The key sticks in the ignition whenever I try to turn the car off. It takes awhile before I am able to get it out, causing the battery to drain. I have had to replace my battery already. This is a major issue that after doing some research a very common issue for Ion owners. With it being so common I don't understand why a recall has not been done. 7 Engine problem of the 2007 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 12/13/2007

I purchased the 2007 in may of 2007. As of today, the car has 18,000 on it. Directly after I got the car, I began to have severe headaches. The car mostly ran without any issues, just that I has very bad headaches, and then began to black out while driving. I have had several medical bills, including a 5 day stay in June after an accident. All of the tests completed showed that I did not have any tumors, however I did have a rise in the CO levels. The car was taken to the dealer, and a devise was placed on the car. The dealer then drove the car home, and said that he felt light headed, and was unsure if it was the car. He then drove the car back to the dealership in the morning and placed the device on it again. On 2 occasions he reported to me that he had recorded different readings, both very high. He then called Saturn directly, and was instructed to wait and he would send another device to record the CO levels. That same evening, I was called by david quirk the owner of the business, and he said that he personally drove the car and took it to the car to a fire house, and had a fireman that he knew and he said that he could not detect anything in the car. Clearly, this was just a tactic to see if I was going to sue him. I only want for the car to be replaced.

12 Engine problem of the 2004 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 11/30/2006

I have had my 04 Ion for one and half years now, and last year when the weather started to get cold, it would not start. I called the dealer and they told me that the grease around the ignition could not tolerate the cold weather here in nevada. So I had it replaced. Problem solved, until this year. Just today, for the first time this year, it didn't start. Now the weather here has been in the teens for the past week, this tells me that it's not just the temperature, there has to be something else. But no one can tell what. Something needs to be done.

15 Engine problem of the 2004 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 10/09/2005

Saturn Ion 2004. Two major defects. I purchased the car new in October 2004. In October 2005, the transmission failed, and required complete replacement. Saturn stated there had been many concerns about the transmission, so replaced it for free. (minus my incurred costs of travel). Second major defect: may 2006, a cylinder head cracked. Saturn has agreed to "replace" the cylinder head, but I have to pay for $800. 00 of the repairs. A 2 year old vehicle should not have these two major defects. The car currently has 79k miles. I know that "replacing" the cylinder head will get the car running again, but it will never be the same. . . And I still owe 10,000 dollars on the car. Thank you for your consideration.

The failure began a year after the vehicle was purchased and has become worse over the years. The failure mileage was 111,899.

17 Engine problem of the 2004 Saturn ION

Failure Date: 02/10/2004

When the weather gets too cold, my car does not start. I either have to keep trying to start the ignition every 5 minutes and then in half an hour it starts or I have to wait until the sun comes out for my car to start. I've had this car for a couple of years now and I only have this problem from November-February. These are the coldest months and every morning during these months I have this problem of not being able to start my vehicle.
