36 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 01/08/2022

Brake pedal of my Subaru Legacy 2020 stopped working suddenly. It kind of gets stuck. It happened to me twice and that is why I am reporting it now. Luckily it happened when I was starting the car not while driving on the road. But I am a little afraid to drive the car on roads now thinking that brake may get stuck again.

37 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 10/17/2021

While driving down the highway I had to slam on my brakes to avoid colliding with someone and at that time the brake pedal went soft. Upon further inspection 2 different brake hard lines running to the rear of the vehicle have corroded and failed. This issue was supposed to be remedied under 14v311000 and the vehicle was originally taken in for that recall. Subaru of America was contacted and said because the recall work had already been completed they would not address the issue.

38 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 10/08/2021

Following traffic and under heavy braking due to lead vehicle braking hard and making turn without turn signal, brake pedal went to floor and vehicle continued traveling forward resulting in rear end collision with vehicle in front. Upon inspection at dealership both rear brake lines found to be corroded badly and sever leakage from both left and right rear brake lines. Corrosion & weeping also noted by dealership body shop on both lines coming out of vehicle from under rear seat above fuel tank. The corrosion and leakage matches with recall campaign 14v311000.

39 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 09/03/2021

The car (#1) came to a sudden stop on a freeway without the driver stepped on the brake pedal. Front dash cam video on car #1 is available. Car #1 was then hit from behind by another car (#2) which could not stop in time. However, the impact was not significant because car #2 was able to partially switch lane and only the corners of the bumpers of both cars made the contact. The sudden stop problem could not be reproduced afterward by the driver. No dealer/car shop has been contacted on this issue. Warning light(s) status on dashboard of car #1 was unknown . However, driver of car#2 did report seeing brake lights of car #1 before the impact. Car #1 had never been in an accident before. This was the first time the sudden stop issue occurred.

40 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 07/07/2021

While driving the brakelines were affected and brakes weren't working any longer. I see online there is a recall for my specific car. The recall is for corrosion of the brake lines in specific snow states and the use of salt. I live in CT and bought the car from a private owner. I looked to see if the car was ever serviced for the recall and I am finding nothing on it. Thr exact spot indicated in the recall is exactly where the brake lines corroded so much that there is a hole now. Thanks for your time.

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 07/06/2021

I have experienced two separate occasions where my vehicle accelerated even though my foot was on the brake pedal. Once, I was slowing down on a main street for a stop light behind several other cars. My vehicle began to accelerate and would have rammed the car in front of me if I had not been able to swerve into an empty turn lane. Due to the acceleration, I figured I must have accidentally hit the gas pedal, so I lifted my foot and hit the other pedal--which was the accelerator, and naturally just accelerated the vehicle more. I then put my foot back on the brake and the car came to a stop. The second time, my son was backing into our driveway. He had the brakes on. The car was slowing down. Then it suddenly accelerated backward. My son said his foot was still on the brake pedal when the car accelerated, and he did the same thing I did when I had the issue: he moved his foot to the other pedal, thinking he had made some kind of error, but found that the switch only made the car accelerate more, so he switched back to the brake pedal and the car stopped. In both of these instances, the car was initially braking when the brake pedal was applied, then began to accelerate without a change in foot positioning. The accelerator was not touched in either instances because the vehicle was going slow enough not to need much pressure, and the accelerator is positioned far enough away from the brake as it is impossible to touch both pedals at the same time. The floor mats were properly secured at both times (as they always are) and could not possibly have interfered in any way. Thankfully no one has been hurt or experienced any property damage during either of these episodes, but I am worried that one of these days, something horrible will happen if this problem is not corrected! I will give the date of the most recent occurrence in the information included with this report.

I was driving on the capital beltway in silver spring during evening rush hour going approximately 60 mph when the vehicle started to slow down on its own and the warning lights on the dash associated with the emergency braking system ( which causes the car to abruptly stop if you are going to crash) started to flash. It lasted about 5-10 seconds . I did not take my foot off the gas or brake the car. Then it accelerated on its own to 60 mph.

