1 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 12/21/2020

A phantom emergency braking event occurred twice on Monday, December 21, 2020 while driving from dallas to houston between the hours of 12pm - 4pm cst. I also experienced three blank screen events during this same trip. The media control unit (mcu) controlling the map, radio, air conditioning, blinker sounds also ceased operating. The second occurrence of both the phantom emergency braking and black screen event occurred on Saturday, January 9, 2021 shortly after 10am cst. The sudden phantom emergency braking episode I experienced at highway speed from dallas to houston was extreme. I simply do not feel safe using the cruise control or autopilot in this vehicle. Something is very wrong. However, Tesla message to me states 'we are happy to report that your hardware vitals for the media control unit and emmc are in great shape and do not require replacement'. I have attached a print screen of this message.

2 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 11/11/2020

2017 Tesla Model S. Center screen freezes up and dash lights go bright to dark. Issue; when center screen locks up you can't use the following- defrosters, air conditioning, heater, garage door remote, navigation, back up camera, auto poilet warning goes on and off with out me touching it. . Very dangerous and scary . I had it in twice for the same problem and was told it was a simple soft wear update. Finally have an appointment but it took over two weeks. Now I am told that if there was an upgrade I need too pay out of pocket for the companies faulty issues. Seriously! this happens moving and stationary. Happens multiple times weekly.

3 Air Conditioner problem of the 2013 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 11/08/2020

The primary Tesla screen regularly has intermittent screen failures. This leads to me having to reset the computer while driving a few times before operation resumes. This causes the rear cam, air conditioning, navigation, and other consistently to cease for a short period. Recently the screen has developed air bubbles in the screen and leaks goo into the floor (the leaking fluid).

4 Air Conditioner problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 10/02/2020

My center screen that controls the vehicle functions such as air conditioning, all vehicle settings, map, cruise control, vehicle collision sensors, lder, etc are not functioning because the mcu unit failed. The emmc chip inside mcu failed when the vehicle was downloading a update sent from Tesla over the air. The car doesnt want to turn on half the time and vehicle driveability and functions are very limited. Tesla hasnt responded to my complaints and my issue. The car was in my driveway and downloading when the screen qent black and nevwr turned back on. I took it to a Tesla 3rd party shop and they advised me to keep calling Tesla to notify them of faulty mcu and emmc unit. The danger is that the vehicle collision and safety features are disabled and its dngerous driving on roads.

5 Air Conditioner problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

Mcu goes blank; this effects exterior lights; acceleration settings; steering modes; regenerative braking; stopping mode; the entire sound system, including the turn-signal tones; displaying warning notifications; critical gauges; gps navigation; self-driving mode; rear view camera; ability to charge; suspension; heating and air conditioning; and the sunroof.

6 Air Conditioner problem of the 2013 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

I own a Tesla Model S and I reporting issues with my touch screen mcus. It has completely failed after 7,000 miles. Presently I have absolutely no control of my heating,, air conditioning, fan, safety cameras, garage door opener, or electronic controls on any tough screen portions of the car. This is a huge public safety concern that impacts me and the public as well. I live in a mountainside area and we depend on the back up camera to avoid accidents as our garage backs up into a very narrow lane. And I can not see the children and animals that are in back of my car when I exit my garage. Nor can I use any of the gps features for guidance as well. The touch screen has complete failure in the mcu unit. I contacted telsa re this issue and informed them that this is a liability to me and the brand based on the huge safety issues this presents. I told them I was glad that the call was being recorded as I did want this issue to be unreported. And I informed Tesla that this problem is exigent as we live in southen California and the temperate is now over 120 degrees. This could cause heat stroke and also kill our animals as well. Tesla replied that this my my problem and not theirs. Some owners believe that it is a problem with the embedded multi-media-card memory (emmc) in the mcu and that it is being overwritten to the point of failure. Ii know now that is a recognized defect known as the 'emmc failure' problem. I understand that Tesla now has introduced a new mcu in 2018 that doesn't have the same problem, but owners of older vehicles are still experiencing the problem in having to replace the unit out of warranty, despite seeing Tesla's mistake as the source of the problem instead of a normal issue that occurs over time. I need resources and remedies to correct this manufacture induced malaise.

7 Air Conditioner problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 07/23/2020

On July 23, 2020, at around 1:00 pm, I was highway driving at 65 mph on east bound I-70 near blue springs, mo. When my touchscreen failed and went blank. I lost access to all my touch screen features and it rendered my Tesla app on my mobile phone in operable. I was able to drive it to the Tesla service center in kansas city, mo. On same day. On July 23, 2020, around 2;05 pm, I was advised by Tesla that my touchscreen failed and will have to be replaced. My Tesla was not drivable as it could not be charged and the air conditioner could not be turned off. I left my car with the Tesla service center mentioned above and I authorized replacement of the Tesla touch screen. I was informed by Tesla that my car was out of warranty and the cost of the touch screen replacement would be at my expense. I authorized the repair. The mileage on my car is about 25,000 miles. Tesla presently has my car in their service shop as it is not safely drivable. The replacement screen has been ordered and should be installed and my Tesla ready for pick-up on or about August 4, 2020.

