Engine Shut Off Without Warning Problems of Saturn ION

I have taken this car in several times for the same reason. . . Idle sticks then it shuts down completely or it will just cut off while I'm driving it. The Saturn repair shop couldn't find anything wrong. I paid for this 3 times and gave up. I've also had my ignition repaired already so this recall does me no good. I've already paid for it. Now my timing chain broke and I have a cracked seal in my engine. There was a recall for this too but the year of my car was not included in that recall. . . . I spoke with gm and they're telling me that my 100,000 mile or 10 yr warr. Stopped November 2013. I bought this may, 2004 so I think 10 years would be may of 2014. Is there anyway to get my money back and them pay for the timing chain? signed: angry consumer.

We bought our 2005 Saturn Ion used sept. 4, 2012,(87,812) before even could take off lot they had to install an ignition cylinder and cut new key, and the throttle was stuck could press all the way to floor, and would only get up to about 20mph. This was also fixed. (or so we thought). Since our purchase, we still have trouble with the key getting stuck, it not turning off with car still running, or the car won't start, it happens so much that our daughter who drives it just figures that's they way it's suppose to be, because when take back to dealer either it won't do it for them or does't do it for a month or so. Now the warranty has ran out so if it happens again they told us we had to take care of, well it happened again today, she parked would not shut off, called dealership, they can't do anything because gm hasn't given them recall yet! was in accident on Jan. 2, 2014 front end air bags did not deploy! not sure why not!!! this July was coming home and driving down road car just shut off while driving about 30mph and had to manually try to get car off road without hurting car or anyone else's car, after sometime got car to start again and got it home, called dealership their response if happens again bring it in. And still to this date sometimes her throttle will stick, as a parent I'm holding my breath every time she leaves our drive in this vehicle. Please help soon.

When I was pulling out of the parking lot of my job there is a slight dip in the road when exiting the parking lot on to the street and as I was pulling out making a right turn and I went over the bump and my car shut off and I was not aware it had shut off until I was almost at a complete stop. That was the very first time it happen, it shuts off almost every time I hit a bump.

I was driving home through the maryland mountains after visiting family for thanksgiving. I was in a line of cars traveling at 70mph, passing a semi, when the engine suddenly shut off without warning. I could barely steer or push on the brake pedal as I had lost power. My turn signals didn't work and I considered putting my hands out the window to wave to drivers warning them of the impending danger. Thankfully the one car behind me must have known something was wrong because he backed off allowing me to coast behind the semi and eventually pull off to the side of the highway. I called my dad immediately and he started googling engine shut off problems and found multiple complaints. When I got home I called my local mechanic and he told me to call the dealer. I called the gm Saturn dealer in town and the person laughed stating he never heard of that before. Unfortunately, at the time, I did not make an official report with any other agency. But I do have emails that were written to friends explaining the frightening experience shortly after the incident. This car is a 2007 and I didn't purchase the vehicle until 2011! 5 years after gm knew of the death trap on wheels. When I originally researched this car none of these problems came up on my search. It wasn't until I searched for the specific problem (engine shut off) that hundreds of complaints surfaced. I'm lucky to be alive today! I still drive around in this death trap because I can't afford to buy another car. It only has 55k miles on it and I used my savings to pay it off.

On and off for the past year my car has had moments when it would shut off while I am driving. At first it would happen when I may accelerate out of a parking space. One day I'm just driving down a parkway at about 40mph, and the car just shut off. The radio stayed on but the engine just shut off. Luckily no other cars were near me at that point. I took my car to several mechanics and they all said it may be the battery. We changed the battery and that didn't stop the problem. Most recently, I pulled out into on coming traffic. I couldn't have been, at that moment, more than 10mph and the car shut off again with cars rapidly speeding up on me and my car not moving. It was terrifying and I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle.

Driving down the road car shuts off, I was going 20mhp the road was straight came to a right hand bend in the road and car was off no abs, no pwr ster, there were cars sitting at the stop sign. Luckily I was able to get the car stopped. To get the car started I had to put in park turn key off then turn key over and it starts right up. This is now the 2nd time this has happened. First time sitting at a red light car was running light turned green gave it the gas mid way through intersection car shut off again and drifted to side of the road with a bunch of cars honking. I thought I needed a tune up and that was 3months ago. That happened until two days ago. Car shuts off while driving with warning, if I was going any faster I would have hit the back end of the car that was stopped @ a stop sign. 2004 Saturn Ion 2. 2l I have not done anything with this part do to no income right now.

Driving down the road at about 35 mph I hit a bump (frost heave) and the entire vehicle shut down. No engine, no electrical systems. The vehicle became difficult to steer and the brakes did not operate as well as when the vehicle was running. I forced the car to the side of the road, turned the key off and back on again and restarted the car.

2006 Saturn Ion. Engine shuts off while driving regardless of speed or outside temperature. This past Sunday, I was on the freeway and the engine shut off while my car was making a slight right merging onto a new freeway. If it wasn't for my fathers advice ,my quick actions and aware drivers around me, I would have flown off the freeway. I have taken my car to many shops and not one can find the problem nor fix it. No recalls so far have been issued and as far as Saturn is concerned, no other car has had this issue. Being a pregnant woman, this makes me extremely nervous and in fear to drive my car. I have called many Saturn dealerships that have all taken this issue lightly. This issue first occurred in January of 2009 and not again until August of 2009 and has happened about once a week since then. No engine signs are issued or is there anything leading up to the issue. The car just basically shuts off as if the key was being turned. The battery stays so I know that is not the issue. I am in fear of my safety as well as the safety of other drivers.

We have had this problem now going on the 3rd time with our Saturn Ion. No crank no start, like you cut the power off to the car. No gauges ,no lights no emergency signals. There is a problem with the circuit board in the fuse box, it seems to break contact with in the area that controls this. The first time the dealer changed the part, 2nd time we had no warranty and had to pay $550. Now it has done it again. The first time my wife was driving home at night when it just shut off and there was no lights or emergency signals and she was on a dark highway.

Engine shut off, causing the steering wheel to lock when vehicle traveled over road bumps. Taken to dealer twice for testing, but the results showed no apparent problem.
