This is a safety issue that seems to be on Toyota models. The front and passenger doors will open if attempted to open during car operation even if the doors are locked.

The rear door opening handle has material that has melted making it almost always impossible to open the door. I moved last August from texas to south carolina and apparently the material Toyota used in it's 2007 4-runners cannot hold up to the texas heat. The insurance company for Toyota which covers the extended warranty I purchased denied paying for the repair stating that my rear door can be opened some of the time!! this is a dangerous situation & I have been unable to get my dogs out of the rear door on several occasions. . Fortunately none of them life threatening yet.
Aafter the overnight temporature dropped befow freezing, both of my 2003 Toyota 4 runner rear doors froze to their wheel wells due to a minor accumulation of mud in the wheel wells (less than 1/4 inch thick) where the door bottom extends. Although the door latches functioned properly, and the doors could be 'sprung' away from the frame at the top, the bottom remained frozen to the wheel well prohibiting opening. Emergency egrees would have been impossible.

My wife was driving along approximately 30 mph. All of a sudden the passenger side rear window shatters for no apparent reason. Luckily our 3 year old child was on the other side. She called the police and he said it was a defect in Toyota 4runners. Ts.

We have contacted Toyota and the dealership and they are unwilling to see any of these things as safety hazards. Especially door locks, tires, seatbelts. And we were never told the vehicle was serviced before we purchased it "brand new" in 1997. We found that out in error at the dealership (al hendrickson Toyota) when they accused us of not servicing our vehicle. The SUV was clearly a lemon all along. We took the vehicle to be serviced but the dealership conveniently has no records of us, even when provided with documented proof (receipts). There computer says "we did not come into service our vehicle. " the 1997 4-runner is a safety hazard. (dot number: n/a tiresize: p265/70r16).
