1 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

My 2008 Saturn Outlook has under 100k miles and when I am at very slow speeds, trying to turn the wheel it loses all power steering and makes it almost impossible to turn the wheel. I cannot parallel park due to this issue nor can I do anything where I may have to make a sharp turn. This is an issue and needs to be recognized by gm.

2 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 04/24/2016

I bought this car in Nov 2015 and by Jan 2016 had lost my power steering twice. Each time the dealer had to replace a hose. It was fine for about a month before starting to become very loud again. At this point I went back and forth with him and he finally replaced the pump and I paid a deductible. It has been 3 weeks and I lost my power steering again. The steering wheel is very squeaky while turning at slow speeds. There is clearly an issue going on that is causing these hoses to keep blowing, I am also reading similar issues by people all over the web. I have two children who I drive around all day long and I have been very lucky we haven't been in an accident due to this yet. Once it was on a very busy high speed road. While I do not know why this keeps happening, this is an issue that clearly needs gm's attention, and it should be fixed by gm. The first time I was parked and as soon as I put my car into reverse it popped, the second I was driving at almost 60mph, the third I was on a back road going around 30mph.

3 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 05/18/2015

Accelerated to get on interstate 41 to 65 mph. Heard a unusual noise. Lost all power steering (ps) , had to use manual/hard to steer control. No warning light came on, no idea of what was happening. Drove car home at a reduced speed. Car maker notified me in September 2014 they had a "campaign" to replace pumps if failed before 150,000 mi. I had heard a ps whine noise and had taken the Outlook to the dealer in february2015, before the 150,000 mi and they said if it failed they would honor the campaign. They would not look at the ps fluid or listen to the noise.

4 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

Just had power steering pump replaced last week and now rack and pinion is ruined. Again almost hit a car no warning and since I just had the pump replaced this was totally unexpected. How are you allowing cars that intermittently lose power steering to be on the highway. Someone will eventually be killed. The garage said he has had many of these same problems with Outlook and acadia.

6 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 04/20/2013

Bought this vehicle used in November of 2012. Noticed that the steering wheel is noisy (a squeaky noise). Eventually when I do u-turns the steering wheel gets stiff but still manageable to steer the vehicle although it's totally stiff to turn. Then lately most of the time when going in and out of a parking lot it seems I totally lost the power steering or perhaps the power steering locks up because it's really hard to turn the steering wheel. Brought it to a former Saturn dealer and they said the power steering pump and rack is busted and needs to get repaired. Their quote to replace the parts and labor is about $1,500.

7 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 07/17/2012

On our 08 Outlook, the power steering just "gave out", whenever it felt like- be in the middle of a sharp turn, u turn, or going on/off an exit ramp. There was no warning (groaning, whining, etc. From the pump), you suddenly would lose power steering. This is extremely dangerous. I contacted the dealership- it apparently wasn't covered under the power train (????why?). I tried all of their "fixes"- flushing the fluid out with new, putting synthetic in, filling slightly above as recommended. It finally boiled down to a new power steering pump. Ridiculous!.

8 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 07/14/2011

On multiple occasions, we have lost the power steering while turning the vehicle. It is most prevalent with deeper turns, so it happens most often at low speeds, such as u-turns and in parking lots. The lost of the power steering gives the driver the sensation of a complete lost of steering. A local mechanic contacted a dealership technician who told him that they had not had any complaints of this on Saturn Outlooks, but have had several Buick enclaves with a similar problem. They recommended changed the type of power steering fluid, and if that did not work then we may need to change the type of power steering pump on the vehicle. So far we have changed the fluid, but it has not been a successful solution as the problem is still occurring.

10 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2007 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 05/30/2011

The first incident involving steering occurred when I hit a puddle in road. I lost all power steering and also had a whining in steering column. I've had multiple incidences since and now have little to no power steering. I've taken to the dealer for multiple issues including the steering issues. They have replaced the steering column and gear as well as moved the power steering cable. This provided a temporary fix however I have little to no steering now and am out of warranty. I have taken to multiple shops and am being told it could be pump or steering column again. The fixes are between $1400-2500 and may do one to find that the issue was the other. In researching online I am surprised there has not been a recall on these vehicles as well. There are a number of other gm products being recalled for same issue but not the Outlook. This occurs at low speeds and low rpms, this makes for dangerous city driving.

11 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2008 Saturn Outlook

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

Vehicle loses power steering at different and unknown times. Either from a stop or trying to turn a corner, the power steering quits working and makes it very difficult to turn, sometimes causing me to enter the next lane of traffic. There is no warning as to when this will happen, or at what exact speed. This has never happened at speeds above 40.
