Took vehicle in for recall on passenger presence sensor. Recall #17036. Now, vehicle displays a airbag warning light. It had never displayed a warning light prior to recall.
Airbag warning light came on. We bought vehicle 8/21/2018 with 26639 miles. We took it to gm dealer to have new key fob programed and they told us about the recall and we took it in for that which the warning light had never came on before they worked on it and now it has.
Air bag warning lights up on my dash and my passenger seat air bag indicator does not light. The warning light comes on as soon as I turn the key on and will not clear. This happens as soon as the key is turned on. I have seen it disappear and the reappear while driving. I have read that this is a very large problem with this car. Please help. . . . Also, does this car have airbags that need to be replaced with all of the airbag problems of late?.

While driving on surface streets with a passenger, a dashboard warning light indicating a problem with the airbag system came on. I contacted onstar and had them run a diagnostic: I was told they couldn't tell what was wrong and there was no recall for anything to do with the airbag system. I find it reprehensible that this recall is a year old and 1- I was never contacted about it and 2- gm *still* has it listed as "recall status: incomplete. Remedy not yet available".

The contact called a local dealer alaska sales & service valley located at 6275 e blue lupine dr, palmer, ak 99645 (888) 238-2917 where informed that the remedy parts were not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened case8-4231620616 additionally, the contact was informed that the senior adviser would call back but no further assistance was provided. Vehicle has standard transmission. Service air bag warning came on during trip with passenger in passenger seat. Vehicle has approximately 62,000 miles. Able to extinguish warning light but returns every time ignition turned on. Passenger airbag indicator will not engage.
Airbag warning indicator stays lit. On the dic and cluster. Noticed this about 2 weeks ago. This is a major safety hazard that needs to be addressed before someone gets killed. Assuming no one has yet. Airbags will not operate when warning lights are on.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. While driving approximately various speeds, the air bag warning light illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the passenger seat sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
The airbag warning light has just come on, on my 2007 Saturn Sky. After getting the error code scanned air bag code b0081. I was informed that there is a problem with the passenger presence system. After speaking to the gm service manager and mechanic who diagnosed the problem with my vehicle and doing some research, I quickly learned this is a known problem and issue for the 2007 Saturn Sky as with the Cadillac cts and kia. Both vehicles have been recalled for the same issue. Based on the number of complaints for the passenger airbag safety system. Why has no recall been issued to solve this malfunctioning system?.
Passenger side airbag warning light is coming on intermittently. Did some research, appears this is a "common problem" with all the Sky/solstice cars due to a defective seat sensor. My car is a low mileage, garage kept car with only 42k miles on it. This should not happen. Also, if other makes and models have had this airbag sensor recalled, why has gm not recalled the Sky/solstice; are the passengers safety not as important in our cars?.
After a gm ignition recall on Saturn Sky--we received notice and took our car to the gm shop to do the work. However now the "airbag warning light" stays on---we did much research and replaced the passenger side seat cushion and sensor-----this did not result in the airbag warning light going off--we took it to the gm dealer to do a diagnostic to see why the seat/sensor replacement did not fix the problem and they state the seat is properly installed and it is not causing the airbag warning light issue---but they did not tell us what was the diagnosed problem. Many Saturn Sky owners have written to you and are very concerned about the safety of their families, the fact they cannot pass state required safety inspections; which renders their gm product completely useless. Gm has never responded to these issues for Saturn Sky owners or for pontiac solstice owners and the NHTSA likewise have not responded to this dangerous issue, despite numerous complaints. Many other air bag issues have been addressed by your board for a variety of vehicles---why not this one? I will be approaching my state and federal representatives with this concern as well; it is a public safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately. My husband has also written to the NHTSA has never responded. Will you respond now?.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. In addition, the service air bag warning message was displayed across the message board. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 14v047000 (air bags, electrical system). The failure mileage was 26,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was informed that the air bag system on the front passenger side failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 31,000.
I was pulling out of my driveway when I noticed the warning light to "service airbags" I went to the dealer who said it is not a recall so far. They wanted $110. 00 just to check for the problem, but did not include labor if needed. This is a safety issue and should be a recall free to owners!!.