49 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 06/25/2020

Driving car and had complete loss of brakes. Vehicle has had issues or random consumption of brake fluid. Passenger rear brake pipe burst open and failed due to corrosion not addressed by previous recalls. Subaru of America will not honor replacement and services cost because the Legacy model is not specific to the recall and out of warranty. Soa did honor $350 credit for repairs that cost $1100.

52 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 06/19/2019

Car was at a turning intersection. Car was completely stopped, foot was applied to brake with normal pressure. Within a few seconds, car started to progress forward, I lifted foot off brake and reapplied. The brake did not sense pressure, I put the car in park. These actions did not stop the car. Last effort attempt was to lift the emergency brake applied. This stopped the car. I turn off the engine and restarted the car.

54 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 02/05/2019

Very routinely when coming to a stop from the car moving when you decrease your speed when stopping for a light, traffic, or anything that would require a quick stop, the car will stall out as your speed is less than 10-20 mph and you loose control of the steering, brakes. Ect. This is a huge safety issue and needs to be addressed by Subaru immediately. This can occur on any street, highway and will do this while turning as well. This happens daily in my commute and is a danger to myself and others. It occurs when coming to a stop from a moving position.

55 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 11/18/2018

My vehicle was involved in an accident yesterday. While pulling in to a parking spot and almost completely stopped with my foot on the brake about to place the car in park, it suddenly accelerated. The result was a front end collision with the side of a restaurant and the air bags did not deploy. I'm grateful that there were no injuries but I'm worried that there may be something seriously wrong with this vehicle and possibly others like it. I'm not sure how to start an investigation of this nature so I'm turning to your organization for guidance. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

56 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

When the vehicle starts going around 55 - 60 mph, the car starts shaking vigorously. The wheel also shakes which also concerns me. Moreover, when I start to slow the car down, a rattling noise constantly shakes my car including my wheel from side to side. I think there might be an alignment problem with my vehicle since my check engine light turns on and off frequently.

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 10/08/2018

Brake pedal travel suddenly increased while driving on residential street. Brake pedal must be depressed almost to floor for car to begin braking. Braking is not very effective. No brake fluid loss experienced and brake fluid appears clear. Fluid level near maximum level in reservoir. A recall (11v562000) for similar issue on certain 2012 Legacy was issued but my VIN does not indicate a recall.

58 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

Electronic parking brake. This recall has been out since September and still have no remedy to be fixed. This is extremely inexcusable because this is a huge safety for people who have a manual transmission and knowing it can disengage one it's own.

59 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 09/04/2018

Recall #wtv81 10-12 leg&out epb actr assy replace status: remedy not yet available. This recall has been out since September and still have no idea when it will be fixed.

60 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/03/2018

The brake pipes have been rusted through on my car. The locations is just forward of of the passenger rear tire. Subaru had placed a plastic cover there, but I believe is failed to stop the problem which has plagued their cars since the 90s. I am aware of other recalls for this problem in the Subaru line, but current recall stops of 2009 on the Legacy. The brakes started losing pressure when I was on my way home from a store a 1/4 mike from home. I was able to get the car home safely.

61 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

#1 since the vehicle was purchased I had to add at least one quart of oil to the engine between each recommended oil change. I informed the dealer who had me return approx 1300 miles after my last oil change, which I did. The dealer indicated to me that the oil level was fine. By 3,700 miles the oil warning light came on and I had to add a quart of oil. #2 since the vehicle was purchased I had to turn the rotors or purchase new rotors every 6 month. When you try to stop the braking system has extensive shaking when braking. It makes the car hard to stop when the shaking occurs. When you turn the rotors the shaking goes away but will return in about 4 to 6 months.

