The front of my car directly went crash into that concrete barrier in a perpendicular position, making a full frontal contact, that release both front airbags. Failure Date: 07/17/2000

When I bought this vehicle, I did not want firestone tires on the vehicle, but the dealer said the truck tires were fine. (I had had a firststone tire come apart on my 98 corolla on the highway which put my son in the ditch with some 250 dollars worth of damage to the car. ) the latest incident was the 4 runner firestone at11 lost air rapidly on the highway with my son but he was able to slow down quickly before it flattened completely. . The tire dealer said it was a punture in the side wall but I do not believe it. This tire had less than 06000 miles on it. I am going to change out the this set of tires and spend 400 dollars for my son's safety. (I took the firestone tires of the corolla at 3000 miles because of the incident). Its sad but their tires are inferior and anyone who drives on them are at risk. ( dot number: tire size: 225x75x15 ).

26 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 1998 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 01/17/2000

The tire tread peeled off the tire. I have had blow outs before, but have never seen anything like this. Firestone did not hesitate to replace it. They did so under their road hazard claim. The tread on the tire was excellent, was properly inflated and maintained. I did not hit any objects on the highway and firestone found no foreign objects inside the tire when they broke it down. I can't and won't wait for any settlements as tire safety is more important then the engine under the hood. I will have these replaced but not with firestone tires. Can you offer me any advice as how to proceed? I have also reported this to Toyota through their customer relations assistance line. Thanks. ( dot number: tire size: p225/75r15 ).

27 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 1996 Toyota 4Runner

Failure Date: 12/24/1999

Tire failed while at highway speeds. Tread separated from tire and was lost (couldn't see it at night). Location was on interstate 15 just south of barstow California. Temperature was approximately in the in low 50s. Before the tire failue, I felt a vibration in the vehicle for a few miles, which gradually grew larger. Suddenly the sound of the car changed drastically (as the tread separated, I presume) and I heard much road noise. At first I thought that the road had changed its surface from asphalt to something more noisy, like a "chip-sealed" road surface with oil and cinders, but then I heard more noise and a bit of sideways shaking, and I pulled over. I never felt the car pull sideways at all, or even slow down (but, the cruise control was on). When I pulled over, I had driven a good 1/4 mile or so on the failed tire. I don't know when it lost air pressure, but by the time I got off the road, I could see that there was no tread, and that the remaining surface of the tire had been sliced by the rim, as it rolled on the tire once pressure was lost. I never thought about this tire failure until the publicized reports of similar failures on similar sized tires of the same make and model. I suspect the issue with the p235 sized firestone tires may well apply to other sizes, such as my p225 tires. We are going to replace all of our remaining tires with new ones, and will hold on to the old ones, in case of a recall on that size. ( dot number: tire size: p225/75r15 ).

All four tires were replaced with wilderness at iii 31x10. 50r-15 tires which have the same rough ride as the original equipment 265/75r-15 wilderness tires. The firestone dealer rep said that it was normal for those tires to ride that rough. They ride as if the tires have bulges on them yet they do not. I have owned other brands of off road tires with simular designed tread and they did not ride near as rough as these do. I am concerned as to whether these tires may also be defective as are the others that have been in the news lately. The dot numbers are as follows vd60 aw4. Thank you for attention.
