Collision with another vehicle while making a left turn. Driver's upper and lower (knee) airbags deployed. Driver incurred severe cuts to both legs below the knee approximately half way down to ankle. Cause of injuries has not been determined but inspection of vehicle disclosed that the knee airbag containment compartment in the low part of the dash has a flap/door that opens in deployment, is very extremely sharp and may have been the source of the injuries.

Was driving on beltway in washington, DC. Another vehcile was driving at a high rate of speed in an attempt to merge on the beltway when he clipped my vehicle. My vehicle spun around on beltway and hit guardrails at high rate of speed twice. Both front and back bumpers were completely torn apart in addition to huge dent in driver's side door. Front or side airbags did not deploy.

My drivers door lost a nut on the top bolt of the door closing mechanism. The door began to click when opened and closed. Within a week the bottom nut of the same door closing mechanism began to pull through the metal. Toyota dealership refused to repair it and sent me to a body shop. The body shop manager told me he had seen this same issue lately on a lot of Toyotas. I had to pay for my repairs when it was caused by normal door opening and closing. No excessive use or incident such as wind was involved I have owned this car since it was new. I'm not sure if it is an issue with how tightly Toyota is putting the bits on or an issue with a part, but it causes damage and costly repairs. Toyota should be accountable.

I rear ended car and the lower airbag deployed striking me just below by knees. My right leg developed a hematoma from the airbag deployment and required surgery. I still have a large depressed area on my leg, a scar, tenderness and darkening of the skin, all which will require further surgery to repair.

Unexplained cracks in a number of areas of dashboard, which has been polished and maintained regularly. Have had Toyota Avalons before, 2000, 2005, and Toyota cars since 1973 (corona, camry etc. ) but have never experienced this type damage. Told dealership. They say not under warranty. Told it will cost $5,00 to repair do I have a any ground?.
While driving south on a city street midday, in sunny clear conditions, suddenly experienced the suns glare from at least 3 spots on shiny chrome covered dashboard all at same time, from different spots, blinding and distracting me and almost making me run a red light since I could barely see. It was like 3 suns in my face. Chrome is mirror like, quite thick, and at an angle that causes sun to reflect straight into your eyes when it's midday and the sun shines down through windshield from overhead. I had to break hard when I noticed light was red at the last minute. Almost caused me to run the red light.

I was involved in a collision where my passenger side front tire came off of a ledge in a construction zone at which point I lost control of the vehicle. There was no barrier in place on that side. I chose to direct my vehicle toward the mud pit on the right of the road. I corrected to the right causing the vehicle to go off of the road and nose dive through the first mud/dirt embankment. I expected the airbags to deploy on both side and front taking the speed and force of the collision with the first embankment and the yaw of the vehicle in the air. I was attempting to control the vehicle still at this time at which point I had now landed rear bumper first and a bit sideways on a 2nd embankment. This then launches the front of the vehicle airborne finally coming to rest in a mud and gravel drive way of an individual who lives off of the highway. The vehicle lost all of it's transmission fluid almost immediately through some opening in the bottom of the vehicle and the headlights were not damaged but after further researched I had determined that the impact sensors are actually located in the front bumper of the vehicle. 2 were injured in the accident which were myself, the driver, and my driver's side rear passenger who was wearing a seat belt but not properly. She had the lap portion of the belt on but the shoulder portion behind her. She is a 20 year old adult female. I am a 19 year old male and had mine on properly. She hit her head twice on my headrest. I was thrown into the side of my door and then the steering wheel, then back against the door resulting in bruised ribs. If the vehicle's airbag system were to have deployed properly there would have been a barrier between me and the door which caused my bruised ribs on my left side. There is a known airbag recall on my vehicle for which Toyota which I have not been notified of a solution for at this time.
The hood latch will not latch or, often, latches but incompletely so that with aerodynamic loads it unlatches. The hood position is then dependent on the secondary latch which is marginal. I have every reason to expect this is a common problem with aging Toyota Avalons and will, or has, result in a loss of control accident. The problem does not respond to normal maintenance and lubrication.
The dashboard has developed several cracks all across it. And the tape between the windshield and dashboard has also come loose and is peeling away from the interior base of the glass. At the time I made a complaint to the dealer but they told me to call Toyota because I would have to pay for fixing it myself as they could do nothing.
It was daylight at approximately 3 pm local time. We were on good interstate road with moderate traffic and dry payment. We were on I-65 about 10 miles south of franklin, TN. My wife and I were the only passengers in our vehicle and we were both wearing seat belts. We are the original vehicle owner and the vehicle has been well maintained. We were not impaired and had stopped for a rest break and a driver change 15 minutes earlier. She was driving, I was in the front passenger seat. We were in the left lane. The driver immediately in front us in the right lane suddenly swerved into our lane for reasons unknown. We had traffic to our immediate right so the only place available for my wife to avoid was the left edge of the highway which is where she went. The left shoulder was rough due to recent construction in the area. She lost control and we spun out in the grassy medium without hitting anything. She was unhurt. My right clavicle was broken in two places with the two breaks the width of the shoulder belt apart which is assumed to be the proximate cause of the break. I was evacuated by ambulance to the nearest trauma center and had surgery two weeks later to repair my clavicle. It took surgery, the largest clavicle plate they make, and 10 screws to put my shoulder back together. Our air bags did not fire. Our seat belt pre-tensioners did not fire. The other vehicle fled the scene. Our car was repaired at a state farm certified repair center.

