1 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2016 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 05/05/2021

The vanity mirrors can easily fell off from the sun visors. I got this problem, and found the heavy mirror is glued by white double sided adhesive tape which will loss adhesion at high temperatures. Then the mirror fell because of gravity. Although, there is a plastic mirror cover, the cover has very fragile thin spin axles. I did not witness the whole process, but since I do not use that mirror so the mirror cover should not be damaged before this happed. So I guess that in my case the fallen mirror smashed the cover, and the cover axles are broken and so the cover got opened automatically and let the mirror came out. There are airbags behind the sun visors, so the falling mirrors and covers are not only a risk factor for daily driving but also may cause severe injury when the airbags are activated. I do not use that mirror, I only use the sun visors, so this is definitely a car defect. The fallen mirror is not showed in my pictures. When I found the problem, the cover was not completely detached from the sun visor, since I cannot close it anymore and it seems like will falling soon, so I pulled it off.

2 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2013 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 01/11/2021

I have had multiple issues with my 2013 Model S including but not limited to total failure of the mcu, total failure of the battery and partial failure of the tire pressure monitoring system. Some problems that I have encountered during the mcu failure before and after the mcu was replaced include loss of ability to access the screen to turn on heat, radio, defrosters, bluetooth, or any other function of the screen that is available, loss of blinker sound, loss of parking chime sound, loss of sound from the stereo including no bluetooth or music. While driving from blaine, mn to st. Paul, mn with my blinker on the majority of the time on the freeway with out my knowledge because the was no blinker sound. That was not only frightening but also dangerous. I have had a myriad of issues with this vehicle and I am really fearful of a total failure while I am driving. All of the issues noted above were during motion. One other problem I have noticed is my car takes an excessive amount of time to turn on.

3 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2017 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 01/08/2021

My screen keeps freezing and is black causing a safety hazard and I can't drive the car anymore. I have taken the car to Tesla several times but they won't fix it. The computer is broken and the chip has failed. The ac doesn't work, I can't control my radio, my back up camera doesn't work, turn signals don't work, hands free system doesn't work, nav system doesn't work. Tesla needs to replace my entire nav, entertainment computer to return the car to what I actually paid for. The clock doesn't work, and I can't tell how much battery life I have left. This is a dangerous situation and they have refused to repair then computer. This is an electric car and 100% relies on the computer to control even the smallest details. I cannot drive the car and try to reboot the car while I'm driving. Nothing has worked. Tesla knows about this situation and I am not the only owner who has this problem.

The touchscreen in the car freezes resulting in many functions not working such as navigation, radio, turn signals, and so on. The issue occurs randomly irrespective of if the vehicle is parked or in motion. Tesla service has not taken any action even though the issue has been reported several times with a service request. They keep telling its a software issue and an update will come to resolve it.

6 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2013 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 09/04/2020

The car was pending an over the air update which I was delaying because of the research I found online about the computer touchscreen chip going out. The update was forced to the car while it was in my garage and after the update the touchscreen was non functional. Because of this most features were not usable like a/c and radio. The more important features that were not able to use were that the turn signal.

10 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 06/30/2020

Main display stopped working today (June 30th 2020). Now hvac, radio, sunroof, rear camera, indicator light noise, and a few other functions don't work. This seems to be the emmc memory write failure issue. The car was stationary when I noticed the issues, since I just got into the car and immediately noticed main display was dead.

11 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2017 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 06/30/2020

Vehicle computer fails repeatedly over and over, hundreds of times since purchasing the car and Tesla refuses to do anything about it. The primary display that indicates my speed, indicators etc does not work at intermittent times, I at other times can not control or function lights, turn indicators, or basic functions other than acceleration and braking / turning. This has been to service many times and each time they say they won't do anything to help. Often times the cruise control won't work, and since the display won't function or freezes completely ' I cannot use radio, navigation, etc. There have been several instances where my vehicle will not even turn on, or will take 20 minutes to 'boot' up. There have also been major issues where the vehicle will not accept a charge at all. Additionally, the vehicle states a range of 299 miles per charge, and after exemplary usage, I only get approx 265 miles per charge now which is well beyond average degradation for an ev.