62 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 02/23/2018

After turning onto my inclined, somewhat long driveway, and applying a soft braking when entering my garage, the car suddenly sped up to a high speed and crashed into the wall which had two layers of plastic storage boxes in front of it. The boxes pushed the wall into my house which pushed my dining room hutch forward causing the top part to fall back and break just about all the crystal and heirloom items inside it. The top part of the hutch is unrepairable. My car was damaged, my home is damaged, and my hutch is ruined. I am now afraid to ever park in my garage again with this vehicle. I am also afraid of this happening elsewhere where I might possible injure others or myself.

63 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 09/12/2017

Car drops rpm and stumbles to almost stalling during breaking at city speeds also does the same in low speed reverse situation like parking. Dash lights up but no code stored. This is the third time this issue has presented itself. I spoke to a dealer reference the reverse issue and was told that there was nothing wrong with the car. Subaru claims to be one of the safest vehicles on the road? this is not safe. The chance of being rear ended at highway speed could be deadly!.

64 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/30/2017

I was going 40mph when I had to break for a yellow light with plenty of time to stop, as I was hitting the brakes my car began to skip and continue to press forward and did not stop until I hit the back of someone's vehicle. The brakes did not work and I was not going so fast that I couldn't have had a smooth stop.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 1998 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 06/26/2017

The contact owns a 1998 Subaru Legacy. While the brake pedal was depressed, the contact stated that the brake pedal felt spongy. The contact heard a rattling noise, but could not determine the origin. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake discs, brake rotors, and idler arms on both sides of the vehicle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 150,000.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 03/06/2017

Have an issue with driving between 60 and 70 mph, steering wheel vibrates, at times very hard and when braking, car shakes a great deal. Can at times happen at lower speeds as well. Made sure all tires were filled to specific psi levels provided by car manual as well as having tires balanced and rotated without much help. This has been occurring just of late over past 2 weeks and is an everyday/travel occurrence.

68 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 08/23/2016

Two week old vehicle with 980 miles. This problem has occurred since delivery. The brakes are soft and go all the way to the floor with no further pedal travel after coming to a complete stop. This is repeatable and occurs every time you come to a complete stop at a light or stop sign and maintain the pressure on the brake pedal. The pedal will slowly sink to the floor if pressure is maintained. Subaru of America is aware of this issue and is unable to fix problem at this time. They have assigned a case number to my issue with this vehicle and are working on it. This issue apparently affects other 2017 Subaru vehicles. One dealer technician, after verbally stating they felt what I felt with the brake pedal, found that other 2017s did the same thing so wrote "no problem found" on the work order. Another Subaru dealer also witnessed the problem and wrote on the work order that the brakes felt normal until coming to a full stop and the pedal went to the floor. They then stated two other 2017s on the lot did the same thing. I consider this a serious safety issue and do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

69 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 07/04/2016

The 2011 Subaru Legacy has an electronic parking brake. After a few years, the brake mechanism broke and wouldn't "turn on" or "switch off". This was terribly unsafe and cost over $800 dollars to fix. The vehicle was stationary.

70 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Subaru Legacy

Failure Date: 06/17/2016

Following are two main issues, causality/correlation uncertain. After the "Subaru eyesight" failed for about two minutes while underway (dashboard cluster lit up in numerous places, too), the eyesight system reset while driving. Thereafter, the vehicle began to "buck (e. G. Lurch forward several inches with a lot of force)" when the vehicle's cvt was in "drive" and I was stopped with the brake depressed at normal pressure. This has happened about six times in the last four days, and I am extremely concerned. The "buck" is so severe that the first time it happened, I felt like I was rear-ended. The most recent time that it occurred, my best friend could have been severely injured when the car lurched forward as he was standing outside of the running vehicle, gathering things from the front seat (e. G. Foot or leg run over had he been taking groceries out of the back seat). At this point, the Subaru dealership is being coy about situation resolution. What is especially concerning is that the eyesight system is supposed to "kill" acceleration when the vehicle is stopped, and an object forward of the car is detected. Yet, the vehicle tried to proceed forward when stopped in traffic?.