The contact merged to the shoulder and noticed that the front driver's side bumper was loose. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was advised that the front bumper cover, front fender liner and the engine bottom cover needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 4,847. Updated 11/19/lj.
As I was wiping down my dashboard I noticed a fine hairline crack about an inch long. Within a week it grew another 2 inches. Now approximately two months since I noticed the first crack I have another crack in a different spot. This crack is about an inch and a half long. Both are in the area of the air back. My car is in perfect condition as I have always done the recommended maintenance and I keep my car parked in a garage at home and at work. I am extremely disappointed that my top of the line Avalon is turning to crap!.
I had went to my local dealership plaza Toyota in brooklyn NY to have them take a look at the rear headliner that had been coming down. I was told that my appointment was too late in the evening so I had to set an earlier appoint which would be the following Monday after the holiday. I dropped my car off at about 9am on July 8th and picked it up about 6:30pm that day only to have been told that they rotated the tires. . . Which was laughable because I was never called and told that the problem with my rear headliner could not be fixed that day. I was told by my service adviser that they needed approval from the district manager because the repairs were quite costly and it takes up to 30 days in most instances to get approval. I immediately filed a complaint with Toyota headquarters and nyc bbb. The dealership called me back in a few days and assured me that the problem would be fixed when I came back in the country from vacation. I contacted the dealership in mid August only to have been told that the repairs were denied because the pictures show that the headliner was tampered with and voided the warranty. I again filed another complaint with Toyota headquarters and nyc bbb only this time I was given the opportunity to go to arbitration with national center for dispute settlement. I also have correspondence from the dealership via voicemail and the response they gave bbb that I voided the warranty. The funny thing about this is when the dealership received notification that I had requested an arbitration they immediately started to call my phone every day for 2 consecutive weeks because they know they were wrong to deny my claim and fix the car for free. Now they are facing the fact they may have to give me a full refund for the vehicle or a comparable car. . . . . Idiots.
The headliner is falling in my car. I have waited a month to get the problem fixed yet it has not been fixed. The back of my chair is also falling.
Headliner is falling down in back by rear window. Problem was reported to Toyota. I am told Toyota is working on a fix for it but it will be a while before a resolution is found. As a good will gesture Toyota tacked up the headliner in the middle where it was falling down. A few days later the headliner began to fall down on both sides where it was tacked up by the rear window. I was then told, they were afraid that would happen. Toyota has no resolution and will not replace the headliner or vehicle. I am told by Toyota that this is a common problem. However, as they cannot repair the vehicles that have this problem it sounds like they are still selling vehicles with this defect to unsuspecting customers. Although you can still see out the rear window, who knows for how much longer before it just gives way. As Toyota will not/or can not repair this issue, and will not replace the headliner or the vehicle they really aren't honoring the warranty either. In an effort to try to resolve this issue, I could not get past the claim representative at headquarters nor the factory rep. Evidently, management will not speak with customers and no one will respond by e-mail.
Serious problem: 2013 Toyota Avalon dashboard trim causes a dangerous reflection of sunlight directly into driver'¿¿s eyes. During mid-day sun, blinding beams of sunlight bounce off several areas of the mirrored-chrome-colored plastic trim that surrounds the dashboard and wraps around the instrument cluster. Sunlight is reflected off chrome trim beneath the tachometer and speedometer. Blinding sunlight also reflects off trim on both sides of the steering wheel, and other points across the trim. Depending on time of day and direction of car, sunlight bounces off different places on the trim. Because the trim is beveled, instead of a vertical surface, it focuses the sunlight directly back into the driver'¿¿s eyes. Drivers need to regularly glance down at the instrument cluster and reflected sunlight from that area and other sections on the dash is dangerously distracting. Accidents could occur as a result of drivers being momentarily blinded by their dashboard trim. Toyota needs to replace the mirrored surface of the trim, as well as other chrome trim on the steering wheel and around the air conditioning vents, with a dark-colored trim or matte, non-reflective surface. Despite similar complaints posted at the NHTSA and my direct contact with Toyota motors USA, the company refused to offer a solution and/or temporary work-around for retro-fitting the trim with a non-reflective surface. The company told me it does not acknowledge there is a problem with sunlight reflecting into driver's¿¿ eyes from the trim. Thus, no problem means no need for a solution. This needs to be investigated by the NHTSA. Because the problem occurs in 2013 models of Toyota Avalon currently being sold in dealerships, the buying public needs to know about it. Further, Toyota needs to be prompted to take corrective action to prevent unnecessary injuries or fatalities in the future.

