2 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 09/10/2020

The airbag indicator sometimes indicates "off" when a passenger is sitting in the front passenger seat. This is inconsistent and is a real safety issue. Obviously dangerous to the passenger if the airbag does not deploy because the airbag system does not recognize that there is a passenger sitting in the front passenger seat. This is serious and needs to be addressed. Fyi: this happens on start up or while the engine is running and a passenger gets in the front seat.

6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2016 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/08/2019

While car was slowing in a parking lot area, turning and braking (have witness to attest to this), it had sua (sudden unintended acceleration) as I was about to park and the vehicle went over a curb and through a building wall in less than 10 seconds. The air bags did not deploy. This car also had a recent recall involving the electrical brake system lights/sensors. There was no alcohol, pills or anything of that sort involved and nor was a cell phone in play and no distractions. The car was being parked, as is the case everyday and there was a jolt of acceleration as I was doing so, which in turn caused confusion and panic. My foot was not on the acceleration as this happened. I am very fortunate that no one was hurt. Although, seeing how I have never been involved in a wreck before, this has all been very traumatic. (driving for almost 20 years) I have notified my insurance and Subaru about what happened. Hopefully they can shed some light on the situation so it won't happen to anyway one else. The other people that it has happened to, upon research, my heart goes out to them.

7 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 05/20/2019

I was driving straight on a city street and the airbag light came on, I don't know why, but I do know the airbags will not deploy if I get into a accident. The car only has 95000 miles on it seems like a defect, never own a vehicle that had this happen.

8 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2017 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 04/15/2019

I've had Subarus my whole life and am a loyal consumer. Recently I was involved in an accident. My car was hit in the front on the passenger side. I'm including a photo to show you the damage to my 2017 Impreza. It was totaled and thankfully, I was not hurt. The airbags did not deploy. In light of the recent information that was released by the nhsta concerning airbags not deploying, I feel I need to bring this to your attention. I will be sending the same information to the nhsta. I realize in certain instances airbags do not deploy and perhaps this is one of those times. However I would feel irresponsible if I did not bring this to your attention. The claim was handled and the VIN number is . 4s3gtad63h3724849. (this email was sent to Subaru).

11 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 03/31/2018

We were broadsided (t-boned) in an intersection with traffic lights. We were eastbound going 25mph & had just left home. Two blocks from my home as I proceeded through the green light and bam she hit my driver side. Recessing my front tire 3 or more inches in towards my engine. She was traveling southbound on the intersecting road. She must have been traveling 25 mph or more because damage continued all the way down the driver side (both doors) finishing on my rear tire where it bent it inwards as if it was a steering tire making a turn. The rear tire has a large gash in the side wall. The following where my wife's injuries as she was driving: acute cervical myofascial strain, cervical strain, closed head injury, dysarthria, elbow contusion, headache, muscle tension headache, post concussion syndrome, and shoulder contusion. She received all these injuries because the side impact airbags did not deploy which has to be a major manufacturing flaw of some type. Please explain to me why this happened. The insurance adjuster has totaled my wife's car. It is a 2012 Subaru Impreza premium. I have included some documents/photos.

12 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2016 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/07/2017

My 16 year old daughter was driving traveling at approximately 40mph on a ciity street when a deer jumped in front of her. She swerved to miss the deer, leaving the road and entering a heavely wooded lot. She came to a stop approximately six feet off the road stopped by a tree dead center in the front bumper. Even though she was traveling approximately 40 mph, never locked up the brakes, and her rear pumper was only six feet off the road, the air bags never deployed.

13 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/27/2017

I was driving down the interstate highway with my mother in the passenger seat when I suddenly noticed that the airbag light on the dashboard had come on. I then looked at the passenger airbag sensor light and noticed that it was in the "off" position. It concerned me that my passenger was not being detected by the airbag sensor, especially considering that I was driving at a speed of 65 mph. We continued to our destination and then shut off the car and restarted it to see if the airbag sensor would detect my passenger, which it did not. After this incident, I brought the car to my dealership service center and was told that the sensor in the seat was faulty and, as a result, the entire seat bottom needed to be replaced, at a cost of about $1000. They claimed that the sensor can be rendered ineffective by liquid spills, though I have no recollection of ever spilling anything liquid on the passenger seat of this car. . Read more...

14 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/19/2017

The airbag sensor recall was performed on my vehicle, but the indicator light continue to malfunction. The dealership where the car is currently being serviced says they have 3-4 other 2012 Subaru Imprezas with the same post-recall problem. The only fix they recommend is replacing the entire module under the seat which they quoted as an $800 fix. The problem with the airbag sensor is exactly what is listed on the initial recall where the light turns to "off" when a passenger is sitting in the seat and something is plugged into the power outlet or they move around in the seat. This is a serious safety issue as it could cause the airbag not to deploy if a crash were ever to happen.

15 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/26/2016

Takata air bag did not deploy. Side impact sensor did not work. The car traveled sideways into a large oak tree in excess of 35 mph . The point of impact was where the side impact sensor was located . None of the airbags deployed . Subaru has been very uncooperative with answers as to why the airbags did not deploy . This happened upon a rural road in the fog . No other vehicles were involved .

18 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 12/19/2015

Falsification of recall service work performed for recall wqt-55 that is related to the air bag not deploying based on an issue w/ the occupant detection system. Waldorf Subaru states they performed that they didn't do. Subaru has been extremely slow an unresponsive in addressing this issue. My car was originally taken to waldorf Subaru to have the recall performed, after which I had a service work order indicating it was complete. I receive a phone call 2 days later from the parts manager indicating the "part that was needed for the recall is now in stock. " as a second check, I took my vehicle to another Subaru location (herb gordon Subaru/mile one) to check it out and verify if the recall had been in fact fixed, this proved that it had not been fixed. I obtained a service work order with these details. I contacted Subaru to have them address this, and they have been slow to respond and have been unresponsive to the concerns that have been raised. Their internal complaint number has been opened to address this issue: sr #:1-17536427192.