10 Air Conditioner problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 07/11/2020

Media control unit screen went blank while vehicle was in motion. Vehicle still drives, but driver is unable to use navigation or media functions. No turn signal feedback. No backup camera. Worse, unable to control ac that was running at the time of incident. Air conditioning still runs after vehicle supposed to be stopped, draining battery. Vehicle had to be parked for 48hrs + with ac running constantly until brought to dealership. Service wants $1700 for a replacement, or $2250 for an "upgrade".

11 Air Conditioner problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 07/05/2020

The Tesla media control unit completely failed on 7/5/20 after being unable to turn back on. The vehicle was stationary and was parked on the street. Due to the failure of the media control unit, the systems such as the air conditioning, backup camera, controls, etc were unable to be controlled which posed a significant safety hazard.

12 Air Conditioner problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 07/03/2020

The center screen (mcu) has glue running inside the screen of the entire unit and then leaking out the bottom. The screen now also turn off (reboots) at different time while driving thus incapacitating the review camera, air conditioning and other functions for up to 5-8 minutes while system reboots. This happens while stationary and in motion. .

13 Air Conditioner problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 06/24/2020

Mcu1 touchscreen has an expected short life span due to Tesla's logging practices. This practice shortens the lifespan of mcu1 (main control unit) devices significantly and hinders touchscreen capacity, removes auto pilot capabilities, and prevents air conditioning control or media control.

14 Air Conditioner problem of the 2013 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 05/07/2020

The media control unit (mcu) has failed on my vehicle over a month ago. I am still waiting for the Tesla service center to notify they have a replacement for me. Till then, the representative said the vehicle is still safe to drive. Failure of the mcu means I am unable to control most of the vehicles functions. Most notably, I cannot raise the vehicles suspension, turn on the air conditioning, or view the rear view camera. Others things affected are opening the sunroof, listening the the radio or music at all, use gps, connect my phone to the vehicles bluetooth, connect to my phone via Tesla app, the odometer reading isn't visible anymore, the walk-away lock feature is inoperative so if I forget to manually lock the vehicle it will stay unlocked, and there may be more features inoperative that I am unaware of. The failure of the mcu occurred after I was done charging at a supercharger station. I noticed the screen was glitching so I attempted to reset the screen. After a few seconds the screen should've came back on but it never did.

15 Air Conditioner problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 04/29/2020

Primary touchscreen failure (mcu). The car was stationary parked in garage. The primary touchscreen failed and would not start. Air conditioning, turn signals, and backup camera stopped working, along with all other settings because non-functional. Car is 5 years old and 45,000 miles. The mcu touchscreen had to be replaced.

16 Air Conditioner problem of the 2014 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 04/05/2020

The media control unit (touch screen system in Tesla used to control many components of the car is leaking a liquid, and has made it very difficult to make changes as the touch sensitivity was impacted). The media control unit is used to control the locking/unlocking of doors and trunk, the air conditioner, the vehicle's charging port, etc.

17 Air Conditioner problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 03/20/2020

Mcu failure (March 2020) from emmc memory wear-out resulted in non-functioning car. Car would not "turn off," thereby entirely draining batteries. Since the air conditioner was on during mcu failure, it would remain on, no matter what I did, thereby (a) running down the battery, and (b) potentially creating a maintenance or fire hazard (ac running for 12 hours). Also non-functional was cruise control, radio, rear camera, audible warnings (like turn-signal clicks), inability to control battery charging, loss of navigation, parking warning chimes, energy usage graph, cell features, etc. Significantly, the "creep" feature, which moves the car forward when pedal is lifted, also did not work -- causing me to have to relearn certain drive features, and at one point allowing the car to roll backward when it usually would have creeped forward. It's unknown if certain emergency braking features would have worked. Main vehicle control systems functioned (steering & brakes), but nothing else did, and driving was very concerning. Cost to repair was $1575. However, the same type of computer was installed, which leads to concerns that the same problem may occur in the future. See also NHTSA action number: pe20010.

18 Air Conditioner problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 08/29/2019

I understand you are investigating Tesla Model S computer failure. I would like to list the issues I have had since I brought my Model S in March 2015: -April 2015 ? front trunk would not open. Latch was replaced under warranty. -June 2016 ? driver door handle stopped working. Replaced under warranty -August 2019 ? media control unit failure (touchscreen). Happened on a Friday and I could not see in reverse, could not use handsfree phone ? important for me as a critical care physician answering calls from the icus. Could not closer sunroof. Car could not be shut down. The air conditioner stayed on for 3 days until I can get the car to service center. Car had to remain plugged into charger to support the air conditioner etc so I had enough battery reserve to get to the service center. My cost $2134 -August 2019 ? a/c failed after having run nonstop for 3 days b/c of mcu failure. My cost $869. -August 2019 ? in effort to shut down the car, per Tesla phone instructions, I disconnected the battery and charged it. As a result the battery shaped ballooned out and I had it replaced since everything was open. My cost $216.
