Immediately following heavy rain storms, my 2005 Subaru Legacy wagon had problems starting and running. The engine 'stutters' or 'misfires' until the battery is disconnected and left for approximately 10 minutes, then reconnected. I have taken the car in to the Subaru dealer on approximately four occasions for this problem, where ecu codes have been cleared, and I have been informed that the problem was solved. It invariably returns with the next rainstorm. I am concerned that this problem could emerge while driving in rainy conditions, leading to an immediate loss of power and control of the vehicle.

I have a 2001 Subaru Legacy outback. It started giving me trouble and, I found out that there are lot of other people like me who are facing this problem. The vehicle hesitates while driving. It doesn't pick-up speed even if you give it gas. Doesn't cross 35 mph for sometime irrespective of if you give more gas. But suddenly picks up the speed. I once took it to the dealer and he changed the oxygen sensor or knock sensor. It worked alright for a month after that. Again it started doing it. I need help with this. I am told that this site helps me in filing this complaint.

On August the 12 after going up a steep hill the engine started missing really bad to the point I thought it was going to quit . This problem has been reoccuring every time the car is driven. I contacted my dealer on August the 11 and they had me to bring in the car to decarbon the engine . This didnot stop the problem. Itook the car back to the dealer on sept. 12 to have it decarboned again. The service manager told me that Subaru has known about this problem for a year and a half and still has no known fix for this lost power and rough engine problem which they say is due to carbon build up in the engine.

The obd system indicates check engine. The engine looses power and the cars acceleration becomes very weak. The car is turned off and restarted and the engine will either continue to malfunction or will run normally. The dealer replaced the idle speed control ($600) but the problem continues to occur. Now Subaru says that they cannot find any malfunction. When the engine malfunctions without warning it is dangerous to drive the car when accelerating onto a highway or in heavy traffic. I cannot trust this car to get me safely to my destination.

Engine problem 1. After each oil change, engine shows severe hesitation during acceleration at rpm's below 2500 (feels like late ignition timing), which results in loss of power - dangerous when merging into traffic. When rpm's reach 2500, the power returns to normal, and the car starts accelerating much faster, creating a possibility of running into a car in front. This behavior gradually disappears over the next 1500 miles and reappears again after the next oil change. Subaru dealers do not admit any problem. Engine problem 2. When cruising in neutral (standard 5-speed transmission), the rpm stay around 1200 - 1500 in most cases (~95%). They fall to normal 800 only after full stop. In other 5% of situations they fall to normal as you would expect them to. Again, Subaru dealers do not admit any problem.
Repeated cold engine hesitation; hazardous when turning onto busy street.
Engine races at high rpm's without pressing the accelerator.
Engine surges erratically when vehicle is stopped. Rpm goes suddenly from approximately 600 to 1,100, lunging the vehicle unexpectedly forward.
Consumer noticed rust on the engine. Dealer has been contacted andtold consumer to look over the rust. Please provide further information.
Engine was died.
Intermittent severe hesitation - has become safety issue when sudden power loss occurs in traffic under acceleration.
