1 Warning Light On problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/03/2020

Passenger air bag warning light is on and the indicator for the passenger air bag shows it is off even though a 200lb person is in the seat. If airbags are required then shouldn't they work? the car has 60k miles on it and we only put on 200 miles since we bought it. If we are in an accident this tells me no airbag deployment for the passenger.

2 Warning Light On problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

The passenger side occupant detection system has failed. When someone sits in the passenger seat the airbag is not activated and the airbag warning light comes on. This seems to be a common complaint.

3 Warning Light On problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/10/2019

Passenger airbag will intermittently turn off and airbag warning light comes on when there is a passenger in the seat. Seat is not wet. My 2012 Impreza was not part of the recall of the passenger seat airbag sensor but I believe it should be as this sensor fails quite often and the passenger airbag turns off even when someone is sitting in the seat.

4 Warning Light On problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 10/17/2018

Passenger seat airbag warning light shows passenger airbag disabled while a passenger is in the seat. This happens whether the car is moving or stopped. Car is a 2012 Subaru Impreza 5-door wagon, built 10/2011. I see 2012 Impreza sedans have been recalled, but I am having the same issue as those, but my car is a 5-door wagon and isn't on the recall list. Please expand the recall.

5 Warning Light On problem of the 2017 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 11/10/2017

After having car serviced, airbag warning light would not go off. I was told it would need to be "reset", then I was told there was a 90% chance there was a part over the rearview mirror where the front dome lights are that needed to be replaced. They ordered the part and when they were about to install it they said it wasn't that part but a wiring problem that is located over the passenger door inside the ceiling panels that were "chewed" by a rodent. However there were no signs of the rodent and they have no idea how the "rodent" might have entered the ceiling panel because of the tight space. I asked for a photograph. The wires are bare and it actually looks like a low grade fire caused from wires being exposed. I was told it was not under warranty and that it would cost over $600 dollars to repair. I was also asked at the time if I had any small rodent related pets, I do not. I called Subaru immediately because I wasn't buying the rodent story. The dealership has since called me back to tell me now they think a robotic arm might have accidentally damaged the wires in production but they are not sure. The car is not repaired as of yet, and I was told that the car is "safe" to drive. They also broke a part above the passenger visor when checking all this out because the space was so tight , yet a rodent got in and out and only destroyed those wires? they reassured me that they ordered the part they broke and will fix that when it comes in. However, because of the "wire problem" and me not approving the $600 "rodent" repair, my dome lights over my rearview mirrors will not work anymore, however they were working before they checked everything out. I am waiting for Subaru to call me back.

6 Warning Light On problem of the 2014 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 07/09/2017

We have been having a problem with our passenger air bag is off and the air bag warning light coming on the instrument panel when someone is setting is the passenger seat. We have two video one just after the warning lights came on and the second after we stop, shut the engine off and restarted taken today July 9 2017 at 4:56pm. This has been happening since the car was purchase in July 2014. We have taken the vehicle into ultimate Subaru of fredericksburg, va and to crews Subaru north charleston SC about this problem on July 6 2017. I was informed there was nothing they could do since the light doesn't stay on. They also couldn't tell me if the car was safe to drive with someone riding in the passenger seat with the warning lights on. The techs at crew Subaru north charleston SC told me to make a video and to send it to Subaru corporate, NHTSA and iihs. My research online shows that Subaru had a recall on their 2012 Impreza recall #wqt-55, . The fix was to replace the seat senor. Since we have contacted two dealers about this issue and nothing has been done. We have reported this to insurance institute for highway safety (iihs) on April 20, 2017. Today I contacted Subaru corporate case # 1-24758084454 I spoke with kiya at customer service this morning July 10, 2017 she is the one person whom stated that if the warning lights are on then the air bags would not work. I have video show this but can not upload it to this site. I can email it to the right people.

7 Warning Light On problem of the 2017 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/07/2017

Dashboard airbag warning light is on when outside temperatures are hot. Happens alls surfaces/movement: stationary, moving, city street, highway. Passenger seat empty, driver in car only. Subaru dealer blamed it on my seat covers, after pushing for more research dealership says there is a known problem with airbag sensor but only techs who call into their tech help line are made aware. The part to fix the airbag issue/light is not currently available, and no specific date the part will be available to fix. Dealership states the issue is the sensors located on the interior roof of my car next to interior lights. States the sensor wires aren't coated well enough from heat, causing the light to come on/not properly registering if there is or is not a person in the passenger seat. Airbag is off if it doesn't register a passenger. Happened three times in the past two weeks.