19 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/22/2015

Passenger air bag lights turns off after some time driving with a 200 lb passenger in the passenger seat. The light starts off on and turns off meaning the air bag will not deploy. Subaru dealer reviewed problem and did not find anything wrong except for some historical wet sensor error codes. This is unsafe as as the air bag won't deploy if I have a crash. I have the dealer paperwork where they tested it and did nothing !!.

20 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/10/2015

To whom it may concern my son has a 2014 Subaru Impreza . Leased brand new. While driving home from the beach and after drying off the passenger noticed that the air bag deployment light was not on. I took the car to the dealer in ramsey new jersey …invoice 244854 . They had the technicians look at the car and what they told us was very upsetting and seems ridiculous . If the passenger seat is the least bit damp the air bag will not deploy. I have in writing from Subaru, owner’s manual page 1-47. So if there is a child that is a passenger and he spills a soda or even water there could be a problem. How many passenger drink coffee on their way to work. The advice from Subaru is that if the seat gets wet have the passenger sit in the back until it totally dries. What ? this is an accident waiting to happen…. Remember takata. I can’t believe a company like Subaru cannot fix this problem, I understand that it may also be an issue with the outback and forester. All models if true are advertized for the out doors.

22 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 03/04/2015

When a passenger sits on passenger seat the air bag light does not go on indicating air bag engaged. I am fearful that if I did have a crash that the air bag would not deploy and passsenger get seriously injured or die.

26 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 05/28/2013

Followed too closely through a double intersection with a non-functioning light. Police officer directed traffic through the intersection but apparently we had to stop before the second intersection. Apparently I slowed down enough that the airbag did not deploy. I indicated 20 but surely my airbag would have deployed at that speed. Was able to drive the car under its own power off the road into a subway parking lot. As I was maneuvering into a parking spot the engine caught on fire. It seems strange to me that if I was going slow enough for the airbag not to deploy but for some components to catch on fire that the car is road worthy. Worth looking into?.

27 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 05/08/2013

I was involved in an accident while driving my recently acquired 2013 Subaru Impreza, where another driver hit my vehicle in a side impact on the driver side front wheel and driver door (I can send the pictures via email). The good news is that I was able to get out on the other side of the vehicle. The bad news is that the side air bags did not deploy, and this was also noted by the emergency crew who arrived on the scene. I believe that this may be a design flaw or defect that Subaru engineers need to have a closer look at.

28 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 02/20/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Subaru Impreza. The contact had two accidents within a year. In both accidents the contact was braking to come to a stop in traffic and both times it unexpectedly accelerated and rear ended a vehicle in front of her vehicle. A police report was filed in both cases. It was unknown if the other party was injured in both accidents. The contact was not injured. The air bags did not deploy in either of the accidents which both occurred in 2013. The vehicle was towed in the first accident. And contact was travelling at 35 mph. The contact suspects she was sold a vehicle that had multiple issues wrong with it since she purchased it back in 2013. The contact had found out that someone had bought the vehicle and returned it before she purchased it. She had thought before that she had purchased the vehicle brand new. The vehicle was purchased from the dealer autonation Subaru west 16351 w colfax Ave, golden, CO 80401 (303) 578-6120. The failure mileage was 2,000. Tf.

30 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/11/2012

Passenger airbag sensor stated that it was disabled randomly (whether car was in motion or not), even though seat was occupied. Airbag light would illuminate on dashboard. To correct issue, vehicle had to be restarted multiple times, so that airbag would reactivate. This would need to be repeated, as issue recurred multiple times per day. In the case of an accident, airbag most likely would not have deployed due to faulty passenger sensor. Subaru stated airbag module required replacing, after inspection was made.

31 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 03/10/2012

Driving down mountain after day of skiing. Roads were treacherous and icy. 20 minutes into the drive, driver and passenger airbag lights turned on, indicating that airbags would not deploy in the case of a collision. Several months later I was wearing a damp bathing suit while driving and the same situation occurred, indicating that the airbags would not deploy in the event of a collision. On another occaision, I was driving on a hot day with the windows down. I was sweating quite a bit and the airbag light on my Subaru Impreza turned on yet again. This issue was brought up with the dealership while the car was still under warranty. The dealer's service department simply reset the sensor, not solving the issue or comprehending the severity of this issue. The occupant detection sensor in the seat must have faulted and turned off the airbags when a small amount of snow/water/sweat on my rear caused a fault in the elecrostatic sensor. The occupant detection sensor is an electrostatic sensor that will fault when it senses an arbitrary amount of moisture. An internal memo in August 2012 from Subaru to it's dealers in north America acknowledged, but not solved this problem with the airbags not engaging when the seat is wet. From Subaru's internal memo: "when water or anything with high moisture content is spilled on the front passenger seat cushion, the airbag is designed to remain off until the seat cushion is dry".

The other vehicle crashed into the front of the contact's vehicle and the air bags did not deploy. The driver sustained major injuries. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the impact did not meet the specifications that would warrant air bag deployment. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000.

33 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/16/2009

I was involved in a direct head-on mvc traveling 35 mph(at time of impact). The front passenger was wearing the seatbelt appropriately. The airbags did not deploy and the front passenger's head made contact with dash. This passenger did sustain a moderate neck injury presenting the following morning requiring evaluation and treatment in an emergency department. There was significant damage to the front of the car and the car is not drivable.

34 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Subaru Impreza
