Was driving along at approximately 25 mph and had a major sudden failure of the right rear tire.
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota 4runner equipped with falken tires, tire line: wildpeak, tire size: 275/70/r17, dot: (n/a). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel and driver's seat began to vibrate violently, prompting the contact to dramatically reduce the speed of the vehicle, but the failure persisted. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the four tires. The independent mechanic found an abnormally heavy spot on all four tires, preventing the tires from being properly balanced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened; however, the manufacturer provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 23,000.

Yokohama 245/60r20 geolander g96 that came with my brand new 2021 Toyota 4runner limited I purchased in December 2020. Over the last several weeks every 7 to 10 days I have needed to put air in all 4 tires. Then I was driving on a smooth paved street arriving at work my low pressure warning light came on. I got out and had a flat tire. I found the inner sidewall failed at only 28,000 miles. I didn’t hit anything on the road, or hit a curb etc. Just normal driving on paved roads. Putting on the spare I took my 4runner to the Toyota dealership a few miles away. The service technician at our local Toyota dealer today stated they, “are seeing this issue as a common problem with this particular tire on Toyota 4runners in our colorado cold climate, is causing the rubber to become excessively brittle. Even with normal use, the smallest stones/sand used in our highway plows/sanding trucks cause catastrophic premature tire failure. They may be fine for use in California warm clients but not here in colorado. ” this explains why recently every 7 to 10 days I have needed to put additional air in all 4 tires. The rubber is prematurely becoming brittle/rot in cold weather thus not properly sealing the air. The technician recommended going with 4 new tires from a different manufacturer, stating the problem will continue with the other 3 yokohama tires and likely a new yokohama tire as well. He agreed the tire should be recalled as this is unacceptable especially for a tire with a m+s (mud and snow rating), only 28,000 miles on and properly taken care of. At $400+ per tire this is a huge expense and clearly a huge safety issue in cold climates. In cold weather having to refill tires with air every 7 to 10 days is a real hassle as well. Good thing I have my own air compressor at home. I only drive with the correct air pressure per my owners manual as stated on my drivers door. The Toyota dealer drew a white chalk square around the tire failure area.

These tires are not safe. They do not provide adequate traction on dry or wet surfaces. They are extremely slippery and dangerous. They spin when accelerating from a stop at a traffic light on both dry and wet roads. I've had numerous instances where they've spun my wheels or caused my car to fishtail. Yesterday, they caused a serious and scary incident with my son in the car. We were put in a situation where we could have been seriously injured or killed. While turning left at a signal at low speed the tires slipped and caused my car to go sideways in different directions. After the last slide my car jumped a curb and we ended up in a grass area along the side of the road. Luckily, I was able to control the vehicle and not over correct the wheel. We were at risk of hitting a speed sign, having other cars run into us or running into opposite traffic. These tires should be recalled! they are tbc thunderer r007s made by tbc corp.

Recently became the owner of 04 4runner with what we thought at first glance were new tires. After poor driving conditions and checking the tires we found both front tires with tread chunking off in medium pieces and are unsafe. Both rear tires are fine. We live on a pretty small island where daily drives are at most probably 50 miles max if that. These tires are complete crap and need to be recalled before someone gets hurt. I will never run a michelin tire again due to this. Obviously the company cares more about profit than lives. P165 70r17 latitute tour dot b7kp 004x 1014.

We bought 4 new sumitomo tour plus lxt tires for our 2008 Toyota 4runner in June of 2013. Two years and 50,000 miles later, we felt a severe wobble in the tires and took the car to the shop. The two rear tires had separating belts and were replaced. Four months later, the two front tires exhibited the same problems. Another tire shop mechanic (different shop and mechanic than who diagnosed the first two tires) said the belts in the tires were separating and these two tires were also replaced.

2009 michelin latitude tour all season luxury tires p265/70r16 were purchased at costco 12/16/09. We went to our mechanic on 2/17/15 for a vibration problem on front end of our 1998 Toyota 4-runner. After inspection he informed us that our tires were cracked on side wall. In addition the road force balance test shows severe runout on front tires and we should replace all 4 tires. We have only put 18,000 miles on these tires. My tires don't fall under the recalls but this doesn't seem right for that kind of failure to occur with such low milage.

