21 problems related to lose power steering have been reported for the 2007 Saturn ION. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When parking my car at a very low speed, my car suddenly lost power steering which made it very difficult to turn the steering wheel. Luckily, I was able to park my car.
Car was parked tried to start would not start with jump. Had towed determined problem with starter. Fixed overnight drove off lot then lost power steering same night just avoided accident. Found out recalls on both total of 8 on this vehicle. Only had since 8/1/2014 never advised of any recalls on vehicle and mccafferty Ford in langhorne,PA did not offer to assist advised its not their responsibility to check recalls. Car can be driven 10-15mins then steering locks up. Have to wait for car to cool down then steering comes back, 10-15 mins same problem. There is also recalls related to air bags.
I lost power steering while driving on local roads (this happened 4 times between mid-November and early December) I was barely able to control the car to get it off the road, shut it down and restart it - at which time the power steering was working. It would then go out again as noted and the power steering message came on. At first I thought there was some water damage as the first time it happened was right after a car wash so I figured it would dry out and be all right. It seemed that way until it recurred again. I then brought it in to wallace Chevrolet in stuart FL for repair. I was quite surprised to learn that this repair was at no charge. My car is 7 years old but the power steering motor control module was replaced at n/c part 19257875. It appears the company knew of the problem and had a program for it but did not notify owners. Frankly I could have been killed or killed someone else if this had happened when I was driving on I-95. It would have been nearly impossible to steer off the highway at those speeds and no power steering. It still frightens me when I think about this. My car is also involved in the ignition switch recall.
Had just pulled out of driveway when power steering indicator chimed and I lost power steering. Pulled over and turned vehicle off. When I turned it back on, car functioned normally and I was able to proceed to my destination. Are there any recalls for this problem as I have read many complaints on your site?.
I was driving down the street and lost my power steering capabilities. I pulled into a les schwab service center to have them see if I was out of power steering fluid. Learned that they were not able to ascertain that. When I turned my car back on, the power steering worked. I don't know why it stopped, but since my car is in the recall for the ignition, I would also like this problem looked at. How can I make sure that this issue is looked at too?.
Lost power steering at 40 mph, car chimed & pwr str appeared on dash display. Filled up gas tank and steering worked. Got on highway and lost steering at 65mph. Shut off car at destination and steering was ok all the way home. There is no way my wife or daughter (possibly with my 2 grandsons) could steer the car at any speed without power steering.
The power steering light has come on several times in my vehicle. It then loses power steering. If I turn the car off and back on it works again. I have called around and been told the part in my car is the same part that was recalled in the chevy cobalt.
Power steering light went on and lost power steering. Once vehicle was shut off and turned back on, problem resolved. Next time I was driving, I lost power steering again while I was driving.
While driving on the highway I lost all power steering without any warning . Comes back after car is shut off but randomly goes out without warning .
On 9 March 2012, at approximately 0900 hours while traveling on the interstate, my 2007 Saturn Ion displayed the warning message/error code "pwr str" and immediately lost power steering assist. I was forced to reduce speed and, using all my upper body strength to wrench the steering wheel to the right, pulled the car to the breakdown lane on the right side of the road. This was extremely difficult without power steering. I turned the car off, read through my owner's manual, and restarted the vehicle. It ran without issue for approximately 10 miles before the code again appeared and I again lost power steering. This situation has rapidly progressed to a nightmare; the car runs for 15 to 30 minutes and then loses power steering. Turning the car off and restarting it is no longer sufficient; once it first loses the power steering, it will not run for more than 5 minutes without losing power steering again. Gm informed me that there is no official recall, and therefore I would have to fund the repairs myself; the rough estimate was $1,000 in parts and labor. Research online shows that gm allegedly sent out a notice regarding this issue, however I can honestly attest that I never received any such notification, and had the steering not failed on my vehicle, I would never have been aware of it. Currently, I cannot use the car at all because it poses a serious danger to myself and others. As an active duty member of the armed forces, this is just absolutely unacceptable and jeopardizes my career.
The power steering light came on when I was backing out of a parking spot. I lost all power steering. Then I check it later tonight and it magically works again. So I guess tomorrow it'll go out again. Just hope its not when I am taking a corner.
