1 Body problem of the 2013 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/25/2024

I recently took my car in for maintenance and I was offered a complimentary car wash. 1 week after the wash, I noticed there were cloth fibers stuck between the rear side body panels. When I pulled them out, there was evidence of rust and corrosion right underneath. I suspected the cloth fibers were from the dealership's car wash so I contacted them. They confirmed the fibers are from their machine but claimed the rust is caused by a pre-existing problem (there is a small gap between the side body that was noted in the pre-inspections), when asked if the rust was noted during pre-inspections as well, they refused to answer my question. There was no evidence of rust or corrosion on the car before this incident and there are other fibers stuck in the side body panels as well which I haven't taken out yet. I have previously taken my car through car washes but this incident has never happened before. Toyota's service center refuses to look into the matter further.

4 Body problem of the 2018 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/19/2023

Hello, my name is angel. I bought my car from longo Toyota in el monte about 15 months ago. The car was certified preowned and had a carfax report with no accident reported history. That is exactly why I bought the car, because this was going to be my family car. So I bought it and have been driving around my daughter, who just turned one for over a year. I also work as a behavioral therapist and drive around kids with autism in my car on a daily basis. It wasn’t until I decided to trade in my car that it was discovered that the Avalon car has frame damage, which was discovered by third-party. A car condition expert came to check out the car and discovered the frame damage by using a true frame meter and a paint meter. Now longo Toyota in el monte has gave me the go around and hasn't even checked for frame damage. Longo Toyota is asking me how much would I want for my car and asking me about my car's value. There is clear fraud going on, and the fact that this is the largest car dealership in the country makes me wonder how many more people are driving around in cars that have frame damage as well. Best regards, angel.

5 Body problem of the 2019 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/03/2023

The sunroof of my 2019 Toyota Avalon is defective. It is available for inspection upon request. My safety, as well as the safety of my passengers, has been put at risk. My problem has been confirmed by sheehy Toyota of fredericksburg. No warning lamps or messages to indicate sunroof problem. The driver side of my sunroof keeps clogging. I first took my vehicle to Toyota sheehy of fredericksburg on 1/3/2023. Sunroof tray was found to have a buildup of organic detritus, causing drains of sunroof tray to be clogged and allowing rainwater to spill over into interior. Sheehy technician cleared the sunroof tray and drains of organic material. Drains were now flowing properly. Technician claimed that sunroof would not have to be drained for at least two years. There was standing water and a heavy mildew smell in the car. Sheehy refused to clean/drain carpet of water. I took it to a detailer and had the detailer vacuum and clean the carpet. Less than a month later, I started experiencing the same issues -- wet carpeting on the floorboard. I took my vehicle to sheehy Toyota of fredericksburg on 2/7/2023. Technician told me that the driver side of the sunroof was clogged. Technician claimed that he fixed the clogged drain of the sunroof. Technician suggested that my sunroof got clogged because I have only driven my car 140 miles this month. Not a rational explanation. He recommended that I replace the carpet due to mold concerns. Why would I replace the carpet if there is a strong possibility of having wet carpet every few weeks? technician insists that wet floor is not coming from any source other than the sunroof. I suspect that my sunroof is defective. I should not have to worry about wet carpet in my car everyday that we experience rainshowers. Sheehy Toyota insists that nothing is wrong with the structural integrity of the sunroof and that external factors are to blame.

My dashboard has a tear over the airbag on the front passenger side. I took it to the Toyota dealership on franklin st. In hempstead before the covid 19 virus shut down. I was informed that since there's no recall on my vehicle, I would have to pay out of pocket to change the dashboard cover. I think it's a safety issue since this happened through no fault of my own. The vehicle is in mint condition and runs like new because I take care of my cars. Please help.

13 Body problem of the 2015 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 11/14/2019

The body of the car, clunks when making a right or left turn while leaving the road and entering a slightly raised or lowered entry. A very clear clunk sound occcurs emanating from the overhead, just behind the driver's seat. It doesn't happen every time, but is increasing in frequency. I don't know if this is or will be a safety risk. This has not been witnessed or confirmed by Toyota and cannot be verified by inspection because it is inaccessible, behind the overhead. It first occurred and was reported around the 50,000mi servicing.

14 Body problem of the 2019 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/15/2019

My husband, an 84 year old, was driving the car and got into a double accident. First, he was parked in a parking lot and he got in the car and backed up. As he backed up he hit a vehicle parked behind him causing that vehicle to hit two other vehicles. (please note: we are still waiting for full police report for information as to exactly how far he would have backed, but I believe not much more than 1 to 2 car lengths. ) this car had the Toyota care package installed, which included the safe backing features to slow a vehicle when backing and another object is blocking the path. My question - what happened to these safety features. My husband left that accident and drove about 1 block down the street, running the end of the yellow light and into red light, and hit the right rear of another vehicle. His vehicle then drove out-of-control into the corner planter and hit a sign, which then fell onto two vehicles. It is my understanding that after he hit the tail of the vehicle, his vehicle sped up into that planter area. Again, the vehicle is equipped with the safety features that are supposed to slow or stop the vehicle - but didn't. My husband was in the wrong - and should not have been driving. However, he was the one hurt the worst with 7 broken ribs, a broken femur, a broken nose, an injury to the spleen and bleeding on the brain. My concern is the functioning of the safety features that Toyota dealers are touting about the vehicles.

