1 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 09/02/2020

I took my 2009 Saturn Sky redline to a gm dealer on 9/18/2018 for gm recall 17036. They performed the work (installed reinforcement), but less than 2 years later, with less than 2500 miles since the repair, the "service airbag" light came on. On 9/2/2020, I took it back to the dealer, who says the passenger seat sensor must be replaced, at a cost to me of $1182. This is a safety issue for which gm should be responsible. The car was barely used since the recall work was done, and it's obvious that the sensor was on the verge of failure at that time. Total mileage on the car now is 25,000.

3 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 06/08/2018

Gm recall 17036 - passenger airbag sensor defect. My sensor failed on 6/8/2018. The local dealer confirmed the failure and ordered parts under the recall on 6/15/2018. As of today, 7/18/2018, the part is still not available and no eta is provided. Gm refuses to reimburse me if I have the vehicle repaired or provide them with a genuine gm part for them to provide the repair. This is a recall that is not being addressed by gm and I am left with an unsafe car and no eta on repair.

Faulty airbag sensor, will not pass va state safety inspection. I have gotten numerous tickets due to this issue. Need a recall today!!!!!! this is just ridiculous.

9 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 10/24/2016

The passenger seat sensor for the air bag failed. This problem has been reported before. This should be under recall. With the number of complaints that you have received why has then not happened.

10 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 09/16/2016

Passenger presence sensor is broken. Now, airbag is inactive no matter if someone is sitting in the seat.

11 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 09/10/2016

The passenger air bag sensor has been intermittent for the last year and on a recent trip failed to function during actual driving, disabling the air bag, turned on the "service airbag" display and light and would not clear. This occurred several times and then became permanent. The seat was occupied and it was a intermittent failure that became permanent. Since the fairlure occurred while away from home and on the weekend, took the vehicle to a shop who read the code (b0081) tried to further diagnose the failure and then indicated the most probable cause was the ppu unit (whatever that is) there were none available locally so drove the car home (columbus OH to dallas, TX) and parked it being careful with my driving as my wife was in the passenger seat. Doing internet searches indicated that this is a common problem with the car and gm has refused to acknowledge it because the car is no longer in production even though the problem existed during the actual production cycle. Why does g?m not recall the car with an obvious safety defect that can affect lives??.

12 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 07/12/2016

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. While the vehicle was stationary, the passenger air bag sensor remained illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 55,000.

13 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 07/12/2016

Passenger seat pressure sensor failure. Failure is stationary and while moving.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 06/05/2016

The issue is the airbag control system. The sensor for the passenger seat is faulty and will prevent the airbag from being deployed. Gm acknowledges this problem, but says parts are not available. However they are readily available from many sources including ebay so their claim is without merit! I can not safely drive this vehicle knowing my passenger's safety is compromised. Please compel gm to fix this problem now. Parts are available!!!!.

15 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 04/16/2016

I get a "service air bag" message when I start the car. This was previously repaired in 2011 after I got the same message at that time. This is a problem with the passenger air bag and it has been diagnosed as the air bag sensor module needs to be replaced. I understand from web searches that this problem is occurring often for this model of the Saturn Sky.

16 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Passenger seat airbag sensor inoperable. Makes whole airbag system inoperable. With adult riding passenger in the passenger seat, passenger airbag off light is illuminated.

18 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 02/19/2016

Typical engineered problems @ low mileage: seat air bag sensor, dash info lights, check engine light and extremely noisy ac system. A recall would be nice, but the car is an orphan. (a discontinued vehicle, with little support. ) safe at any speed ?.

19 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 02/03/2016

Failure of passenger seat weight sensor/module - "service air bag" and "passenger airbag off" lights illuminate.

20 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Saturn SKY

The passenger seat passenger presence sensor failed, and had to be replaced.

21 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 07/09/2015

My 2008 Saturn Sky only has 44,000 miles on it. I bought the extended warranty but because I garage it in bad weather it is no longer under warranty. I am paying 1100. 00 this week to replace the passenger air bag sensor. This is ridiculous that I am paying for something this important when the car still has the original tires on it because it is so well taken car of. The only reason I am paying this is because of the importance of safety and this should be a gm problem not mine. Shame on gm, since other cars with this issue have been recalled.

