Hatchback/liftgate Problems of Toyota 4Runner

Upon attempting to lift the rear liftgate, the door would not stay in open position. The day before 03/08/2013, it worked fine. It appears the rear liftgate struts failed. This is dangerous because if these struts failed in the open position it would have resulted in serious injury.

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota 4runner. While the vehicle was parked the lift gate was open and closed on its own with force while the contact was standing underneath it. The contact stated that the lift gate was no longer functioning automatically and that she had to manually open it. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 11,500.

-hatchback electronic closure fails for the second time within a one year period -replaced motor once because vehicle does not operate without--exhaust fumes come through the hatchback, unable to lock vehicle, lights don't automatically shut off, water during rain or snow gets inside vehicle, etc there is no manual over-ride to enable closing the hatchback there is no purpose for an electronic closing device--you still manually pull down the hatch, and once closed, the motor engages to latch it shut! the part wasn't covered under warranty, despite other hatchback complaints (poor aerodynamic design with lots of dirt thrown up on hatchback), so there have been issues with using the key lock, being unable to roll down the window, and now the vehicle is rusting around the window.

I recently purchased a new 2006 Toyota 4 runner. I have had nothing but motor transmission, electrical failures. I have only had my vehicle for 1 month and anything and every thing has gone wrong. I even had to give my daughter cpr on the side of the road due to carbon monoxide inhalation. She went into respiratory failure do to this she has severe asthma.

Rear gate handle latch sharp metal causing fingers to catch when consumer atempt to open the gate. Yh.
