5 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 08/19/2016

I was going less than ten miles per hour on city streets and tried to stop at a stoplight when my brakes failed. My foot was flooring the brake and I continued to roll into the cross walk and part of the intersection before putting my car into reverse to make it stop as it felt like the gear changed to neutral with the way I was rolling. Luckily the oncoming traffic remained stopped when this incident occurred. My car was serviced 6 days prior to the incident by my local Subaru dealership with no report of any brake issues.

9 Brakes Failed problem of the 2010 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 11/06/2010

We experienced brake failure twice on a trip 11/4/10 - 11/6/10. The first incident occurred on 11/4 while using cruise control. To slow for a vehicle in front of us, I hit the brake pedal. The brakes were not responsive and the cruise control remained active. Pumping the brake pedal in a few seconds deactivated the cruise control and the brakes returned. This occurred with a noticeable jerk. The second incident occurred 11/6 while on heading east on rt 30 coming down sidling hill. The cruise control was not in use. While attempting to brake to reduce speed going down the hill, the brakes completely failed. Repeated attempts to use the brake pedal failed to provide any braking. I used the parking brake to slow us down; however, the parking brake did not seem very effective. It took a considerable distance to come to a stop. I proceeded down the hill in a lower gear and at some point the brakes returned to use. There does not appear to be any reason as to why they failed or how or why they returned. The car has over 20,000 miles on it and this was the first incident of brake failure; although the situation with the cruise not deactivating had occurred once before. The car was taken to the dealer on 11/7. The dealer checked both the cruise and the braking system and found no problems. The dealer reported consulting with Subaru on the problem as well. On 11/12 at the suggestion of the dealer, I contacted Subaru customer service (ref#1-1157948155). Subaru's follow up was that the car was checked and found to be ok and we should drive it and see if it happens again. This was not acceptable and we opted for a replacement vehicle at considerable out of pocket expense. This vehicle should not be sold to someone else. It should be returned to Subaru to determine what caused the failures described.

10 Brakes Failed problem of the 2006 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 02/20/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Subaru Forester. On February 20, 2009, while attempting to pull into the driveway at less than 6 mph, the hydraulic brakes failed. The brake pedal extended to the floor board and the vehicle began to jerk and accelerate on its own. The vehicle crashed into a tree and the frontal air bags deployed. The contact sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. A police report was filed. Her sternum was broken and she suffered major lacerations and bruises to her knees and legs. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were less than 25,400. Updated 8/3/09 the consumer stated no police report was filed. Updated 08/05/09.

11 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Subaru Forester

Failure Date: 01/18/2008

I parked facing downwards on a steep hill . After about 1 1/2 hrs. Returned to my new 2008 Subaru Forester ll bean with less than 610 miles and felt something wrong with the brake--it was flat on the floor. The car picked up speed (two successive 15% grade hills); I braked, down shifted and could not slow the car down. To avoid hitting a car in front of me, I drove into the oncoming traffic lane. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic. After a terrifying ride for over half a mile, ended up hitting two curbs, street sign, fire hydrant & ended up in a soggy meadow. Lots of damage to car but my passenger and I got away without a scratch. After the crash the brake was no longer on the floor. However, the car hasn't been driven for a road test because we are still awaiting parts to come from japan. Have you heard of any recent incidents involving total brake failures on late model Subarus?.
