Passenger side airbag disabled because the under seat sensor is faulty in 2013 Subaru Impreza. The dealer charged me $154. 95 just to read the code to explain the fault. Codes b1760 and b1761 indicate the "sensor mat is abnormal. " tech recommends to replace the passenger seat bottom. The issue is that this costs $1181. 85 to replace. Subaru should issue a recall on this model because many of us are putting our passengers at unreasonable risk due to a faulty sensor installed by Subaru. The cost to replace it is extortionate. I love my car and I hope that Subaru will do the right thing and help restore my trust in their safety record.

At about 30,000 miles the passenger side airbag occupancy sensor failed. It did not detect a passenger present despite an average sized adult being in the seat. The dealer replaced the sensor. The same thing occurred at about 75,000 miles.
In December 2014 and again (twice) in January 2018 I was driving (in motion) with a passenger when the passenger-side airbag system turned off. The only variable I know for the second time was that the passenger was damp from snow-sports. Each time it proved impossible to get the car to recognize a passenger in the front seat, so we had to drive without airbag protection for the passenger. The first time, the Subaru dealership replaced (8/6/15) the passenger seat-bottom with sensor free of charge; they have said they intend to do this again. The service technicians told me that Impreza passenger airbag sensors can turn off when the seat is damp/wet.
Passenger side airbag sensor does not operate properly. Airbag does not turn on when a passenger is sitting in the seat, both when stationary and in motion.
The airbags turn off when it is raining or humid outside. Problems have been experienced when the car was stationary and when the car was in motion. Passenger airbag has turned off when there was a passenger in the seat; driver's side airbag has also turned off during raining/humid conditions. This has happened multiple times over the last few months.

Passenger side air bag consistently turns off when there is a passenger in the front seat. This has happened at both high and low speeds - have noticed it happens all the time when the passenger has damp clothing on. The "passenger airbag off" light will illuminate on the dashboard, and will remain off until the car is turned off and back on. Additional research has led me to believe this has to do with the type of passenger detection associated with the airbag.

According to the dealer, the passenger side air bags in my 2014 Impreza stopped working due to a sensor malfunction after the passenger seat cushion got wet (e. G. , by people sitting in the seat after exercising or getting caught in the rain). An airbag sensor should not disable an airbag because of a wet seat. This is a safety defect, has been widely reported for the 2014 Impreza in online message boards, and is very similar to the defect that precipitated a 2012 Impreza safety recall (recall #wqt-55, safety campaign 15v419000) Subaru should recall the 2014 Impreza and pay for the cost of replacing defective airbag sensors.
Sensor for air bag in passenger seat not working correctly. Works 80% of the time, but will put a warning on my dashboard randomly while I'm driving and disable airbag. It could happen when stationary or driving. Doesn't seem to matter the speed or if anybody is in the seat or not. It's been happening on and off for almost 3 years. Please help, the fix is very expensive and it seems like this is not the first time there have been problems with Subarus passenger side airbag sensors. The k you very much.
Takata recall -- I have a 2006 Subaru. I received a letter from them in March 2017 telling me there was a serious issue regarding the takata passenger side airbags, at that time they informed me that they did not have a fix. It is now October 2017 and I have not received any information from Subaru regarding a fix. What do I do? it concerns the safety of my passengers and quite possibly me as a driver. It is not a effective solution to wait for something to happen. The recall numbers are as follows: Subaru -- tkc17; NHTSA 17v-016.

