1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2025

The power steering (the eps, worst system ever) has been randomly cutting in and out driving down the road and traffic making turns shutting down and making it almost impossible to drive or park stay between lines adjust as needed and it cuts in and out it has been fixed per recall once but it still continues to do it it hasn't even been 14,000 miles since the recall was fixed and it is still cutting in and out of the dash says power steering and you can't turn the wheel.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2025

Power steering went out. I was driving and I was on the freeway and the steering wouldn't move like it should. It became very hard to steer so I exited off the highway and pulled in to a store barely missing the sign. I call a friend and had the car towed home and looked at. I was told the eps went out. The next time I started the car it said power steering on the odometer. The dealership said the recall was closed out already. But I still have no ability to steer the car. It sits unrepaired and I undrivable.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2024

While driving the car has issues with power steering when turning the wheel either direction the steering will lose power steering and jerk the opposite direction turning. I have almost been in numerous accidents now the worst going 75 on highway passing semi around a corner and it jerked and almost sent me right not the semi. This has happened numerous times as I was passing vehicles. Its not a steady no power steering it will do it out of the blue and anymore it's more times than not and again only when turning the wheel. It's scary. Our VIN # isn't specified with the recall but has serious power steering issue. No warning lamps or anything like that. We have not had this vehicle inspected yet by a dealership. As far as the incident date it's not one specific date. It does this every day the car is driven.

In January 2016 while driving on highway to work I had bear to the right at an intersection from 1-90 to 1-76, wheels/steering locked or something and I ended up spinning off roadway. Hit division embankment crashing front end and my air bags never deployed. Traction in the car I later found out was not engaging when it should have been. Now car's traction does not work if it ever really did. I have been in touch with gm complaints department and now I have been assigned a case number but this is about recalls on y vehicle that I do not know they really are because Saturn wants me to pay to get this information. I asked why but did not get an answer. . Read more...

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

The vehicle smells like gasoline after being driven and smells like gasoline when stationary. The power steering will display a warming message and the car will become hard to steer.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2018

Power steering goes out intermittently.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2018

Front driver's seatbelt is difficult to snap in. Power steering works intermittently while driving and braking.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2018

My complaint number is 11061303 I complain about power steering went out and I did not receive a recall notice. I guess when they did the ignition recall and I brought it in they supposedly did the power steering too on Dec 12 2014 . Even if they did this the power steering should not go bad in 3 years. My car is garage kept.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2017

Over the last three to four years my power steering has went out my front passenger tire has almost fallen off twice I had to have it fixed my car don't want to start after I fill it up it's sputters every time and I've had literally had to get cut out of my seatbelt because it would not unlatch and mikey don't want to come out of the ignition have the time. The power steering went out while driving the tire almost fell off while driving and of course I'm stopped when I'm fueling and I was stopped when I was stuck in my seatbelt and stopped every time I try to take my key out.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2017

Since having the recalls for the ignition done - when the car is placed in park I have to pull the shifter toward reverse to get the key out. Also since the recalls were done all the sudden my steering rack is making a clunking noise which my mechanic is saying will soon need replaced. It was perfectly fine before the recalls for the ignition and such were done on my car. Literally the days after is when it started and the dealership said that it is because my car is old. Not buying that answer. All of this has to be tied to a recall, I take great care of my car. I just had the control arms replaced as well and the mechanic said they were near disintegrated!.

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2017

Key stuck in ignition when park . The only way to replace it by replace button under the steering wheel.

21 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2017

My car had the power steering motor replaced under a safety recall in 2012. Now the same problem has happened again, and the power steering motor has gone out. I missed the special extended warranty for this by 2 days - it expired on 3/27/17, and it went out again on my car on 3/29/17. Now I'm told it cannot be repaired again under the safety recall. It seems to me that if a part is covered under a safety recall because it can fail, is replaced, then fails again, there is still a problem with that part being used in the car. It should still be able to be replaced at no charge to the owners. I know that for 2003 Saturn Ion the recall appies to the life of the car.

22 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2017

The power steering all of the sudden goes out and it makes it difficult to turn. I almost got an accident today while driving 50 mph on the freeway, because the power steering just stopped working. This has been happening more often, and it occurs at speed greater than 35 mph. I searched online and found that there was a recall for this problem, but gm customer service told me that there is no active recall.

23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2017

I have a Saturn Ion and I am having an issue described in a recall. I took my vehicle in to a gm dealer and called the gm customer service and they are refusing to honor the recall. The vehicle losses power steering periodically and it is very scary to drive.