The air bag warning light is on at all times and "service air bag" appears in the driver information center and must be cleared after each start. The issue has been determined to be a faulty passenger presence sensor located in the bottom of the passenger seat. This has now rendered the passenger airbag inoperative at all times and possibly affects the safe operation of the entire srs system. After doing some research online, this is a very, very common problem with the Saturn Skys and pontiac solstices. It is very expensive to fix (around $800-$1000 for parts and labor) and apparently the replacement part has an equally short life expectancy and seems to develop the exact same problem for most of those that have replaced it thus far (according to research done online). This creates a very dangerous situation particularly since these 2 seat cars are quite small with plastic body components therefore making the airbags a necessity in a collision. Gm, as well as their dealers are very aware of this problem but appear to be doing nothing to remedy the situation. Clearly it is NHTSA's duty to force their hand and make them recall these cars and replace these parts with a redesigned part that will work properly and that has an acceptable service life!.
The passenger air bag warning light came on. The message center warned of air bag error. Note: many Saturn Sky cars are reporting this flaw. This car had only 24,500 miles on it. It has never been abused. It has less than 26,000 miles on it now. Is this a recall? can onstar trigger this notice?.
Car is 2007 model with <20,000 miles and has air bag warning light coming on. The car is rarely used and is garage kept. I see hundreds of complaints online about this safety problem on the Saturn Sky. Gm should warn the public owners and do a recall to fix this dangerous safety problem.
Service airbag warning light went off, this should be warranty issue.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that the passenger's side air bag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.
I'm a single woman, and hardly anyone ever sits in my passenger seat. The "service air bag" light has come on out of nowhere. No one was sitting in the car when the warning light goes on. Nothing heavy (besides a few groceries from time to time) has ever been put in the seat.
Warning light shows airbag needs to be serviced with no crash incident. Dealer will not fix or recall without large fee. I noticed lots of other recalls for same part on other gm cars.
Driving 35 miles an hour I noticed passenger side airbag warning light appeared on dash, when I took car to gm dealer they said it would cost 900 dollars to replace.
Passenger seat airbag warning light stays off, does not go to on position when seat is occupied. Service airbag soon warning light appears on instrument panel. Had system diagnosed , found that the pass. Seat presence module is faulty. And needs to be replaced,. This is a critical safety issue and not, an isolated issue with these vehicles and should be recalled by gm and replaced at no cost to me. Please do the right thing and correct this issue!!.
Tl - the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 37,000. Dr.
Although I rarely have passengers, for some odd reason, my passenger airbag warning light randomely went on. After searching the internet for causes/solutions, I see that this is a common occurrence for these types of cars. There's even a movement with Sky and solstice owners who have this issue to com here and file this form (which is how I found it). This issue wouldn't be so intolerable, if the solution wasn't so expensive (over $1000 for a sensor/module repair - $356. 43 for parts and a whopping $647. 50 in labor). This needs to be corrected and I hope this form is part of the solution. Thank you!.
Service air bag warning light for no apparent reason.
For 7 months the warning light on the passenger side air bag has been on. I called onstar to test the car and they said to to take the car in immediately. I spent $1000. 00 repairing the air bag. There have been several hundred complaints about the same issue with other Saturn Sky owners.
The contact owns a 2009 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that the passenger¿s side air bag warning light illuminated with the seat occupied. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the air bag module sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the air bag sensor would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
In 2011 my airbag service warning light came on. I had it repaired at no cost since it was under warranty. Today, October 12, 2014, the airbag service warning light came on again. The car has less than 45,000 miles and is no longer under warranty. I feel this is a real safety issue and definitely some kind of defect. I feel that I should not be responsible for this cost. I have done research and found other Saturn Sky owners have had the same problem. I am wondering why there has been no recall for this issue. In addition, I received a recall letter for the ignition problem and have been waiting months for parts to come in. Thank you.
Air bag warning light came on and passenger side air bag light says off. This is the second time. The first time the passenger seat sensor was replaced under warranty.
In 2009, the passenger side airbag sensor began to intermittently fail to detect the presence of a passenger. The passenger restraint light sometimes registered "off", even when passenger was present. Because it was intermittent, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. In 2014, the failure became ever-present, with additional warning lights on the dashboard, the driver information system, and an audible warning chime on ignition start. Repeated calls to gm have had no results. The company line is that the car is out of warrantee, and the product line has been discontinued. The cost of repair is substantial, approaching $1,000, for an airbag sensor module located beneath the passenger seat. Although a common problem for the 2007 Saturn Sky and pontiac solstice cars, gm says that this is not a safety issue deserving a recall.