I purchased 4 yokohama geolander h/t-s on a local repair shop on 02/2013. I took my vehicle in for my annual state safety inspection this year on 02/2015 I was told and it was brought to my attention that my tire are cracking between the inside and the outside treads. This tread separation cracking is an unsafe condition. The shop contacted tire company that supplied them the tire and they said they would only credit me 35% of the original tire price they would be replaced with another yokohama tire. These tires are 2 years old and have 30,000 miles on them. It seems I am being put in danger if I dont have them replaced and seems I am getting ripped off if I do have them replaced.

Wrangler p265/70r16 tire I had been putting air in two of the four tires for the last six months every week. There is a defect in the rubber above thread and in the riggs on the tire I was told by two tire repair store (goodyear being the second ) could not be repaired where located. On the10th of March my tire was flat down to the rim and during the ice black out (no heat for 3 days) no car to go anywhere to get out of the cold then being told by goodyear / dealer they could not exchange or rebate anything on a new tire. I have three more tires that I am worried about having too replaced and good year refuses to do recall or compensate myself or others for clearly defective tires ! I paid $157. 48 for another tire which should have still been under warranty and replaced free of charge!! I don't do a lot of driving. 2001 vehicle and190,00 miles . I am on fixed income and worried about coming out finding another flat tire that is defective. Pls. Issue a recall and make goodyear be a honest business and recall what they know are defective tires wrangler p265/70r16. My tires are almost like new verry little wear. I have pictures ! I am afraid for my life as well as others if these tires collapse while we are driving and not sittin still. My family has been notified (also contact with you) if anything happens to me regarding these tires ! do the right thing and recall theses almost new tires !! (tread wise)before someone is killed or seriously hurt for life ! thank you for your quick response I am almost afraid to drive my car, but have no other choice !! scared to drive.

On July 7, 2012, I was driving my 1996 Toyota 4-runner when the rear driver side tire failed. The four tires were dunlop grand trek at21 p265170r16 (111s m+s 014814), purchased new and installed in June 2007. I drive less than 8,000 miles per year on this vehicle. The mileage on the failed tire was only 25,843 miles. It was properly inflated. I did not strike any object on the freeway. The SUV was in excellent running order and well maintained. At the time of the tire failure, I was traveling 70 mph on interstate I-80 in iowa on my way from kansas city to chicago. The accident occurred at milepost 287. 5, west of davenport, iowa. I tried to control the SUV, but I struck the median made of steel posts and anti-crossover cables, first sustaining damage to the driver?s side of the vehicle. Then, the SUV hit a pothole in the median and spun 180 degrees striking the post and cable barrier median again with the other side of the vehicle which bent the frame and cause major damage to all body panels on the passenger's side. I came to rest along the median facing backwards, in the direction of the oncoming traffic. Luckily, I did not hit any other vehicle, and my passenger sustained only a very sore knee that bumped against the dashboard. The iowa state patrol arrived and handled the situation (report and photos available). The SUV was towed to a garage where both rear tires were replaced and the body metal was pulled out. -- the mechanic at the store said it appeared that the bad tire may have delaminated before completely failing, and from the very good condition of the other 3 tires, it was probably defective. -- the SUV was drivable the next day despite the extensive body damage to nearly all body panels. The body work was estimated at $7,026 and the vehicle was totaled by my insurance company. I reported the tire failure and accident to dunlop/goodyear, which said they could do nothing at all because I did not keep the failed tire.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota 4runner, equipped with cooper discoverer atr tires, size: 265/65/17. The contact was traveling 55 mph when a vibrating sound emitted from the tires. The contact confirmed that the front passenger side tire was flat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed the failure was caused by tread separation. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 52,000.
I purchased 4 sumitomo all terrain 110 tires on 3/04/2011. On September 29, 2011 the driver rear tire exploded creating a visible hole.
Goodyear dunlop grand trek tg35 p265/70r16 tire. On August 19, 2011, I was driving on I-10 in FL at approximately 65 miles per hour. The car suddenly got very bumpy and in a matter of seconds, the rear right tire exploded on my Toyota 4runner. I lost control of the vehicle but managed to finally pull off to the side of the interstate. After examining the damages to my vehicle, I noticed that the tread on the right rear tire completely separated all the way around the tire. Luckily, the car did not flip or collide with another vehicle. I sustained psychological and emotional injuries and over $2000 worth of damages to my car as a result of the blowout. My car only has 36k miles on it and is always kept in the garage. The tread on all 4 tires is practically brand new as it is driven seldomly, with regular tire rotation/balance/maintenance. There should not be any reason for a tire with this little wear and tear to explode the way it did. I have done a lot of research and realize that this could have had a far worse outcome, and that the tires are indeed defective. In addition, my insurance company will not cover the expenses of the tires. Now I am forced to replace all 4 tires out of pocket for fear of the same scenario and not as lucky of an outcome if this happens again. In my research, I also saw that NHTSA has opened an investigation into possible tread separation problems involving dunlop tires sold as standard equipment on 1995-1999 Nissan pathfinder suvs. Nhtsa says it has received six reports of injuries in two rollover crashes that were blamed on tread separations on the grandtrek tg35 tire. I feel that unless I sustained life-long injuries, paralysis, or death would the tire manufacturer come forward with any goodwill or compensation.

