1 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2009 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

Driver headlight harness overheats, causing headlight to go out. This has happened three times now in less than two years. I replaced the connector harness and within a few weeks it had melted and the light was out again. When I looked up what to do I found out that many other Saturn Outlook owners have the same problem.

Now that its cold my truck wont start. Every morning I have to jump start it. I also notice the head lights go out well on one that is. The left one. When in idle the stability track light on dash board illuminates I know this isn't right I had that serviced already. Then the engine light comes on. The wire harness for the front headlights fails after you change the build causing the light to short out.

5 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 12/27/2014

I had my passenger low beam light already fixed because of this issue with the wiring harness to the low beam light melt. Now my driver side headlight went out and its the same issue as before with the wiring harness melting and the light not working on some days and then working the next day or later in the day when I start the car up again. This needs to be addressed by gm to get it fixed. I know there was a service bulletin put out for the vehicle that expired December 31, 2013. Both of my low beam lights have stopped working this year.

6 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Driver side head light went out about a week ago,I replaced the light bulb and it worked for a few days. The same light went out again. I went to replace it ,just to notice a wire was out and the connection had melted. I looked it up and come to find out there is a faulty harness. I contacted a gm dealer and was told they were aware of it,but the extended warranty was over on 12-31-13. If this is a on going issue, why wont a recall be issued?? I don't have 400 dollars to have a new harness installed.

7 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Low beam headlights continue to go out after replacing with new ones. Has happened parked once but usually occures accelerating after being stopped or after driving distances more than 30 miles. This started back in early 2014 and has continually gotten more and more frequent. Other various electrical problems keep occuring such as lights dimming while driving (interior dash) and climate control setting changing to what I can presume are default settings (74 deg for both driver and passenger side turning on).

8 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

We purchased this Saturn Outlook in may of 2013, it was used but very well taken care of. Soon after we purchased the vehicle, the headlights periodically go out. It is not the bulb because the bulb comes back on, but in the electrical wiring, we have owned this car for almost 2 years and countless times the headlights will completely go off while we are driving! this is frightening and so very dangerous. I know of other Outlook owners that have the same exact problem! please do a recall and help us, before someone gets hurt in a horrible accident from their headlights going out while they are driving!.

9 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2009 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 03/31/2013

While driving home at night, the driver side headlight went out. Next day I bought new lamps and replaced both of them but the driver side headlight still didn't turn on. I did notice a burning smell coming from the harness and lamp socket on the driver side. It seems that the headlight had overheated and melted the wiring harness and some of the socket assembly. After doing some research I found that many people have had the same issue with these vehicles and believe that this should be considered a recall for safety reasons. This could potentially cause and electrical fire or a serious traffic accident while driving at night.

10 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

Started car after work, right headlight did not come on. Took it into the shop, had it replaced, $165. Two weeks later left head light went out. A week after, right headlight went out again. Took car into shop and paid double for both to be replaced. One month later left headlight went out again. Was told by mechanic that harness for headlight had melted and needs replacing as well. Have invested almost $700 in headlight repair in 12 weeks.

11 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 12/03/2011

Passenger headlight fails intermittently. Appears to be due not to the bulb, but due to sub-grade wiring harness that melts over time.

12 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 10/26/2011

The headlights went out while I was driving home in the early evening, reducing my visability and the ability for others to see my vehicle. Fortunately, it wasn't night yet and I was still able to navigate home, however had it been just an hour later it would have been completely dark and siginificantly more unsafe for this incident to have occurred. The wiring harness is a known defect by gm and steps should be taken to remedy it. This can create unsafe road conditions for Saturn Outlook drivers.

13 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2009 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 10/13/2011

Drivers side headlight and running lights went out.

14 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 09/21/2011

About a month ago, the headlights on the drivers side of my 2007 Outlook xr started experiencing intermittent operation. I tried to take it into the shop once, but by then they had come back on. A few weeks later, both of my headlights went out. This time, I had the shop look further into the problem. As it turned out, both of the headlight harnesses were completely melted and my mechanic reported that one even appeared to have caught fire. We had to pay to replace the headlight assemblies because there has not been a recall issued for our Outlook, even though I have seen online reports of this sort of problem. I was told that the new headlight assemblies are much sturdier and that this problem shouldn't reoccur, however, I feel that gm should have been the one to pay for the repair. Obviously there was an issue with the metal and/or wiring on the first headlight harnesses. I would like to see gm issue a recall on these and for us to be reimbursed for the cost we've already incurred.

15 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 09/10/2011

Driver side headlight went out, bought a new bulb and went to change it and realized the wiring harness is melted. Called the "authorized" Saturn dealer and was told this was fairly common (what!!!!) and that it would cost approx. $700. 00 to repair. After some on-line research, found alot of people out there with the same problem. Factory warranty that would cover this ran out 4 months prior to this and do not have that kind of money to spend on a simple headlight. This should be a safety issue due to the fire hazard of melting wires and people driving with only 1 or no headlights. Who knows how long I have till the passenger side does the same thing.

