Changed out the timing belt as part of recommend service by Subaru only to learn that the head gaskets were leaking and it's a known problem with all Subarus built before 2013. Subaru is aware of the problem, and has created a conditioner that is added to the cooling system as a "band aid. ".

I had entered a parking space, and was slowing to come to the end of said parking space. The car rapidly accellerated, and I could not stop it with the break. I hit the concrete at the end of the space at full speed, which stopped the car. I noticed that the impact had slipped the gear into neutral. When I turned the car back on, it registered that it was in cruise control. I have never used cruise control on any this or any other vehicle. I have bruising from the seat belt, and neck pain from the impact. The vehicle is not drivable due to damage to the front end, and a rumbling noise in the engine with poor response when accelerating.

Vehicle had coolant flush in Dec 2007 (39,924 miles). Coolant leaked after this service. In Jan 2008 (40,912 miles) Subaru dealer put additive in coolant to seal leak and indicated manufacturer extended drivetrain warranty for this model. In Dec 08 coolant leaked. Head gasket replaced 6 weeks after warranty expired (46,457 miles). There was no extension to the drivetrain warranty despite being told such by service advisor (apparently that ended in 2002). Subaru did pay for all by $500 of work. Subaru also indicated they would not guarantee the drive train belt from failing and recommended replacement at my cost.

Wife was driving the car on the freeway and the power steering went out. We thought that a belt had broken or something. She was on her way to the mechanic when it seemed as though the car would not accelerate and was making a loud clunking noise in the engine bay, all of the gauges stopped working. The abs, sport shift and e-brake lights on the dash all turned on each time she stopped. The car died just past an intersection and was pushed into the open area of a parking lot. Since it was hot she, my daughter and my dog all got out and went into the shade of some nearby trees. Within 5 minutes a bystander pointed out that there was a fire underneath the car and the fire department was called. They arrived within the next 10 minutes and the car was completely engulfed in flames. The fire chief said that it was a complete loss and that they have no idea what might have caused it.

: the contact stated while driving the vehicle was hit on the front passenger side, near the bumper and wheel. The other vehicle impacted the vehicle at 40 mph. The airbags did not deploy and the engine did not shut off. The manufacturer determined due to the angle of impact the airbags should not deploy. The contact was wearing a seatbelt, but sustained whiplash. There was a police report taken at the scene. The vehicle was towed to the dealership.
Complained several times to dealer that car had no power, poor gas mileage, hesitation upon starting out, motor fell apart at 66,000 miles on interstate. Car, although a new motor, continues to have no power, poor gas mileage, hesitation upon starting out. What's going to keep the motor from blowing up again, and maybe we be killed. O2 and pt sensors continues to blow. Sunroof will not open;advised a new one would be $975. Sunroof complaint at 13,680 miles.

After a prolonged period of smelling burning oil, a mechanic found defective seals on the crankshaft pulley and elsewhere. This has now happened three times. The details are essentially identical to those described in complaint odi id#855347. In two cases, this has resulted in fouled timing belts, which had to be replaced. In the last case -- March '03 at 90,000 miles -- the valve cover gaskets failed as well. Plainly the seals, their design, or the geometry of the engine fitting itself is defective.

Vehicle was going 65mph, and engine ceased. No warning before all power was lost, timing belt was not originally diagnosed. Dealer stated interior part of the engine created the problem. Dealer spoke to regional office, and entire engine was replaced at manufacturers cost. Subaru was aware of a problem consumer stated the dealer replaced the timing belt because it had broken.

While driving engine light becomes illuminated, then cuts off. Engine will turn over when restarted. Dealer was contacted, but was unable to locate problem. Consumer states the vehicle will fail at the same place daily, was told by a Subaru engineer that the vehicle had lifters installed which were too small and suggested that only very thin synthetic oil be used, consumer tried this and vehicle operates normally for about 1200 miles, dealer has replaced the following to try and correct probleml maf sensor, crank and cam sensors, plugs and wires, coil, computer, starter, altnernator, ignition switch, and timing belt.
The scratch on the glass is on both drivers side and passenger side. I was told it is from the inner door metal rubbing against the glass when windows go up and or down. The mark on the glass is about and inch wide and deep enough that it will not come off. The check engine light came on during the drive home from the lot. The cause according to the dealer was that the cam belt slipped off by one tooth. The rear wheel bearings are needing to be replaced under normal driving conditions. There is no abnormal wear and considering the low 53,000 miles - this should not need to be done. Car when cold idles rough, heat sheild rattles, dash lights in center console not working, extream corrosion under car effecting suspension and making noise when turning wheel right or left.