My power steering light came on and I noticed that I had lost the power steering ability. With difficulty, I steered the car to the side of the road and turned the car off and then back on and the power steering was working again. This has happened multiple times and with the research I have done, I feel it needs to be recalled for my specific Saturn. I bought the car used 1. 5 years ago and did not know of any problems until now. I have over 100xxx miles on it but that should not exclude me from any recalls that may be issued in the future. I drive my car over 200 miles a day and no longer feel safe in it. This is my 3rd Saturn and I have always loved them but I am very disappointed that this has not been recalled on my car when it is a very specific problem that is happening and being recalled in other vehicles. I got an estimate of over $1000 to fix the problem but I do not have that kind of money laying around. I just hope that I do not get in an accident because of this. If that does happen, gm will be hearing from my attorney.
I am purchasing a 2007 Saturn Ion 3. When I drive down the road sometimes you will hear a ding, pwr str shows up where the odometer is, and I lose my power steering. I stop and turn the car off then on and I have power steering back. I received a letter from Saturn saying that this might become a problem and they would repair it if the vehicle was less than 10 years old and 100,000 miles or less. Of course my Saturn conveniently is over 100k miles. I called Saturn and all they would say is that I can go have it diagnosed and they might help me. Gm has recalled the cobalt for the same problem. 14 people have died because of this problem. Why isn't gm recalling Saturn Ions for this problem?.
My 2007 Saturn Ion lost power steering ability for no specific reason. The warning screen would flash and beep and then it would stop working. It continued to do it throughout the day at random times. Every time I would turn the engine off and restart it the power steering would work again and then randomly stop working usually as I am driving down the road.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power steering. There was a power steering light that illuminated during the failure. She noticed that it was extremely difficult to turn into a parking space as a result. The contact turned off the vehicle and restarted it. When she restarted it, the failure seemed to have corrected itself. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 36,500. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
My 2007 Saturn Ion lost power steering on the highway, I found out it has electric power steering. I was able to get it off the road safely, but this could have been a serious issue. It is intermittent but I believe it should be a recall issue as many owners I found online complain of same issue. My local dealer as seen many vehicles come in for the same problem. Had it been raining or a stop fast situation I would have had no turning control.
I was driving the car and got a pwr str warning on my console. I noticed that I had lost my power steering. I pulled over and turned the car off. When I restarted the car everything worked fine. I didn't have the issue again for 3 days, but now im having it 10-15 times a day. My fiance is the normal driver of this car and does not have the strength to steer and control the car when it looses the power steering. She has almost been in 3 wrecks in the last week resulting from this. There is a recall for the chevy cobalt and pontiac g5 that is TSB 10v073000. This is the same part and component that is on the Saturn Ion, but it wasn't included in the recall for some reason.
Saturn Ion 2007. Loses power steering and you have to turn the motor off and restart to regain power. This was rare at the beginning but happens frequently now.
My 2007 Saturn Ion occasionally loses power steering. When it does, the car chimes 3 times and displays pwr str on the odometer display. This happened once last month, once yesterday, and 3 times today. It seems to be truly random, as I drove 80 miles before the first incident today, only a couple of minutes the other three times, and 90 miles without incident after the final occurrence today. Power steering remains out until I cycle the ignition switch. I found that I could switch to off and back on quickly enough to keep the engine running, and even this brief interruption in power was enough to reset the fault. This is a serious problem, as the car is very hard to steer without power steering. I fear that my wife may not be strong enough to "muscle" the car in this condition. A quick internet scan indicates that this has been a common problem for several model years, and other gm cars with identical components have been recalled, but not Saturn. Please instigate a prompt investigation and get the recall going for these Saturn defects. This is obviously a control module problem since it is so easy to reset, and is not related to the motor itself or overheating, since no cooldown period is required to restore operation. The gm solution seems to be replacing the entire steering column for $1200! this is unacceptable.
Our 2007 Saturn Ion with 12,000 miles lost steering control due to short circuit in steering assist motor. The loss of the power assist while in the mountains resulted 90% steering loss and almost lost control of vehicle. Last year in a similar auto owned by our family the 2006 chevy cobalt lost power steering assist but shorted out while the car was on but parked. I am surprised no safety recalls have been issued.
"pwr str" was displayed on the odometer and the power steering immediately went out. After turning the vehicle off and back on, the power steering worked fine but every time after driving for more than a few minutes, the same thing happens and I lose power steering again.