16 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 09/04/2011

My drivers side headlight went out. I purchased a new one and when I installed it, it did not work. I checked the connection more thoroughly and found the connector melted on one side. The copper connecter was black and the surrounding black plastic brittle and misshapen. You cannot replace the wire harness without removing the composite light fixture which looks like you need to remove the front bumper assembly. The average car owner would have a difficult time just replacing the low beam lamp. The high beam lamp requires disassembly. Of the composite headlamp unit. The wires are thin on the lighting harness and should be recalled. There are numerous reports of the same problem and gm needs to do something about it.

17 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 08/22/2011

My Saturn Outlook only has 44,000 miles on it and the passenger side headlight went out. Got a replacement bulb from dealership - changed it - and the light was out after a week and a half. Went back to dealership to buy another bulb and when switching it out - noticed that the wiring harness was melted. Looked online only to find that this is a common problem with this vehicle and it should be recalled - as the danger of a fire is a high risk and having working headlights is the law.

18 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 08/10/2011

I have owned my 2007 Saturn Outlook since new. I love my car overall, but have experienced some unwanted repairs. Besides the front passenger airbag not working properly, and the sunroof leaks, I have had to completely replace 3 headlight harnesses already. My right light went out approximately 2yrs ago. Found out the wiring was completely melted. Saturn advised this was a problem with this vehicle and replaced it under warranty at no cost. Just recently, the same headlight went out again. I took the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealership who initially told me it was just a headlight and I would have to pay for it. Turns out it was the harness again. While the harness was on order, my other headlight went out causing me to drive with highbeams for lighting for several days. Yes, it was the same problem for both lights. The Chevrolet dealership went ahead and repaired them both at no charge to me as a courtesy they said. My vehicle had 72,000 miles. While I appreciate that they covered the costs, I also feel this should not be happening in the first place. After reading several other complaints, I feel grateful I did not pay but am extremely concerned about the safety of my vehicle. This is definitely a fire hazard. My headlights were so hot I could not even touch them and that was after they burnt out! gm needs to do the right thing and recall these vehicles for immediate and permanent repairs. They keep replacing the harness with the same harness so it will continue to be a major safely hazard.

19 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 06/29/2011

Headlights go out due to a faulty wire harness. Has happened many times and I fix it just to have them go out again. This is a clear safety issue and many people have had the same problem. Time to step up and fix this obvious safety problem.

20 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 06/23/2011

Headlight wiring harness failure.

21 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 06/18/2011

Driving south on interstate 77 in ohio the low beam headlights went out. Luckily it was in an area that had some lighting that gave me time to react due to there being heavy traffic behind me that may have not been able to stop causing a fairly large accident. Having to drive home with my high beams on the remaining 60 miles to home and then inspecting the bulbs when I arrived home, I noticed that the harnesses were melted near the connectors. I inspected the bulbs and they are the original equipment bulbs and not high wattage replacements that may have caused a deviation from what the harnesses were intended for.

22 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 06/17/2011

On my 2008 Saturn Outlook the passenger side headlight went out then after being replaced went out again about a month later come to find out the wiring burned out and had to be replaced. A few months later I was driving and pulled over for the driver side headlight being out. I had the light replaced only for it to go out a few months later and also at this time told the wiring melted and I had to get the whole thing replaced. This is a safety issue I drive with kids in my car and if this ever happened to both lights at night I don't want to think of what could have happened.

23 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Headlight went out. Replaced with same type of bulb. Bulb was out in 4 days. Wiring harness completely melted. Gm has already issued a 'tech notice' on this extensive problem, but the dealer refused to cover the repair cost of $400 because it isn't a recall. I'm sorry, but replacement of a headlight bulb that then burns up the wiring harness is a manufacturing defect and a major safety issue. Why isn't a fuse tripped if there is some issue - any time electronics melt, that is a big problem! in addition to the obvious safety issue of not having a headlight working, is there power still going to the harness? what happens if you are forced to continue driving before getting this replaced? is your car going to eventually catch fire? this needs to be recalled immediately. Based on the number of complaints I've seen with the NHTSA , this should have already been a forced recall.

24 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 04/29/2011

Melting / electrical fire in headlight wiring harness and pre-mature headlight bulb failure.

25 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 04/22/2011

The low beam headlight went out on the vehicle. I went to autozone to purchase the headlight replacement when I was told that it could possibly be two different headlights that I would need to bring the broken one so they can sell me a replacement. I found out that it is not very easy to replace the headlight on this vehicle as several other parts have to be removed in order to get to the headlight connector. I found instructions and several complaints from owners indicating they have replaced the headlight several times during the year only to be told by dealers that the harness/connector are burned and that is the cause of the problem. I proceeded to remove the underliner of the tire to get to the headlight on my vehicle. As suspected, the connector and wire harness were burned. I found several service bulletins instructing dealers to "check and replace" the harness and headlight on these vehicles. When I called Saturn I was informed that the dealership had replaced the headlight in my vehicle on April 2011. . . However they never informed me of this change. Right now my wife is driving this vehicle without a headlight as Saturn is refusing to replace the burned harness that I found on the car. This is not only a safety issue, but a fire hazard on the vehicle. This should be a mandatory recall by now. . . . It is not just happening on Saturn Outlooks, it is also happening on GMC acadias which is exactly the same car. . . . .

