I cranked car power steering would not work. Turn car off restarted car still no power steering turn car off raised hood could not see anything wrong. Restarted car third time power steering work ok. Week later same problem with power steering turn car off restarted worked fine. This car has a salvage title gm will not cover this (bulletin 14115)because of title. If it was a recall they would pay for repair. I have never been notify by gm of this problem . Found all my information thru your web site. Don't understand why this problem is not classed as a recall. I don't think I could have turn steering wheel if I had been moving in the car at slow rate of speed. . With car not moving could not turn steering wheel at all.
I just have a question. I received a recall notice for my car today, October 10, 2024. I called immediately and the first appointment to get it repaired is December 30th. I don't think that is a reasonable length of time. My question is, is it safe and reasonable to have to wait this long?.

Car impacted by three recalls 14v047, 14v171, 14v153 contacted dealership in June- no parts, registered with dealership October told parts are on order. Dealership advised there are 700 consumers on their recall list, to date they have been able to service 100. Neither gm or dealership can provide any timeline for when might be able to expect repair. At the least, as a consumer having a timeframe for repair would help us weigh options, particularly while we are forced to put our families at risk due to the continued unavailability of parts.

The car is presently under recall for ignition. However. The car cannot be driven as the pwr str warning comes on for a few seconds, and no steering or severe loss of all steering control of the vehicle is lost after the car has run for 15 minute and every 5 plus minutes after the first failure. Gm will not fix anything on my vehicle, I made a complaint with NHTSA and have made internal complaint at gm regarding my 2007 Ion and the 3 accidents due to the loss of ignition and total power including break failure going down the highway at 50 plus and losing control resulting in accidents. I need help to start the complaint about the power steering as it will not allow me to safely drive the car at all. I am disabled and on oxygene, I have requested special accomidations from gm to assist with my disabled condition to help expadite any repairs and all warranted coverages for power steering, air bag non function, and recalled ignition. The car presently has 55,000 miles and cannot be driven as the power steering will not allow the car to be controlled. The previous, most recent accident, caused structural damage including a front fender complete bent and radiator bent at a tail collision due to ignition outage with no breaks at 30 plus mph. No air bags deployed, only damages to myself, blindness to left eye and severe concossion, and car is not safe to drive. Gm will has not taken any action since my phone complaints in April, almost 30 days ago. Anthony lombardo 937-938-1466 VIN 1g8aj55fx7z101428.
I was driving on the highway at approximately 55 mph and the car altered with the error sound and pwr str showed on the odometer display. Power steering was lost, but the wheel was still able to turn. On the highway, the steering wheel was not capable of turning much past 2 o'clock position. At lower speeds I could make right and left turns, but with a great amount of effort. The vehicle is not safe to operate without the use of the power steering. At high speeds, the steering wheel does not have has much range of motion.

A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed from the scene. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
Message "pwr str", loss of power steering assist. Shutting off ignition temporarily fixed issue and regained power assist, however issue continually crops up, 6 or 7 times during a normally 25 minute/18mile drive home from work. I was driving with cruise control on a straight highway, no sharp turns, an apparently unprovoked failure. I see there is a 3/31/2014 recall for this particular failure but I have not yet received any notification of it, though I have received notification of a later 4/10/2014 recall having to do with the ignition switch. Vehicle mileage reported is approximate, not sure exact mileage but right around 113,000.

