Front Air Bag Problems of Subaru Impreza

Passenger air bag will not work in 09 Impreza Subaru; Subaru will fix the car to operate with adult over 100 lbs. Occupant detection system will not ever operate and Subaru feels there is nothing wrong with the vehicle and claims it passed federal safety and claims there is nothing to fix.

The passenger seat airbag in my 2008 Subaru Impreza wrx sti does not turn on when a passenger sits in the seat.

The front passenger airbag off light turns on and off randomly when my wife is in the seat. . . . She is 5ft 2in and 119lbs. Often as we are traveling down the road with her in the front seat the airbag is off. This failure occurs frequently and despite the fact that she is restrained and seated as outlined in the owner's manual. After multiple discussions with the dealer and Subaru customer service we are advised that there is nothing they can do as the car is designed this way. For our purposes this vehicle does not consistently provide the safety benefits of a front impact airbag. . . . . Is the manufacturer not responsible to remedy this?.

The passenger frontal airbag periodically turns off when my girlfriend is sitting in the passenger seat. She weighs approximately 125 lbs and when she is sitting in the passenger seat the passenger frontal airbag will haphazardly change from "on" to "off" when it is supposed to be remaining in the "on" position.

Bought new Subaru 2008 Impreza outback sport wagon- passenger side frontal airbag does not turn on if passenger weighs 100-107 lbs (that is us)and only noticed wk 3 since no passenger until then. Only works with heavier guys. No fix per Subaru. Apparently I see online that there have been earlier complaints of same problem in Subaru for past 2 years, even other models. Why is this not reported or fixed. Other makes do it well for any person >65 lbs.

90 mph head on crash, and neither the driver nor the passenger airbags deployed, resulting in severe hyperextension of the neck and back of the passenger, causing 4 herniated disks, as well as a severe concussion resulting in post concussive disorder with permanent short term memory loss. When Subaru was contacted listing the 2006 Impreza and the above information, we were told that the federal crash test ratings are only for head on collisions with a brick wall, and if we had hit a brick wall then they would be liable-since we hit a guardrail twice and were jettisoned across the street into a shed whose center steel support beam finally stopped the vehicle, they were not. I was travailing 40-45 mph on a 2 lane road in my 2005 Subaru wrx sti. I came out of a small s curve and went over a rough patch of road, and the tail end of the car started sliding out to the right, the next thing I knew I had ran into the bank and I was facing traffic, I hit the bank at least 40 mph, there was a car in front of me and one behind me, and one coming in the other lane of traffic. It felt like the tail of the car had tightened up and sent power to the rear wheels and kept me sliding until right before I hit the bank it swung the car around like it had sent all power to the front witch in turn put me into the bank. Nothing worked. No air bags deployed. The seat belts did not restrain me, I hit my head on the side window because none of the safety features worked on the car I sustained injuries including: whip lash, severe headaches and I may have a fractured a vertebra in my back. Contacted Subaru of America and they blew me off saying that there was no defects in the car, and that they waited till the government told them to fix something before they would fix any problems.

Solo car spin out. . . . Hit a brick wall no airbag deployment in the front end crash. Recieved two head wounds/knee injury/memory loss. Othing done to correct damage or situation.

Vehicle was rear ended and pushed into the rear of vehicle in front. The drivers seat was twisted back toward the back seat as a result of the impact and the air bags did no deploy.

Consumer took his vehicle to a repair shop. Attendant went to steam the motor and to start motor so he could wax and buff vehicle. But, both airbags went off. Consumer wants to know why the airbags went off.

While the vehicle was being detailed the airbags deployed. The person detailing the vehicle sustained minor injuries. When the bags deployed the windshield and dashboard were destroyed. The manufacturer has been notified.
