The airbag detection system, which are housed in seat sensors in the passenger front seat have failed.
My airbag sensor quit working. At this low mileage there should not be an issue. Now my car is out of warranty and I'm forced to pay to have it fixed out of pocket. From my research this appears to be a common issue. I encourage the NHTSA to investigate the issue and have gm recall vehicles with a similar issue. It is for the safety of the public.
Air bag seat sensor failure will not pass safety inspection in my state. Va.
I have had 2 Saturn Sky's, both have randomly disabled their airbags while driving due to a faulty sensor in the passenger seat. When I went online I found this is a common problem and even read news broadcasts about this specific sensor failing. The following website is one of those stories. My dealership has stated that it is not a recall matter. . Read more...
Sensor in passenger seat.
The passenger airbag sensor came on. This should be part of the gm recall before somebody gets hurt or killed.
Service air bag warning is activated due to a defective sensor which results in air bag not functioning properly or being deployed in the event of an accident. This is an obvious safety concern that should be addressed by recall.
I went into a parking lot and over a speed bump with a passenger in the car. As soon as we went over the speed bump the light on my dash that shows an airbag being deployed lit up. Now the dealership says the passenger presence module for the passenger air bag is bad. Since this is a "Smart" airbag system the module has to be changed and calibrated at the dealer. This was one of a very few time I've had a passenger in my car and seems beyond comprehension that this sensor would break with such limited use and cost $1000 to replace. I have found through my research that many thousands of gm products are having very similar issues with very similar cost to repair. Sure seems like gm knows there is a problem but has found that it's more profitable to keep replacing them at the owners cost!.
At 39600 miles the passenger airbag sensor failed.

Passenger seat module sensor not functioning (according to warning on dashboard), which in turn will not activate the air bags in a vehicle collision. I can not understand why general motors has not done a recall on this continuing problem for most years of the pontiac solstice and the Saturn Sky models. This is an ongoing major safety issue that gm is aware of. Please facilitate a response from gm to rectify this urgent situation.

The "service air bag" message started to intermittently display. My understanding is that it is a faulty passenger presence sensor (pps), and that gm will not pay for the repair or issue a recall.
I had my 2007 Saturn Sky inspected, and the check air bag sensor came on. The vehicle has 17, 000 miles and has never been wrecked. It lives in a garage.
The air bag seat sensor in my vehicle failed and any passenger in the car faces risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($700 - $1000), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle. I think because of all the complaints about this it is a problem and may cause someone to get really hurt. Left defective could be really serious to a passenger.
The air bag seat sensor (pps) in my vehicle failed only 12 mos after its 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty expired. Any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($700 - $1000), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle.
The passenger seat airbag sensor has failed in my car. This has resulted in a condition in which the passenger air bag is permanently disabled, a potential large safety hazard. After researching this issue, it appears as though this is a common problem among the Saturn Sky and pontiac solstice cars, and there is no outstanding recall to remedy this issue. There are many of these cars on the road today that are operating without a functional passenger air bag, putting passengers are significantly greater risk for injury in the event of a collision. Given the prevalence of this issue, its severity, and the cost to repair, I feel as though a safety recall is should be considered for these models.
The passenger air bag is not on. There seems to be a defective sensor problem in the seat. According to many posts on the internet, this a very prevalent problem with the Saturn Sky and the pontiac solstice. Why has there not been a manufacturer's recall for this problem? it certainly is a safety hazard to the passenger.
Passenger presence module-service air bag warning is activated and comes on periodically due to a defective sensor which results in air bag not functioning properly or being deployed in the event of an accident. This is an obvious safety concern that gm is aware of and has been recalled in other model cars except for the Saturn Sky and pontiac solstice. It is a major safety concern and one that should be addressed by recall.
The Saturn Sky was purchased with a failed sensor on the passenger side seat for the airbag. Upon research I discovered that this is a known issue with the Saturn Sky and pontiac solstice. It affects multiple years and gm has known about it since it started happening. Yet upon review there has not been a recall issued for this problem. This is clearly a safety issue in regards to the safety of the passenger in a two seat car. Gm is now issuing recalls for almost everything and I have read multiple reports to your organization in regards to the airbag sensor problem, but gm does nothing. When is this issue going to be taken seriously? I wish I had the statistics on how many have been injured or killed due to this failed sensor so I could include that.
Air bag sensor in passenger seat is defective. Light comes on, indicating sensor problem. This makes it impossible to pass safety inspections in the state of virginia. Looking at $800 to replace what appears to be a known problem in these cars.
The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Sky. The contact stated that the air bag sensor light constantly illuminated. The manufacturer was notified who stated there was no recall and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 72,000.
The passenger air bag sensor failed. I have read that this is common in Sky and solstice vehicles. Even when they are repaired, they fail again. $800 repair . . . So my passenger is traveling with no airbag at all times.
The air bag sensor in my vehicle failed shortly after its 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty expired. Any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($500 - $800), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle.
Air bag sensor located in passenger seat, gm part #19124219 was defective and disabled air bags. This part is routinely defective in the kappa-model roadsters, Saturn Sky and pontiac solstice.
Passenger airbag sensor is broken. I replaced it once and the entire seat once.
Failure of passenger seat seat sensor, once covered under extended warranty, and now has failure again. Car has less than 25000 miles on it. Pps failed first time at 8100 miles.
Passanger air bag sensor.
The passenger air bag sensor in my vehicle failed shortly (2 mos) after its 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty expired. Any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. It is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($500 - $800), and that the early failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle.
Air bag sensor for passenger airbag is faulty after ~5k miles of someone sitting in the seat. Numerous other Saturn Sky owners, especially 2007 owners have this problem.
I own a 2007 Saturn Sky and have for 31/2 years in that time there hasnt been anybody in the passenger seat maybe a total of 4 months. My passenger seat airbag sensor has already gone bad and I know on the Skyroadster and the sollstice forums there have been several more. The sensor I think is made by nippondenso and installed on the 2006-2009 Sky/solstice's I dont expect gm to spend a ton of money replacing them but they could at least come up with a mod so the airbag is on all the time or go after nippondenso for a inferior product. I really think they should last longer then a few months and want gm to do something about it!! thank you rick leslie email rick. Leslie@delta. Com cell 612-220-6531.