26 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 04/15/2011

I have a 2007 Saturn Outlook xe and in late 2009 my driver side dim headlight went out. We replaced the bulb to no avail. My husband checked the wires which were burnt up and replaced them. The light would work intermittently. Finally he fixed it long enough to make it last for about 6-8 months and now it is out again. When he checked it this time he noticed that the wires were melted/burnt again. He has once again fixed the problem as best as he could. My warranty is out and we don't have enough money to take it to the dealer so we continue to deal with this issue as best we can. I have ck'd on websites and noticed that I am not the only person with this issue and I believe something needs to be done. I am also having complete wiring problems with the rest of this lemon that I have to drive. The radio and speakers work whenever they wish and the remote start up is now inoperable as it chooses. I have had nothing but problems with this SUV since I bought it, including a transmission problem while on vacation. I was unable to drive for a whole week while it was in the shop to be repaired. Thank goodness I still had a warranty at that time.

27 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2009 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 02/03/2011

Passenger side headlight went out, dealer said it was the entire 'assembly'. A few weeks later (today), the driver side headlight went out. I read all of the other similar complaints about this same issue. Seems to me that a recall should be issued by gm.

28 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 01/31/2011

Failure is headlights go out while driving vehicle. There is no indication of the headlights going out they just go out completely. Both low-beam headlights on my 2008 Saturn Outlook went completely out while driving on the highway. Luckily no accidents we're caused by this issue. I researched various websites only to find gm has a TSB on this issue TSB# 09-08-42-004. I contacted gm today to advise I would like to have this issue repaired they informed me this is only covered under warranty. This seems to be a very serious issue to only be covered under warranty and not under a safety recall.

29 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 12/10/2010

My 2008 Saturn Outlook lost both headlights in December 2010 within a couple of days of each other. The dealer informed us the bulbs had burned out and when they burned out they burned/corroded the wiring harnesses connected to them, necessitating a $200 repair. Less than a year later, in November 2011, the right headlight went out again. When we took it to the dealer on November 4, 2011, they informed us the bulb had burned out and the harness had burned out again, and said the repair would be more than $200. We have seen this problem documented by many Saturn owners on Saturn fan sites, and also read to contact NHTSA to notify you of this common and potentially dangerous safety problem with the Saturn Outlook so that you could consider ordering gm to recall these vehicles. I hope you will order a recall and order gm to solve an unnecessary design problem that is a nuisance at best and could potentially lead to a fire or lost visibility that could result in accidents at worst. Thank you for your consideration.

30 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 11/27/2010

I was driving the vehicle today and noticed that the drivers headlight had burned out again. This is the second time since 9/18/2010. This is a serious matter that needs to be addressed by gm. I can not understand why a recall has not been issued. Does gm even know how to fix this problem. Becoming scared to drive vehicle at night fearing my headlights will go out completely.

31 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 11/23/2010

I am the proud owner of a 2007 Saturn Outlook and love the vehicle so for. However after having it for about 3 months, the passenger headlight went out. An easy fix. I replaced both bulb and two days later, the driverside started turning off and on by itself. I've now replaced both bulb twice in 3 months time. I wish I would've researched this vehicle before I bought it. I now read how gm is doing nothing and this is wrong. Someone could be serious injured or die from a result sudden light outage. Please gm help us out like we've helped you.

32 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2009 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

1. Daytime running lights automatically come on and stay on unless manually turned off by driver. 2. The wiring harness in which the headlight connects melts due to excessive heat causing the headlight to fail and the harness having to be replaced. 3. The repair at the dealer costs $250. This is a common issue with the Saturn Outlook due to poor design of wiring harness.

33 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 11/12/2010

My passenger headlight turned off around 11/12/10, the bulb was replaced. Two weeks later the same headlight turned off again. I took it back to the Chevrolet dealer and they want me to pay $285 to fix the problem. I don't think that its right to make us pay for something that is completely faulty. This is really serious and can cause and accident.

34 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

Passenger side headlight became inoperative, wire harness replaced due to repair description of "melting". No incident for approx 9 months. Driver side headlight becomes inoperative intermittently during driving. Hand adjustment of wire harness temporarily allows headlight to function. Passenger side headlight begins to fail in same intermittent way as driver side headlight. Loss of headlight while driving, driving becomes hazardous.

35 Headlights Turn Off While Driving problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 11/03/2010

My passenger headlight turned off at about 30,000 miles, the bulb was replaced. Two weeks later the same headlight turned off again. I took it back to the dealer when they told me it was under warranty and would replace the faulty wire harness. Now my car is at about 57,000 miles, no warranty and my driver side headlight keeps turning off. I called the Chevrolet dealer and they want me to pay $100 just to look at it and then pay for whatever needs to be done to fix the problem. I don't think that its right to make us pay for something that is completely faulty. This is really serious and can cause and accident.
