tried lifting the pedal with my foot, no luck, applied the brakes and the car slowed, however, when I removed my foot from the brake, the Cayenne continued to accelerate. The cruise control had not been activated and was off. I kept pressing the gas pedal and releasing it at least a dozen times and finally the Cayenne stopped accelerating on its own, only to lose any control to accelerate. I coasted into a parking lot and stopped the car. Turned it off and restarted - I was able to drive, however acceleration was very slow and gear indicator on the dash cluster displayed a black 'd' in an orange square. This is a symbol that does not exist in the owners manual. The car shifted through gears normally. The rapid uncontrolled acceleration repeated itself and I was able to pull into another parking lot, slowing and stopping the car thanksto massive 14" front brakes with 6 piston calipers and 13"+ rear brakes with 4 piston calipers. I turned the car off for a few minutes and restarted. Gear selection indicator appeared normal and I was able to drive off, however acceleration was still veryslow. Drove home with the rapid acceleration repeating itself again and then stopping after a few miles. The only reason this did not cause a crash is the massive braking power of the Cayenne and astute driving. I ran diagnostic software when I made it home and there was an "accelerator module" failure reported. The tail lights, alarm, central locking, and the ability to open the tailgate at all have also failed - "rear lighting control module" failure. So while driving, my tail lights failed, car accelerated uncontrollably and failed to accelerate in a safe normal manner. This is a major safety issue and should be promptly addressed!.
