Air Bag Problems of Saturn SKY - part 1

The passenger seat air bag sensor was recalled. I took the car to dealer and they said they fixed the recall. Now 3 years later, if a passenger sits in the seat the light comes on saying air bag sensor is on one second later the light says the air bag sensor is off and the red air bag light in the dash comes on. -should gm be responsible to repair it again at no charge ?.

This is a 2007 Saturn Sky base. The gm recall is # 17036. Every time I contact a gm dealer for getting this recall taken care of, I am told they cannot get the parts, or that there is not any recall on this vehicle ! the first notice I rec'd for this recall is dated April 2017. I want to get this done and taken care ofz. This has gone on long enough !!!.

I just bought this Saturn Sky a month ago with 9,000. 0 miles on it. Yesterday I got the airbag needs serviced light for the passenger seat. So now we have no airbag for a passenger. I know this is apparently a huge problem with the Sky’s.

As stated in previous complaint my air bag has failed again. Why is gm allowed to fix these with the exact same system that fails again?.

The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the module kit, the OCS sensor, and the four retainers were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags); however, the vehicle had experienced the failure stated in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Air bag warning light remains on. Understand that gm issued a recall for this safety hazard that I never received.

Air bag sensor warning, was fixed under recall by previous owner sensor warning came back g. M was going to fix it again but was waiting for parts, I bought the car but I live in ohio not the state I bought the in, I called the g. M dealer in ohio and they told me I would have to pay for this same recall that the g. M dealer in the other state said they'd take care of it! it's an airbag problem with the Sky's and solitise and should be covered by g. Had recall# 17036 performed for pps system and dealer could not clear fault codes after adding tape to the pps seat. Why will the dealer not complete the recall by making sure the faults are no longer present. 1- 004a-00 communication fault 2- 0033-00 internal electronic performance 1 3- 0031-00 internal electronic performance 2 4- 0039-00 internal electronic performance 1 5- 0034-00 internal electronic performance 1 6- 0059-00 preload failure region 1.

Saturn Sky - passenger presence system (pps) knapp chevy claimed to have fixed completed: 2020-10-31, but warning lights appeared and took the car in to check. Now, this issue is not covered and requires a 1200 dollar charge, which should be covered in the recall.

I recently purchased this Saturn Sky. It has only 18000 miles on it air bag service light just came on after only driving 300 miles. It doesn't have any recall to be repaired. It appears its already been fixed but I have to pay $979. 00 for a repeat repair.

Vehicle was identified for recall for passenger airbag system failure, and supposedly repaired or fixed. Called about the recall as the problem has shown up again as the repair is using the same parts that failed before causing the reason for the recall to begin with. Vehicle has a total of 43,000 miles as of this writing. Why was the recall using the same part instead of a correct repair? the condition allows for a failure of this system at anytime, but required to function by law. In addition the repair or reoccurring and ongoing repair due to poor design and defective design and construction with a system that does not work and will not pass inspection. Awaiting your response for correction action of ongoing problem.

Vehicle only has 5000 miles on it purchased new in 2009 has ignition problem and airbag service problem.

The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously serviced under the NHTSA campaign number: 17v061000 (air bags); for which a temporary repair was performed, but later the manufacturer refused to permanently repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,500.

The contact owns a 2009 Saturn Sky. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the passenger's side air bag and electronic brake control module (ebcm) warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the passenger's side air bag and ebcm needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the ebcm; however, the passenger's side air bag was not replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

I received a recall notice for my Saturn Sky's airbag system in the mail. There was no service light on in my car, and I did not have any known problems, however, to be safe I took my car in. Now the service airbag light is on in my car and I am told that the part that was supposed to be fixed needs to be replaced. If it had been properly repaired or the part replaced when I took it in for the recall, I should not need to pay over $800 to replace it now. I read that the recall only required a piece of tape to be applied. A band aid? what kind of a recall does this?.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front passenger’s side air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the vehicle had previously been serviced by the dealer under NHTSA campaign number: 17v061000 (air bag). The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.

Passenger airbag sensor has failed again after being fixed from the first recall.

Ignition was replaced under recall and now the passenger air bag light is on and will not go out and passenger side airbag is inop. Abs ecm failed and replacement cost was $1300. 00 this is a known issue and should be investigated. Thank you pamela heos.