Airbag fail, drivers side and passenger side. In November of 2016 the icon indicating "passenger airbag fail" starting coming on every time I picked up my son from school on a rainy day or after sports practice. He was not wet, just damp or hot. The icon coming on was totally predictable at first, only under damp conditions, then unpredictable. In speaking to the service person where I bought the car new, I was told that the lit icon was normal, then told that my son didn't weigh enough (he wrestles at 156 lbs). I brought the car to the dealership without an appointment and was able to demonstrate the problem. The passenger seat airbag sensor was eventually replaced replaced under warranty. The problem is now repeating itself with the drivers side airbag fail icon. The dealership was unable to find a problem code when diagnosed. I was told the technician called Subaru tech-support and that he was told that the problem is "normal". I am now told that the sensor can fail when the driver's seat is damp, but will work when it dries out, there is no repair possible. If this is true, I cannot safely drive my car in inclement weather or hot weather. I bought this car specifically for driving in less than ideal weather. The problem with the passenger side airbag sensor was addressed by the NHTSA in April 4015 under action number pe15012, and recall campaign # 15v419000, but I can testify that the problem still exits. It took three days for the drivers side airbag sensor, or icon, to stop showing failed, it stopped raining a day before. It is a highly unsafe situation if it is truly unrepairable.
Takata recall - I finally received acknowledgement from Subaru of America that I have two airbags. . Takata-sourced passenger side frontal airbag and toyoda gosei driver-side airbag located in the center of the steering wheel. The safety recall notice that I received indicates that they will only be replacing the takata-sourced passenger side frontal airbag when parts are available. . . Possibly not until feruary, 2017. Timmons Subaru where I purchased the Subaru stated that they will pay for a rental car, but will not pay for the insurance on the rental car. . . Totally unacceptable. I'm requesting that both manufacturers airbags be removed and do not want them replaced. . . It's only a matter of time before toyoda gosei's airbags are exploding either before deployment or upon deployment as arc's did recently. Is it possible that you could secure the information on the type of propellent that toyoda gosei is using in their airbags. Thank you for your attention to these issues.

The contact owns a 2014 Subaru Impreza. While driving at a low rate of speed to make a left turn, another vehicle was turning right and the contact bumped into the rear of the vehicle. The driver's side air bag deployed in the steering wheel and below the knees. The contact sustained injuries to the head, back, knees, neck, and face. Medical treatment was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center who repaired the cosmetic damages. The manufacturer was notified and did not provide a dealer as a referral to diagnose the air bag force issue. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was repaired. The contact received no solution from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was unknown.
Problem with the passenger side air bag. When passenger seat is occupied the air bag will randomly turn on and off. Occurs with both light and heavy passengers. Subaru service retrieved a code b1650 from computer. Subaru estimated cost to replace is $300. 00 for control unit replacement.

Passenger side airbag turned off with adult sitting in the seat. Sensor replaced by dealer in July 2012, brought back August 2012 with same problem. Was informed by the dealer that the malfunction was caused by either an electronic device (cell phone) on the seat or the sensor may have been wet. I contacted Subaru north America with this explanation and they confirmed that the new sensoring technology used in the Impreza, was sensitive to electronic pulses and also moisture and possibly sweat. They confirmed that the airbag may turn-off and would not be activated during a collision. Subaru now considers this matter closed.
The passenger side airbag on my 2010 Subaru Impreza is intermittently disabled, even with a 125 pound adult occupying the seat. Shifting your weight in the seat may enable the airbag, but it will usually become disabled again while driving. This seems like a potential safety hazard and is very concerning. I've seen similar complaints on different websites; is Subaru considering a recall or does someone have to get injured first?.

My 24-year-old daughter, who is 5'2" and weighs approximately 100 pounds, was sitting in the passenger seat of my 2008 Subaru Impreza for the first time when we discovered that the passenger occupancy sensor does not register her weight and shuts off the passenger-side airbag. By moving around and adding weight to the seat we were able to turn the airbag back on temporarily -- but when she is just sitting in the seat as she normally would, her weight is not high enough to trigger the sensor. I called the Subaru dealer, who told me that there is no way to change the calibration of the weight sensor. The sensor cutoff is unreasonably high; there are many adults who do not meet this weight requirement (a google search turned up many similar experiences with Subarus). This miscalibration could have dangerous -- even fatal -- repercussions.

Passenger side airbag goes on and off, when my 18 year old daughter sits in seat! she's 5'2" 130lbs. Took to dealer and they had her ride in two Impreza's off the lot and they all did it!.
Both driver's side and passenger's side airbags were deployed when ignition of car was started. The automobile was not running prior to deployment. The automobile was stationary. There was no impact.

Consumer was driving at 65 mph when she pressed on the brakes to avoid hitting car ahead. Abs brakes locked up and the vehicle began fishtailing. This is the third time vehicle fishtailed due to abs failure. The vehicle hit a bridge, the passenger's side air bag deployed with such force that it shattered the shattered proof windshield.