15 Body problem of the 2014 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 06/03/2019

While driving on the street, the glass on the sun roof suddenly shattered with a loud explosion with large shards of glass, the shade was closed. Thank god, this happened today. Will take it in tomorrow.

16 Body problem of the 2007 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 05/30/2019

Rear window shade went up and now won't go down. I took the car to the dealer a few months ago and they were able to put it down. When they told me the cost of repairing/replacing, I opted to just not use it. A few weeks ago, it went up again and I am not able to see anything at night, took to the dealer again to see if they could put it down again and I was told I need to change the motor ( almost $1000) so I was not able to do it. I told them I cant see at night and they didn't do anything about it. I feel they need to take a look at this issue because it is a safety issue not being able to see your rear window.

19 Body problem of the 2016 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

On October 1, 2018, at 8:25 a. M. I was pulling into a parking space at work in my 2016 Avalon (12,141 miles). I was riding the brake to pull all the way into the parking space. The car took off into landscape, crossed a road and went down a hill. I hit the parking lot and was knocked to my side. The car went back up the hill and crossed the road again, went through more landscape, bushes, etc. Back into the road again and stopped. There was over 11,000 damage to my car and I hurt my back and neck. Toyota examined the black box and said the gas pedal was being strongly depressed with no braking. That is impossible because after I hit the parking lot after coming down the embankment, my foot flew off the brake and was on nothing as I was all the way on my right side. 2nd incident yesterday, on 03/16/19, I was pulling into a gas station and was almost stopped after tapping the brake to get pulled up to where I was to stop and the exact same thing happened as my foot was on the brake, the car took off towards the gas pump. I was pressing the brake as hard as I could and was trying to grab the gear shift to put into park. I only went about 20-30 feet before the car stopped missing the gas pump by only about 1 and 1/2 feet. I can't say for sure if the brakes stopped the car or if I was able to get it into park. I had the car towed to my home and will never drive this car again. I am not sure what I am going to do because the car is far from paid for and I know Toyota will be of no help. I know for sure that eventually someone is going to be killed as I truly believe this is not just happening to me. After the first incident, I sent a certified letter to the president of Toyota and their legal department and their reply was Toyota was not at fault.

20 Body problem of the 2014 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/16/2018

Car was parked outside for couple days under a heavy rain. Next day, when it was hot and sunny, I opened car's door and inside of the car was all humid and steamy. There was a musty scent as well. After checking the car I found some water in the left side of the trunk. Dealer service department after two day diagnostics told me that one of sunroof drain tubes is detached and that caused a leak inside the car. I think it presents both driving safety and health safety issues: - I wear glasses and because of the humid and steamy atmosphere in the car - my glasses kept fogging up and I had to stop couple times to clear them. Condition got better, but did not improve much after air conditioning in the car run for some time. - health concern is related to a mold that can accumulate in the car because of these leaks. It might cause allergic reactions or asthma. I think car manufacturer should either use better materials for these drains, so they do not deteriorate with time or change the design of sunroof drain system.

25 Body problem of the 2008 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 08/14/2017

Our 2008 Toyota Avalon was rammed from the rear with full force from a Honda crv going 40 mph. The Avalon was slowing down to allow a groundhog to cross on a straight 2 lane road at the time, but the driver of the Honda behind seems to have been a distracted driver because she did not stop accelerating. The driver of the Avalon suffered head, neck, back and hip injuries and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The damage to both vehicles is extensive-pictures of the Avalon attached. The Honda airbag deployed, saving that driver from injury. The airbag of the Toyota did not deploy-clearly malfunctioning and could have prevented some of the injuries if it had deployed properly. There is a police report but it is not available to us yet. The insurance companies are working on the claim. No repairs have been made yet and it is not clear whether it is 'totaled'.

28 Body problem of the 2013 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

The main issue with this vehicle I noticed on March 10 2017and scheduled an apointment on March 15 2017. Is the headliner has separated and falling down behind my moonroof or sunroof opening leaving a gap. Push it back up and it pops back loose. It looks like the two dual lock fasteners have failed on both sides. They look more like stick on pads trying to hold up something that is too heavy. Per the maintenance technician the bullentin pertaining to this repair calls for replacement of dual lock fasteners and the additional of a magnet affixed to the headliner. Repair procedure requires 3 hours for prep, operation steps and curing of epoxy for $300. 00 fix. With 18,235 miles on my car it shouldn't be coming apart now. If you knew this was a problem why didn't you informed the customers before investing because I would of left it on the lot. Why should I have to spend money for a workaround that doesn't work. Something needs to be done about this problem beside you can't fix it or haven't found the right workaround.
