Toyota 4runner, 2004, v6-sport edition during warranty period 2009 (purchased extended warranty), low tire pressure sensor light came on, repaired by Toyota dealership, after a year light returned. Check all tires at recommended pressure, light remains on. Had vehicle serviced for recall on floor mat issue on may 8, 2011 and asked tech to check on low tire pressure warning light, was told that all tires are properly inflated; however, light would not go away and a diagnostic check and cost is $90. Personally, I feel previous problem was never resolved. . . Reoccurring issue.

4 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 03/07/2011

There was a recent recall on Toyota trucks for the tire gauge. I have had the exact problem with my Toyota 4-runner (2006). The tire gauge light is always one. When I take it in for service they turn the gauge off but goes right back on. I have talked to others and they have the same issue with their 4-runners and Lexus rx400h. I talked to the service manager and he said he sees the issue all the time with 4-runners.

5 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2005 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 10/05/2010

I am constantly having to take my car into my tire dealer, because they are losing tire pressure, and the tpms tire sensor indicator is showing the tires are low. I am concerned tht this is a seriuos dangerous situation. I feel Toyota should replace theses defective sensors at no charge.

6 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 01/18/2010

"tire low" light goes on a lot. The first time, I actually had a flat. The rest of the times it happened, I went to the tire shop, and they said that either one tire was a little low (not dangerously) or none of them were. This is annoying because the light won't go off by itself if you fill the low tire -- someone has to turn it off manually. Also, I take the vehicle off paved roads fairly frequently, so I need to know whether there really is a problem if the light comes on.

8 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2005 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 09/26/2008

Tire stem valve caps are unable to be removed due to a defect in manufacturing (all 4 tires plus the spare). I am unable to add or remove air from the tires causing a safety hazard. The manufacturer acknowledges the problem but refuses to repair or replace at no charge. The only option offered by the manufacturer is they have offered to break the part off and charge us to replace it (>$500 repair). No accident has yet been caused.

10 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2005 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

The tpms sensors on my 2005 Toyota 4runner failed when the metal valve stem caps provided with the car corroded to the valve stem threads. The vehicle had roughly 60k miles on it when this began to occur. I inquired about this at the dealer and was told that the issue was caused by road salt and the metal caps on metal valve stem threads (dissimilar metals). I was also told that Toyota recognized the cause of the issue as the metal caps and replaced them with plastic caps on newer 4runners. The dealer was unwilling to replace the tpms sensors on my vehicle however without having to pay for the parts and labor (~ $500 job). The Toyota customer service hotline told me the same story on two occasions. After searching on a Toyota 4runner forum, I discovered this to be a common problem on many 4runners. My tpms sensors were replaced with regular valve stems by a local tire shop, which is what is currently on my vehicle. To date, I haven't had an issue with the tires as I regular monitor the pressure manually. I am concerned with the issue and Toyota's unwillingness to reconcile the safety concern.

11 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2005 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 06/08/2007

My 05 Toyota 4runner has pressure monitors and the valve cores continue to leak air, making the vehicle unsafe to drive, since the tires are continuously losing air and going flat. Have to constantly be stopping and putting more air in them. Tire shop says the stems have to be replaced through Toyota, since they are part of the tire pressure monitoring safety system. Toyota just puts air in them and send me on my way. This has been happening since 07. Even with extended warranty, they will not replace the stems. I just do not drive the Toyota much anymore, since I do not think it is safe. I have other vehicles to drive. But would like to have a safe vehicle again. I have spoken to Toyota hq and they refer me back to the dealer. . I do not live close to the dealer, several hours drive to get there.

12 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2002 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 03/17/2005

Brent brown Toyota in oreum utah performed a 60,000 mile check up on our 2002 4-runner, the staff were great and the work accomplished correctly. After driving home over five hours from the dealership to our home, I thought that the 4-runner seemed to be riding rough. Upon checking the tire pressure, I found each tire to be over inflated at 70 pounds per tire. I had a local tire shop, "canyon lands tire" confirm the over inflated tires at more than 70 pounds in each tire. Canyon lands tire did verify that indeed the tire pressure was at 70 pounds and more. This oversight endangered my wife and I. The tires could have run off the rims resulting in injury or loss of life. I have contacted the Toyota dealership who said they will be calling back.

13 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 01/04/2005

2004 Toyota 4runner. The tire pressure warning system light blinks meaning the system is not functioning properly. I have been to the dealer 5 times and all they seem to do is check the spare tire and reset the warning light after the diagnostic. After 1 day the warning light comes back on. On another Toyota 4runner I test drove I noticed the same blinking tire pressure sensor warning light.

14 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 09/27/2004

Relates to a 2004 Toyota 4runner. The tire pressure sensor system malfunctions and the light blinks indicating low pressure in the tires (blinking of the light per the provided manual is indicative of low pressure in tires). Toyota and its dealers refuse to acknowledge the issue and unable to offer a fix. I have had my vehicle in the dealer shop now twice and involved regional Toyota technical support with no resolution. Each time the sensor is reset, the light triggers on after a few days. Likely a failure of the either the tire sensor or the electronic control module. By admission of the dealer multiple vehicles have similar problems. The failure of the tire pressure sensor system tends to occur each time after driving conditions that involve higher (legal) speeds and after continuous driving for more than 30 minutes on highways.

15 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2004 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 06/17/2004

Low tire pressure indicator light comes on and blinks after vehicle has been travelling at highway speeds for extended periods of time. Usually occurs after driving for an hour or more. Dealer reports that no tire problems found and resets indicator. Indicator must be reset by dealer, or it will continue its annoying blinking.