24 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2016

A general motor recall has been issued in the past for a loss of power steering only on certain vehicles in the past year. A problem is corrosion of the electric power steering module and the torque sensor connector may cause a loss of the power steering. This will cause greater operating power by the driver under low speed driving and causes a greater chance of an accident or death because the difficulty in driving a vehicle effected by this problem. Gm has made this a recall to be fixed in the dealer, but only certain vehicles, the Saturn Ion was involved, and I had it corrected, but what I experienced before, is back again, and I believe the power steering assist is defective again. Many recalls in the past have been reoccurring issues with vehicles, and this may be another one.

25 Steering problem

27 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

There is a bosh/cdr report from esis of general motors outlining the data received from the crash for non-deployment of the airbag. Mr. Segovia of gm stated that the airbag should not have deployed based on the statistic from this report. I do not believe what he has stated. I need a review of the report for compliance regarding the non-deployment of the airbag to my 2007 Saturn Ion. Gm through esis has refused to surrender the report to the defected seatbelts. My general motors pending claim #816261. I have noticed andrew segovia, esq. , ms. Mary t. Barra, ceo, mr. Daniel ammann, president of gm regarding the second half of the claim of the defaulted/recall of the power steering during the crash. Mr. Segovia has confirmed esis's email stating that there was a power steering recall/defect to my car VIN number and remained open. There was the debris on the highway that caused the accident and then there was the defected power steering problem with my 2007 Saturn Ion which caused the crash. I was never notified of this recall by gm. The defaulted power steering caused the crash. In the outset of this claim, general motors was aware that the power steering of the vehicle was inoperable. I tried to turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle would not crash into the rail guard but failed. I could not steer the vehicle. If I would have been notified of the power steering recall and defect, the car would have been repaired and operable at the time the car crashed. But general motors defected power steering caused me to have no control of the power steering of the vehicle away from the rail guard so the car would not crash into the rail guard. The power steering was inoperable and as a result caused the crash. I am awaiting a response back from general motors in the resolution/settlement of this matter as well and other information regarding the loaner vehicle.

28 Steering problem

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,900. Oo.

29 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2015

I started the car and heard the chimes and saw a message appear where the odometer mile appears - power steering. I was parked in between two cars and I had no power steering. It seemed to go out. The car was very hard to maneuver to backup in between the two cars and into the shoulder lane. I was close to hitting one of the park cars. Once in the shoulder lane I turn car off and restarted the car. The car went back to power steering. I had taken the car for the recall back in October and the problem was supposedly fix when I complained that above the 60 mph I was loosing control of the steering wheel. I called Saturn customer service today and at first gave me a no saying the problem had been fixed. I explained to them that they were deceiving the customers by putting a quick fix on the issue and not completely resolving the issue. Analogy of a bandaid on a deep wound. Unfortunately, I need my car and need to drive it but I am scared for my family safety. I am taking it back tomorrow to the dealership to diagnose the issue again. I hope they make it right this time around.

31 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

Power steering goes in and out very dangerous to drive or control ignition switch repaired this is just as dangerous models pontiac g and chevy cobalts have same power steering module and were recalled not Saturn models.

32 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

While driving on city streets at approx. 25 miles an hour the steering wheel disengaged from the steering mechanism. This was very frightening for my daughter. The vehicle was pushed into a parking lot. We spoke with the manufacture and we were told to that the vehicle did not have any recalls that were outstanding. We had the vehicle towed to the the nearest dealership to be evaluated. We were told that the steering coupling was broken and needed to be replaced. This we had done. We were very fortunate that this did not occur while driving on the freeway. The complete disconnection of the steering from the rest of the vehicle is something gravely serious. This something that the NHTSA should look into.

33 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

2007 Saturn Ion. Consumer received the first recall and was told by the dealer the parts were not available. He was told the same thing when the 2nd recall arrived. The consumer referenced recall # 14v153000.

35 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

I was driving at speed limit from I 75 to rochester road at 7:50 am. All of sudden, I felt steering got very hard to turn and stuck at pointing to right, I tried my best to turn the steering wheel, but no success, car span off the road into the ditch, back of the car ended up on an electric pole. No airbag deployment. No other cars hurt. Someone called 911. I felt ok at the moment. 2 hours later felt dizzy. Based on how odd the steering felt, I think I had experienced a sudden power steering loss. Luckily the car did not hit the pole first, otherwise I could have died.
