36 Power Train problem of the 2015 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 12/03/2016

I am a 44 year old woman, driving a 2015 wrx. I have only owned and driven manual transmissions my entire life. My last car, a Mazda 3, I drove to 110,000 miles and the clutch never went out. My 2015 wrx is at 22,000 and the clutch is being replaced. A bearing went bad and did damage to the clutch. The dealership is putting a new clutch in the vehicle.

37 Power Train problem of the 2016 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 03/30/2016

In my 2016 Subaru wrx I have had the consistent problem of getting it from neutral into 1st gear. It is either extremely difficult or impossible to get the car into first from a (I. E. Traffic light) stop. It feels like there is something blocking the slot for the gear- sometimes the only way to get it into 1st is to completely restart the car. If I drive 30 miles in a day around town on the street, this 1st gear sticking issue happens 6/10 traffic lights. I took the car into a Subaru dealership shop but they couldn't replicate the issue during a technician test drive.

38 Power Train problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 03/21/2016

A couple years ago my clutch started to creak. I asked the local Subaru dealer to check it when I took it in for a scheduled oil change. I got told they couldn't find a problem. So I thought nothing of it. I just took it back to the dealer and got told the spot welds on the firewall. Subaru offered to fix the welds but I have to pay for a new clutch assembly. If the welds totally fail this could become a serious safety issue as it will affect the brake motion also.

39 Power Train problem of the 2009 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

**clutch spot welds** after replacing 2 clutches and hearing a clicking noise I took it to a Subaru shop. They informed me that the spot welds on the clutch and brake are starting to break loose from the firewall. I then received a safety bulletin from Subaru about the spot welds. Subaru expects the owners to pay for this hazardous well known safety problem.

40 Power Train problem of the 2009 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

The welds connecting the pedal assembly to the firewall have broken. Verified with photo proof.

41 Power Train problem of the 2015 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 11/17/2014

Son had just purchased car. Took the car to an area which had an unplowed parking area to test the handling of the car in the snow. Car died while driving and there was an immediate strong smell of the clutch burning. Could not start the car with the car in gear and the clutch pushed in. Car would only start in neutral. When car started could not get the car to go into gear. Was able to get the car push started and driven approx. 0. 2 miles to a secure area and then had car towed to dealership where the clutch was found to be burned out. Dealership claims it was driver's error but they sent pictures to me and it looks like the damage does not line up with what they say the problem was.

42 Power Train problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 11/05/2014

2008 wrx, 61k miles driven since September 2007. Second clutch replacement and was told by the dealership service (kirkland, wa) that the spot welds for the clutch need work done by body shop - about $1200. Was told that this was because of the weight of the clutch but the clutch was almost always heavy in the car. It first became heavy 1-3 months after it was purchased and about the same time after the clutch was first replaced. I understand the clutch could get worn in a few years, but body structure letting go is not something I'd expect to happen in a 7 year old car. . Read more...

43 Power Train problem of the 2009 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 03/17/2014

I got off work and was on my way home, pushed the clutch in to hear a wonderful snap and I had zero control of my clutch causing me to not be able to shift into or out of any gear. Chassis fatigue and cracking resulting in damage/potential compromise of driver controls. Welds on the firewall are poor and its a manufacturer fault that many have brought to surface with the NHTSA and the soa (Subaru of America) but there is not enough of the cars produced for anyone to take action or for Subaru to care for the safety of the owners of the vehicle. Losing complete operation of the clutch assembly due to the welds of the very poor spot welded firewall going out is a major concern and should be addressed as a high risk safety hazard for the operator and others on public roadways. I need Subaru to fix the problem that they caused from the very beginning of the manufacture process of my vehicle.

44 Power Train problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

My clutch started squeaking for a month and half. When the squeaking stopped, it occurred to me that the squeaking stopped only because the whole firewall had broken. The car is supposed to be fixed tomorrow, and I am out of warranty for my 2008 sti. I am writing to you because this is a major safety issue, which includes the clutch and the braking and the transmission. The Subaru dealership will not fix it for me and has referred me to a collision shop but I am now being forced to pay for these repairs out-of-pocket.

45 Power Train problem of the 2013 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 10/31/2013

The clutch firewall welds have broken loose, causing the clutch to feel soft and flex. Over time this will become a catastrophic failure resulting in an inoperable transmission.

46 Power Train problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The firewall is breaking and/or coming apart. There is a distinct knocking or cracking noise when releasing the clutch.

47 Power Train problem of the 2009 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 05/07/2013

09 Subaru wrx with broken welds on the firewall. This is causing a loud popping when the clutch is depressed. Clutch is getting harder to depress.

48 Power Train problem of the 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Problem started with a squeaking/clicking when the clutch was depressed. Recently the whole clutch/brake assembly shifts down and to the left about 1/4-1/2" when the clutch is depressed. Looking up the problem, I see I have the same issue as many owners, the welds that hold the assembly to the firewall have broken free. Now it is difficult to shift at times.

49 Power Train problem of the 2009 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

The contact owns a 2009 Subaru wrx. The contact stated that while stopped, he noticed a popping and creaking sound coming from the clutch assembly bracket. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.

50 Power Train problem of the 2006 Subaru Impreza Wrx

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

Broken oil pickup tube, driving home from work the pickup tube broke causing the oil in the oilpan to not circulate through the system. This destroyed all internal bearings and likely fatigued many other engine internals. The dealership replaced all bearings under warranty but did not replace any other engine block components.