8 Warning Light On problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 03/07/2017

Srs airbag warning light illuminates and passenger airbag turns off even with passenger in the front seat. Car was in motion. This is a well known defect and a recall was issued for the exact same reason for the 2012 model, which has the same components as the 2013. Is the NHTSA going to issue a recall or ignore a known and very dangerous fault?.

9 Warning Light On problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 01/03/2017

While driving with occupant (adult woman) in passenger seat the seat belt system warning light illuminated and the display of pass airbag status went to off. Previous recall (service campaign: wqt55|NHTSA campaign: 15v419000) was completed in oct 2015, and think this is similar issue. Was not using any electronics/connections, but occupants were damp from snow skiing. Tried to stop car, remove key, and restart but issue remained for rest of trip (~ 2 hours).

12 Warning Light On problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/23/2015

While driving with a passenger in the front seat, the srs warning light came on and indicated that the passenger side airbag was off. I pulled over, turned the engine off and restarted the car. The srs light was off, passenger side airbag was on. Several miles later, the condition repeated itself. Repeated this process two more times with the srs warning light coming on again both times. I asked my passenger to transfer to the rear seat. The srs warning light did not go on anymore. It has been two days since the incident and the srs light has not come on even with a front seat passenger. This had happened the first time approximately two weeks ago but I thought nothing of it when the condition corrected itself after turning the engine off and turning it back on.

14 Warning Light On problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

December 19, 2013, I purchased a Subaru Impreza from koeppel Subaru in long island city, n. Y. The dealership told me the car was "brand new" and used only for test drives. After 5 months of driving the car, the car began to have problems to start. Putting the key in the ignition, there was no response. The car door had to be opened manually. The airbag warning light on the passenger side would not go off regardless of the seat being empty or occupied. Someone gave me a "boost" which started the car. I was able to drive and then parked the car. I went on vacation for two weeks. After the car being unused for two weeks, again the car would not start. I informed the dealership of this problem and was advised by them to have the car towed to any Subaru dealership for repair. The car was towed to bayridge Subaru which evaluated the car and said that the car had a dead cell in the battery. Subaru dealers were informed in April of 2013 that Impreza had a defect which cause electrical problems in the car leading to the battery dying and engine problems. Koeppel Subaru did not inform me of this recall before I purchased the car in December of 2013. They also did not inform me that the car was previously corporate owned. I believe that koeppel should have informed me about the recall as well as the fact that it was used as a "loaner" before I purchased the car. I believe koeppel Subaru committed consumer fraud by not informing me of the recall and the car's history before purchase. I do not feel safe driving the car and simply want a refund of my down payment ($5,000) and car payments made up to current date. Koepell Subaru should be investigated for their practices in selling used cars. I refuse to pay bayridge Subaru $35/day for storage of this unsafe car. Koeppel Subaru is in violation of consumer protection law.

15 Warning Light On problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Has happened consistently while on drives more than 15 minutes. Passanger airbag system turns off while passanger seat occupied. Could cause fatality. Subaru will not cover replacement despite being obviously defective.

18 Warning Light On problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 06/08/2013

My passenger side airbag warning light comes on, with an accompanying loud tone, at random times while driving, despite the fact that there is not a passenger in the car. Sometimes it senses something very light like my phone on the seat, sets off the warning, and stops when I remove the object. Other times, when there actually is a passenger in the seat, a different warning light will come on saying that the passenger side airbag has been turned off. This happens on its own, also randomly. I seldom have passengers, so it has been a problem I have ignored over the years. But when I had a car savvy passenger recently, he suggested I follow up on what could be a serious safety issue. It appears that there is a recall for this exact issue for my car's model year. However, when I called michael's Subaru in bellevue, where I have had my car serviced for several years, they informed me that my VIN is not part of the recall. It seems clear to me that my car is having the same problem that other cars in the recall had. Please advise.

19 Warning Light On problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 08/02/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated the front passenger's side seat became fractured and was replaced by the dealer. After the seat was replaced, the passenger's side "air bag off" warning light would illuminate whenever the seat would become wet or lightly damp. The failure did not occur prior to the seat replacement. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v419000 (air bags). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,700. Ah.

20 Warning Light On problem of the 2012 Subaru Impreza

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Passenger airbag fault light went on while driving. I pulled over to side of road shut engine off restarted the engine and the light went off. This problem has occurred with increasing frequency since then in a random manner with the light occasionally staying on even after shutting off the engine. I brought it to the dealer for repair during the warranty period. The dealership claimed that they could do nothing since the warning light at that time was off. Imo this is a serious safety issue since one never knows if the passenger airbag will be functional.