22 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 07/06/2015

This is in reference to the faulty air bag sensor in the seats of the Saturn Sky's and pontiac solstice. A known defect in the air bag sensor in the seats is leading to an expensive fix for gm owners. The "service air bag" light illuminates due to a faulty craftsmanship in the seat sensor. This could possibly cause the airbag system to not function properly. It is a widespread problem with these cars and really started to take place for a lot of people after the ignition recall. The replacement part and labor is costing around $900 for the repair of one seat when the parts can be ordered form germany for around $80. Gm knows and really needs to address this issue before this malfunction causes some type of bodily harm.

23 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

The passenger presence sensor has failed in my vehicle. Any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is prohibitively costly (my estimate from the dealership is $800) to do this repair. Given the frequency of this identical failure across this vehicle platform, I find it to be a manufacturer's defect and request their assistance.

24 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 05/21/2015

Passenger seat occupancy sensor failed. It is a known issue with these cars and gm has done nothing about it.

25 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 05/19/2015

Passenger seat airbag sensor failed. Vehicle was stationary. Warning on dash.

26 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

As with every other Saturn Sky out there the passenger seat airbag sensor has failed. As everyone else has said , you guys are full of it ,you will wait until people die with this issue. It is a safety problem step up and recall it.

27 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 04/19/2015

Air bag passenger present module in passenger seat has failed giving an error code. This is a known problem on Saturn Skys as the forums have several reports of similar failures. I see that BMW has just issued a recall for these sensors. The Saturn Sky and pontiac solstice should also be recalled.

28 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 02/17/2015

Passenger occupancy seat sensor failed. Gm will not cover the $1000 repair even though this is part of the safety/airbag system and a known failure with many vehicles.

29 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

The passenger seat air bag sensor has failed. If you do research you will see a high percentage of Saturn Sky's and it's sister platform car the pontiac solstice has had numerous failures due to a defective sensor module. Other manufactures that use the same module (like BMW) have issued recalls on this safety issue. If you compel gm to provide you with the number of repairs they have done on these cars you will see that the failure is wide spread and happens even on low mileage rarely used cars. Gm should has failed to respond to this safety issue and should be forced to do a recall on the passenger airbag seat sensor.

30 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 12/26/2014

Airbag sensor has failed for second time in two years.

31 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the air bag sensor light had illuminanted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the passenger seat sensor was faulty. The seat cushion was replaced and the failure was remedied. The contact indicated that approximately 12,000 miles later the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 33,000. Jft.

32 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Dashboard message center indicating a "service air bag" message when car is started. Receive the message every time key is turned on. . . I understand from other owners of the Saturn Sky this is a common issue related to the passenger side seat sensor. Gm will not cover the cost to replace the sensor, even though it is a part of the vehicle safety system. The failure of this component should not be considered a normal "wear and tear" component and/or a periodic maintenance issue. Gm has issued recalls on other gm models with the same or similar issues, so why not the Saturn Sky. It seems gm needs government intervention and/or lawsuits, before it will take action. As a Sky owner I should not have to be concerned whether or not my air bag will deploy, due to a defect in a safety system. A car owner¿s expectation is the air bag system will function properly for the life of the vehicle, just like the expectation the seat belt will function properly during the life of the vehicle.

33 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

Driving home from the store and the service airbag warning came on and now the passenger airbag will not function. Looking on the internet this seems to be a common occurrence with a very important piece of safety equipment. I feel that with the large number of problems occurring with the the passanger seat sensor that there should be a recall.

34 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

2007 Saturn Sky recently, a light came on the dashboard which read "service air bag. " the consumer was informed by a reputable auto garage shop, the vehicle needed a sensor which activated the air bag, at a cost of $800 plus, and after the repair was completed, he would need to take the vehicle to the dealer to be reprogrammed at an additional cost of approximately $125. 00. The consumer went to the dealer, and was informed the sensor would cost $ 1,692. 00. The consumer declined the repairs. The consumer went online and discovered, the 2009 model was recalled for the same issue.

35 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Saturn SKY

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

The air bag sensor in my vehicle came on two days after dealer repaired the ignition recall. And I took it back and was informed that it would have to be replaced at my expense . Service manager informed me that is very common in this vehicle. I have owned gm vehicles for 25 years and never had a problem like this. In fact I have a 01 durmax that has 375 thousand miles and air bags system has never faulted. You do realize any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($800-$ 1000. 00), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle. I have been on many threads where thousands of people are having this problem. This is my daily driver and I have passengers in this vehicle daily and ,I feel your company is putting myself as well as my passengers at risk of injury.