2006 Toyota 4runner sport, 4. 0l 4wd. Vibration felt via steering wheel, which occurs during acceleration/deceleration and across wide speed range. Higher frequency, low amplitude quality. Felt when vehicle is traveling in straight line, but has changed speed and is felt when steering wheel is turned slightly off center as in small course corrections. When accelerating or decelerating, there seems to be resonant feedback felt through the steering wheel as if there is directing contacting the steering rod. Dealer attempted to correct with an alignment of the frontend and rotation and balance of the tires/wheels. The result is that the original sensation is still present and the corrective attempt was not effective.

This complaint concerns the new 2010 Toyota 4runner. There is an issue with the braking system and handling for this vehicle. Upon depressing the brakes, the pedal travels a considerable distance sounds squeaky and notchy and delays in stopping. The anti-lock brakes do not interact quickly and often times engaged at the very end of the brake distance and creates a very uncomfortable and unsettling feeling. The height clearance is also a concern because when cross winds hit the vehicle it creates a very unsettling feeling and causes the vehicle to sway and get under the vehicle making prone to loss control. That wind does not have to be excessive; the mildest of winds will cause a disruption. Several measures have been taken to have a local Toyota dealership review and address the issue and they have come back and stated that it operates according to specifications. No one other than Toyota knows of those specifications and they will not disclose them until enough people highlight this issue by complaining. To add further insult to injury, Toyota has placed an administrative hold on any repairs unless they sanction it. In one of the latest uses, I had a deer cross my path and I tried to stop and the vehicle kept moving along and the brakes grabbed after 12 feet. I missed the deer but I was forced to relive the issue of how faulty the brakes are for this vehicle. It reinforced the issues with the braking system. We need for Toyota to own up to this hidden defect. The electrical systems in these vehicles seem to control every operating aspect of the vehicle and that appears at issue as well. Salvaged cars and cars that were involved in accidents are being passed off as clean preowned safe cars. The carfax states one thing but the mechanics are finding the lies and the attempted cover ups. Major world located at 43-40 northern blvd. Long island city NY. Showed me a beautiful carfax that did not tell the truth. I found out later after I paid a mobile mechanic 191. 00 to check the car out. The manager admitted to the mechanic that the car was a salvage car and was in an accident. If I knew anything about an accident, I would have automatically passed this SUV (2000 Toyota 4-runner) up. I would not have hired a mechanic. I am on disability and live on a fixed income. I passed up my ambulette service at their suggestion to wait for the mechanics arrival. They promised to pay my cab fare home. They lied. Something needs to be done about this dealership. I am out of $201. 00 because of their lies. The vehicle suddenly bent to the right, out of control, then hit the divider as a result of a broken axle. It was found that the axle center was totally broken as a result of the tire going out. The consumer experience emotional strees as a result of the accident.
I continue to have a problem with tire/steering wheel vibrations in my 2003 Toyota 4-runner sport edition. The problem occurs after the vehicle has been sitting overnight, or all day long in a parking garage. The pulsing and steering wheel vibrations occur between 60 and 65 mph, disappear at about 70 mph and resume at 65 mph. After approximately 5 to 10 miles the problem dissipates. The dealer says the tires are balanced and alligned. The dealer states the problem is caused by "fiberglass belts" in the dunlap tires that form a "set. " a regional tire chain specialist states this is "nonsense. " they suggest symptoms and fact it always occurs at the same speed suggests improperly balanced tires or allignment, or tires "out of round," however the fact the problem disappears after driving suggests these are not the problem. I understand the Lexus version of this vehicle has a similar problem and auto magazines note a problem with "engine vibrations.
I own a 2003 Toyota 4 runner 10000 miles, dunlop grand trek tires 265/70r16. In less then 2 weeks I have had 2 flats in the right, passenger tire due to stones. In one tire I have 2 patches, I have a complaint into goodyear for a new tire.
While driving 25 mph rear passenger's side tire separated from the vehicle. As a result, vehicle rolled over. Upon impact, air bags failed to deploy.
The tires were disintegrating and caused the vehicle to ride extremely rough and choppy. The tires felt less smooth. Firestone admitted that the tires felt choppy and refused replacement. The problem worsened as time went on.