Recall failure of airbag seat occupancy sensor. The car was taken to authorized dealer in 2018 for the recall. The sensor failed in 2021. The recall did not replace the seat sensor but only added reinforcement tape. In 2021 the air bag lights came on. An authorized dealer investigation found the airbag seat sensor had failed. Gm was notifed through the dealer and replied the warranty was over and they are not responsible for the recall repair after the warranty period. The recall rectification appears to be poorly designed leading to eventual failure of the sensor leaving passengers unprotected. . Please follow-up with gm on this issue. I'm sure thousands of cars are affected.

Passenger presence seat sensor stop working and disabled passenger air bags due to issue from previous recall that was supposed to be fix.

I brought my 2007 Saturn Sky in for recall repair of passenger seat airbag presence system. . . . The dealership added 4 retaining clips and a reinforcement strip to the passenger seat as part of the recall. Now my airbag warning light is always on and my dashboard info system says ' service airbag' the passenger seat sensor was never replaced as the recall states it should have been.

The recall that gm did was supposed to fix the problem but did not. I have a 07 Saturn Sky redline. And was serviced for recall # 17036 or NHTSA recall number 17v061000 three years ago. This recall was due to the faulty passenger pressure module gm part number 84447741. I bought the car in to the dealer and waited two months for a no, and then call the Saturn customer service recall line and talked with camile. I explained that due to covid and no place to go the car has been driven a little over 3,000 miles and approximately my wife who weighs 130 pounds has set in the seat for 500 miles. Camile stated that due to the 1-year recall warranty for the passenger pressure module no matter how my miles it was driven. I informed camile that when my wife sits in the seat the passenger airbag switches on and off constantly and that the recall that gm did was supposed to fix the problem but did not that I hope she understood that. I am the second owner and bought the car with 32000 miles, the passenger pressure module has been changed three times since I have owned the car.

In 2019 I took my car in for a recall I had received. It was for the pps. Instead of replacing the faulty system, they simply put a "reinforcement" piece of tape over the faulty system. I rarely drive the car and I rarely have passengers. 2 years and almost 5k miles later, now the faulty system is broken. The sensor in the seat has failed. No surprise there. The dealership is trying to charge me $1400 to replace the faulty sensor that should have been replaced 2 years ago. This is causing anyone who possible is a passenger in my car to be at risk, since now that the sensor is broken, the air bag will not deploy. Other people with this car have had or are having the same issue. I do not understand why a tape fix was approved and implemented for something so serious as the safety of my passengers.

The passenger seat airbag sensor has failed for a second time. This issue was the subject of a gm recall 17036 dated may 2017. Under this recall my seat sensor failure was corrected. This car is driven very little (about 2000 miles per year average) and 99 percent of the time with no passenger. Battle field Chevrolet says the warranty for the recall has expired and gave a written quote r. O. 6030264/1 dated 4/12/21 of $792. 88 to repair/correct the failure. I have paper copies of the recall notice and the reference quote. This is a vehicle safety issue. A passenger would be at risk riding in the seat until repaired. The vehicle cannot pass the annual state safety inspection until corrected. This is a design flaw on the part of general motors and should again be repaired at no expense to the vehicle owner.

My 2007 Saturn Sky automobile had a airbag/ safety recall (recall # 17036) which I had shearer Chevrolet sout burlington, vermont preform. They only did part of the recall and within 4000 miles (10 months) of them doing the work the module kit which they were suppose to replace but didn't as part of the recall failed and I was forced to pay over $900 out of pocket to have the repair done again including replacing the module kit (gm part number #84447741). I lost the use of the car over 2 months this summer 2020 due to the fact that the car was uninspectable with this problem. Lamoille valley Chevrolet hyde park, vermont (802-888-4942) performed the second repair on the vehicle.

Check airbag system light message is on and there is a similar issues on this car's twin 2007 pontiac solstice which has a recall but the dealer won't fix the same issue on this car and wants over a $1000. This car has never been in an accident im the second owner and it's been kept in a dry storage. It has 33k miles.

This light comes on and off random. Been doing this since I had the car. In many forums there is a lot of the same complaints.

Passenger air bag recall 17036 issue after the temporary fix with the same issue but the $1200 module kit needing to be replaced. This issue is for the passengers being at risk when riding in the car. A complete fix of the recall should be completed not a temporary fix. It shouldn't cost the car owner an extreme cost of $1200 for something that should have been fixed in the recall.