Luckily the first incident occurred when I was driving on a fairly straight state route. The car's alert system dinged then displayed and error of "pwrsteer". I could, at speed, feel that the power steering was gone. I made it home and turned off the car. When I started the car to go out later the power steering was working for about 3 miles, then the car's alert system dinged and the pwrsteer message was displayed again. It has been approximately 30 hours since the 1st incident and every time I start the car I have power steering but the power steering goes out within 10 - 15 minutes of any drive.
In December, 2012 we purchased a 2007 Saturn Ion from a local dealer. Shortly after purchase we had issues with the electrical system and the ignition key which we contacted the dealer about and were reassured that it was no cause for concern, subsequently we allowed my significant other's daughter to take the vehicle to college with her as she needed a form of transportation at school. On black Friday, 2013 she encountered a minor motor vehicle accident in a parking lot where it is my understanding the vehicle shut off. I have contacted general motors and requested a courtesy vehicle for her which they had agreed to provide through the national highway traffic safety administration's web site and they state one excuse after another why they cannot do this. General motors has exhibited a complete lack of any concern for the driver's safety and they are now at the point where they want my significant other to drive 500 miles across state pick up her vehicle, take it to a dealer and pick up a rental car, which will cost her a $50 deposit and when the repair, which is a manufacturers defect, is finally completed she should do this all over again without any compensation from gm. This is totally unacceptable and in complete conflict with what gm has told the NHTSA they would do. At this point in time, I respectfully request NHTSA investigate this matter and propose an agreeable resolution.
My wife and I were traveling to see family for thanksgiving. About 100 miles into the trip the power steering indicator came on the dash and a beep sounded. I was traveling on a interstate highway in va going about 70 mph. I was still able to maintain control of the vehicle but was concerned. I was traveling with my son, pregnant wife, and grandmother. I am glad the issue happened while I was driving as my wife or grandmother might not have been able to control the vehicle as well traveling at high speeds. I searched online and this appears to be something people have been dealing with for many years. Even if a full recall is not done. I believe the automaker should be responsible for fixing those vehicle that have reported this issue. Our Saturn Ion is a 2007 and was bought used in 2009. There was no issue with the steering until November of 2013.
My power steering quit working.
I had just made a left turn into a parking lot when chimes and the message "pwr str" appeared on the display. The steering wheel then felt like it locked and was extremely difficult to turn. I pulled into an empty parking space, turned off the car, and waited for 5 minutes before starting the car. Once I restarted the car, I reversed and was able to turn the steering wheel as normal. I drove about a mile back to my house and the chime nor message appeared again. I'm afraid that it will happen again so I'm taking my car to a gm dealership first thing in the morning. I was lucky that traffic was light and I was going very slow.
I was driving down the highway and the warning console indicated that I had a power steering problem. The power steering suddenly gave out. It reset itself when I stopped and turned the car off and started it back up. The power steering worked for a couple more miles going down the highway then gave out again.
Was driving over a bridge going 55mph and my power sterring went on my vehicle almost causing an accident with no where to get off the road, it then continue to happen on the rest of my trip.
Was driving on I-40 heading home one night from work and the power steering alert came on. The wheel became extremely difficult to turn and control my car. I pulled over and turned the car off and all was right for about 10 mins and it happened again. Since then I have no power steering in my car because there is no recall for this problem and I cannot afford to pay an outrageous amount of money to have it repaired. This needs to be addressed and recalled for the safety of the owners and other drivers on the road. Thank you for your time.
The manufacturer key wont start the car without spending over 10 min. Turning the wheel back and forth and finding just the right "spot". Key will come out fine, even without shutting car completely off at times. This is insane, from what I've read, there are more than enough complaints similar to this to warrant an investigation or recall. This is not only a safety feature, its just shows horrible workmanship. Already been a part of the original power steering recall before it became a recall. People need to complain, keep complaining and demand gm to take responsibility for this crap.
The power steering malfunctioned while turing onto an exit ramp from an interstate highway at 55 mph. As soon as it occurred, the console light indicated a power steering code. After pulling into a truck stop, I looked to check for the power steering fluid level, and discovered that it is an electronic system. When restarting the vehicle, the problem was resolved. There were no issues for several days and many miles, and now it is happening frequently, and occurs at both low and highway speed, while operating the vehicle in straight conditions, and while turning on city streets and parking lots. I have researched this problem online and have discovered that this type of situation it is already under investigation by the NHTSA.
Was driving when power steering went out.
I had just pulled my car forward to help a friend jump her car. Once I put it in reverse to move my car, the power steering went out.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, a warning chime sounded with the illumination of the power steering warning indicator. In addition, there was a complete loss of power steering assist. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. The vehicle resumed normally upon being restarted. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The fuse was replaced however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not further repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I was driving straight at 50 mph , when a chime sounded, power steering was displayed on message center, and power steering force was lost. Steering became almost too heavy to steer at all. Was able to pull over, turn off ignition, and reset steering system. Since then, this happened without warning at least 20 times in the past year. Power steering motor felt hot to touch. I am stuck with this very dangerous condition. Recall should include all cars affected. Gm is negligent so far in replacing this on all affected vehicles.

2007 Saturn Ion. Consumer writes in regards to free ignition replacement when parts are available and airbag recall notices. The consumer stated the power steering locked up in January 2013.
Power steering goes out at random times while driving. Very hard to steer and make turns. Have called about having it fixed, there is no recall listed, but over 800 complaints of the same thing happening.
When I driver my vehicle the steering stiffer up as I driver it down the road.