The first tire that the tread came off was while traveling on the freeway - July, 2002. No damage to the vehicle or myself. Tow truck driver came out and changed the tire. Went to discount tire to have the tire replaced, they replaced it at no cost. When I asked if the others were safe, they said yes, leaving the other desert dog tires on. August, 2003 - driving on the freeway again with my husband, we felt a vibration, pulled off to the side of the road and found that the tread had come off once again. Had that replaced at discount tire, where they didn't mention again that there was a recall on the remaining desert dog tire on the vehicle. October, 2003 - my husband was driving on the freeway, traveling about 75 mph, felt a tire go down, this time causing the vehicle to pull right, then back to the left. Then there was total loss of control as he veered down into the median where the vehicle rolled 6 - 8 times. Once again, the tread had separated causing what could have resulted in his death. Luckily, he did not have any serious injuries. The vehicle is totalled. There was a recall on these tires from pirelli on June 7, 2001. The recall states that pirelli would notify their distributors. Discount tire should not have let us drive away from their location with those tires!!.
Problem: steering whell vibration at speeds of 60mph and up. Purchased on 8/2/03. Returned to the delaer on 8/12/03 to have all tires balanced and a full alignment; problem still exists. Returned to dealer on 8/14/03 to have the tires speed matched to the rims. When I picked up my 4runner I was told the vibration was still present and that I should upgrade my tires from dunlop grandtrek at20 265/65/17 to michelin cross terain tires. The dealer offered to buy two tires and I would buy the remainig three (including spare) at $199. 95 each with no guarantee that the michelins would solve the vibration problem. Left my 4runner and asked the dealer to contact the Toyota representative for assiatnce to repair the vehicle. Toyota offered to buy another tire. I told the dealer that they and Toyota should replace the tires at no cost. Was told by the dealer customer relations manager that they ordered the dunlops instead of the michelns that are avaiable from the factory as original equipment. Cr manager checked with the dealers general manger who offered no further assiatance. Now sitting in my garage with 456 miles on the odometer. Next step lemon law suit as car is not safe to drive at highway speeds. I was told by the dealer service representative and customer relations manager that they have had other 2003 4runner customers with the same complaint concerning the steering wheel vibration at highway speeds.
P265-65r17, dunlop grand trek tire collapsed while driving to work in an 03 Toyota 4-runner. Speed was approximately 50 mph. No road hazard was encountered. No loud explosion. Tire just suddenly went flat. Tire separated 360 degrees around front of rim. Tire is completely intact on back side of rim. Toyota dealership says they have never had a report of any problem with these tires. They refused to replace tire and referred me to dunlop. They told me that the rest of the tires, to include the spare, now mounted, are safe for driving.
Tire exploded while driving 70 mph along straight highway, 10:30 am, outside temperature 85 f, tread separated, tire disintegrated quickly.