12 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 06/23/2020

Tesla screen went completely black and will not come on. No back up camera, no turn signal, no radio, no a/c. This happened one morning when I went to turn the car on. Have tried reset. Made an appointment with Tesla to repair but in the process of researching problem, have found this to be a known failure of many Tesla's between 2014-2017. It is a safety hazard and Tesla should be doing a recall. I am afraid to even drive my car to the service center for repair that is 15 miles from my home.

13 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2014 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 06/03/2020

Touchscreen failure due to emmc chip. This rendered many of the vehicle functions useless, such as ac, turn signals, high-beams, radio, navigation, back up camera, proximity sensors, garage door opener, infotainment info, and charging. I was told by a Tesla service center rep that if battery fail do to not being able to charge it would be on me. Even though that function was rendered useless due to the screen failure. The car was parked in the garage while charging when this happened, I woke up to a black screen the next morning.

14 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2015 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 03/27/2020

Center touchscreen went black. All controls weren't usable or functioning like ac, heating, radio, guidance maps and navigation, charging door port wound open, charging slows to take days and days to charge the car; literally most features on the car. Repair cost $2,326. 44 on 4/28/2020 car was in our garage. Stuck between computer updating. This is a known Tesla issue they have known for a long time. Memory chip mcu gets filled with info and the car's computer stops working. All early Model S and x 2012 to 2017 are experiencing this issue after a few years of ownership.

15 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2013 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 02/08/2020

Tesla released an update that throttled how fast my car DC charges and reduced my range. I used to be able to start DC charging at 99kw and now it starts at 72kw and taper from there. Also I can't charge to 100% now. It stops around 97% and say "calculating remaining time" and after 30-40 minutes stops and says charging complete. My maximum rated range is now 167 miles down from 208 miles. That's a 20%, 40 mile loss of range. I had Tesla look at it twice and they say nothing is wrong. Last appt they sent me a text on Feb 10th and cancelled my appt saying there's no issue. Now in the winter I can't make it home to toledo OH from columbus OH a 132 mile trip. Real world in the cold you lose 25% range to keeping the battery warm. With Tesla capping my range with the update plus the range loss in winter I'm short 10 miles.

16 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2013 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 06/28/2019

The center media touchscreen (mcu) in my vehicle stopped functioning and several functions ceased working. Initially I received a "touchscreen unresponsive" message while driving so when I stopped at a stoplight I attempted to reboot the mcu using the steering wheel controls. The screen started the reboot process but everything that was on including hvac and radio turned off for the remainder of my drive and were inoperable until after the screen was replaced. The touchscreen never turned back on. Many functions did not work when the mcu died with the oddest one of all being that I had no turn signal sounds which I think are created by the cars audio system and the mcu. With the loss of the mcu, I lost the use of my backup camera and my hvac which was stuck in an off state so I had to roll down my windows in order to have any airflow in the cabin. Thankfully I did not need the forward or rear defroster between when my screen stopped working and it was replaced as both are controlled via the mcu and were unavailable. Charging at home was extremely limited and maxed out at very low amperage and I was unable to change the charging amperage due to the inaccessible touchscreen. I did not try a DC fast charger. Mobile app control was unavailable so I was not able to use it to adjust my hvac or charging settings. The controls for adjusting the active air suspension were also not available however the car appeared to set itself to a normal ride height. No steering wheel controls (hvac, radio, sunroof, voice commands) worked and my headlights were stuck in auto mode that was the second mcu in my car, previously being replaced about 14 months earlier due to the screen adhesive failing which caused air bubbles to form within the touchscreen. I think the cause of the mcu failure was emmc flash reaching its maximum write lifetime despite the prior replacement.

17 Radio/tape Cd Player problem of the 2017 Tesla Model S

Failure Date: 06/19/2018

When any form of music playback fails (usb, radio, etc) the audio alert functionality of the car also is disabled. Any audio alarms (everything from blinker sounds to emergency brake warnings) cease to function until the music playback recovers from its error.
