Headlights Turn Off While Driving Problems of Saturn Outlook - part 2

Second headlight went out on 2009 Saturn Outlook purchased August 2008. Both times the harness needed replaced. First time the replacement was under warranty, the second time was not, but car is only 2 yrs 2mos old. Both wiring harnesses were burnt out.

Passenger low-beam headlight went out on the 2008 Saturn Outlook at 48,000 miles. I replaced it and the bulb blew out again only two weeks later. I then discovered the wiring harness had melted. Replacement bulbs continue to blow because of the defective wiring harness.

2009 Saturn Outlook headlight failure due to faulty wiring harness.

Daytime running light, low beam headlight went out. Replaced bulb and light still didn't work. While reinstalling light flickered and I noticed there is a short within the harness.

We have replaced the headlight on this vehicle 3 times since October 2010. The headlight went out again last week. We took the car to a gm dealer who replaced the electrical housing to the lamp. After doing research on-line I have discovered that this seems to be a recurrent problem with the Saturn outllook. We are hopeful that they wil make this a recall on the vehicle and the electrical housing to the headlights will be replaced.

Driving and headlight goes out. Headlight has gone out two times since ownership of year and a half. I have replaced the wire harness on the driverside headlight once and going to replace it again! I will hang on to this harness for the future.

The right front headlight went out, replaced the bulb and realized the connector was melted. Two weeks later the left front bulb went out, brought it to the dealership and the connecter was melted. So both sides had electrical melting. Cost to repair is $352.

2008 Saturn Outlook wiring harness on headlight overheated and headlight no longer works. Already had at service center twice. Paid for replacement headlight which went out a day or two later; then paid for a diagnosis. Already pulled over twice by law enforcement for having headlight out.

2007 Saturn Outlook drivers side headlight went out on 6/15/10 enroute from or to CO. Took to out of town dealer to repair & found the harness wiring had melted. Dealer said takes a week to get part & should take care of when I get back home. Called dealer @ home and is 7 to 10 days to get part. Also said I am out of warranty and would have to pay for part plus labor to install. Out of town dealer in CO said there have been numerous reports of harness failures but no recall issued yet.

2008 Saturn Outlook headlight wiring harness failure. At 35,000 miles the driver side headlight wiring harness has melted from overheating with the oem stock bulb attached. Upon inspection the wire and housing are deformed and failing. I replaced the bulb to rule out the possibility of a simple bulb burn out. Now the entire wiring harness assembly will have to be replaced just as the bumper to bumper warranty is set to expire. Also a quick search on google for gm Saturn headlight harness points to several complaints of the exact issue. So this is not an isolated case, just cheap wiring.

07 Saturn Outlook headlight failure. Replaced front right headlight with cost of approximately $500 due to the wires melting. Soon after replacing front right headlight the front left headlight went out. Dealership is stating cost would be $500 due to wires melting.

My lowbeam headlight went out in my 2007 Saturn Outlook. I replaced the light and it went out again a day later. I took the car in to the dealership the wiring harness is melted and the wiring going into the harness is burnt. This is due to too much voltage causing the harness to melt. This has been a problem with many Saturn Outlooks it has yet to be a recall. This is not only a manufacture issue but a safety issue as it could result in a fire. The wiring harness is no longer available so the whole headlight has to be replaced to correct the problem.

While driving at night my 2007 Saturn Outlook the passenger low beam went out. Upon opening the hood when I stopped I noticed the distinct odor of burnt plastic. Upon further evaluation while removing the bulb I observed that the insulation for the wiring harness had melted off and shorted at the interface between the wire and connector. The contact for the bulb also exhibited charring at the connector contact. An internet search for a replacement bulb alerted me that there is a service bulletin (09-08-42-004) addressing the replacement of this harness should the headlight fail. I feel this is a oem design flaw and safety issue since the harness can short out to the point to where the insulation is melted completely off exposing bare wires.

My 2007 Saturn Outlook headlight went out April of 2010, the headlight is extremely difficult to get to. I have repaired this same headlight 3-times and now it is out again. This is a safety issue and the wire harness should be recalled. This issue needs to be addressed ASAP! very frustrating to a Saturn Outlook owner.

Saturn Outlook xr headlights went out when wire on left front headlight melted wiring. . This happened in January 2010 when the right front went out and melted the wiring. Cost to replace the one in January $640. 00 and was told today to replace the left front will be $750. 00. This is a defect and should be recalled as you can look at many web sites and many people are having this problem. We noticed that this only happens when the lights are on high beam only.

Driver's side headlight went out. Replaced bulb. Approximately 3 months later, same headlight went out again. Replaced bulb. Same headlight went out again in July 2010. Replaced a 3rd time. Bulb went out again in Nov 2010. Informed wiring had melted and harness/connector needs to be replaced. Yesterday 12/21/2010 passenger side headlight went out and same problem.

My 2007 Saturn Outlook headlight went out. When researched on the internet on how to change the lamp, I found that the wiring harness for the headlights on all model years of Saturn Outlook, GMC acadia, Buick enclave, and Chevrolet traverse have a similar problem of the headlight wiring harness melting and failing. There is a technical service bulletin concerning the defect ( Saturn TSB #09-08-42-004) stating that the harness should be replaced (with the same harness, so the problem continues) and nyogel gel should be used at the electrical connection point. The melting wiring harness is a fire hazard. I have the harness if you want it.

Right headlamp burnt out October 2009. Had replaced bad bulb and then failed again in November 2009. Took to dealership and was told they replaced the harness and bulb due to harness being melted. Now right headlight failed again 10-22-11. This is a big safety concern in that you can't just swap out the bulb but you have to pull off the front bumper just to replace the bulb. The right front head light wiring harness melts down causing a head light failure.

Approximately mid-year 2009, the right side low-beam head light went out on my 2007 Saturn Outlook. The bulb was replaced with an after-market bulb but to my surprise, the light went out again within 2-3 weeks. Upon taking the vehicle to the Saturn dealership, the entire right front head light area was replaced as the background wiring had completely melted. The cost was over $500. The vehicle was under warranty at the time, hence there was no cost to me. On Saturday, July 2, 2011 however, the same right side head light went out again. Upon taking the vehicle to the gm dealership on Wednesday July 6, 2011, I am now told that the coils have completely melted again and the cost this time to me is $212. This is absolutely ridiculous! this has got to be a manufacturer defect as I am concerned with what is actually getting so very hot that is melting the coils. I am more concerned that this type of heat could potentially cause a fire. Something must be done to prevent an unnecessary tragedy/accident.

I have had numerous problems with my 2007 Saturn Outlook headlights. Headlight went out around 20,000 miles sent to dealer fixed. Headlight goes out again around 5,000 miles later took to dealer replaced headlight. Fine for another 20,000 miles and again same problem. This time out of warranty. I replaced bulb. 1 week later I find connector to bulb is burned. I am very concerned for that at night when it burns again worried wife and children are in danger.