The VIN was not included. The failure and current mileage was 90,000. Rvk.
2013 Avalon touring on April 2013 experience with this car hasnt been very good considering that it is a new car. There was an issue with the leather on the back seat buckling and a stain that was on the headliner in the driver'¿s side rear area because of a water leak from the roof. It was taken to clintã¢s auto trim to correct the leather. He felt it was a water stain that was the result of water leaking from an area on the roof that wasn'¿t sealed correctly. Based on what we heard from clint'¿s auto trim, we tested the car by placing water on the car over the area where the stain was present. It revealed a new water stain on the headliner. We immediately took it to service about our finding. The car was taken to stephen¿s auto glass to fix the leak. The stain on the headliner was cleaned. However, the stain can still be seen. We requested that the headliner be replaced because of the stain. However, my wife is having issues with her eyes burning and nose running while in the car due to the smell of mildew. We turned our car in for service yesterday to get the headliner replaced. Now, they tell us that the headliner is too short to install. So another one will have to be ordered. So our car will have stay until Tuesday. I am highly upset that a brand new car has so many issues. First, it was the leather, then a water leak, and the headliner is too short from the factory. Problems just continue to stack on top of one another. The Toyota experience hardly lives up what is stated on your website that it is supposed to bring a smile to someone's face as akio toyoda said it.
The contact owns a 2013 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that the sun reflection from the chrome on the dashboard and arm rest distorted his vision while driving. My car was parked in a parking lot and was hit by some type of vehicle. The damage was extensive and the airbags deployed and the seat belt locked on the drivers side. The damage was to the right side. There was no one in the car and no witnesses as to what happened but it has been 4 weeks and my insurance is suddenly refusing to pay after issuing a work order to the repair person because the air bags deployed. There is a boat ramp across from the parking lot. I do not know for sure what hit my car, I just do not feel it is fair that usaa is telling me the airbag can not deploy without the ignition being on. I have not had a rental and had to drive my son's hunting truck which is very uncomfortable. They tried to say there was no way the car could have been hit in the parking lot. I have witnesses, one who confirmed that we found my car in the parking lot with the damage done and I was very upset when I saw it because I was sick and stress adds to my illness so I had someone drive my car to the repair shop and the guy told me it did not need to be driven again and to call in a report to the insurance company. The shop has almost finished the work and now the two investigators who came and interrogated me today and completely shocked me with what they were saying upset me greatly. If the airbag can not deploy when it should and has come out when no accident then why is there a problem with my airbag deploying when an obviously large vehicle hit it and did almost 9000 dollars in damage? please help me. I am a single mom who just moved from a home with black mold and my sister who financed the car for me has stage 4 lung cancer. I have so many diagnosis, I am on total disability. I am in the process of trying to buy a home after my kids and I have moved 5 times so I do not need this stress. I really need my car back. Thank you and god bless.

I slowed to pull into a parking space on the roof of parking garage. I tapped my brake and felt a sudden surge of power. (noisy power sound) I forcefully pushed down on the brakes and burned rubber making visible skid marks. The car went over both the cement bumper in front of my car and the cement bumper of the facing car and came to a stop when it hit his car. Both cars sustained major damage to the front. I was not injured and no one was in the car I hit. It is fortunate that this did not occur at a stop with pedestrians.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that while driving 72 mph, the rear lip spoiler detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine what caused the failure but stated that the spoiler needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 62,700.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated the engine failed and the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test that located the failure in the throttle body wires, electrical system wires, and the fuel system wires that failed due to rodents who chewed the wires. The manufacturer would not cover the repairs under the warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 61,000.
The dashboard on my 07 Toyota Avalon has become sticky, all crached up and emittes a sticky chemical that creates a blinding glare during daytime hrs. Especially when its sunny outside! I went to my local dealer and without even looking at the car he said that his dealership would split the cost with me of about $800 each to replace the dashboard. He said that Toyota has been aware of the problem for some time but refuses to acknoledge that the subcontractor that made the dashboards used a faulty material and since the warrantee has expired, they were not willing to do anything about it. I bought the top of the line Avalon with all the bells and whistles new, garage kept it, washed and waxed it myself and now this. I always thought that Toyota was a reliable company and would stand behind their products, but found out just the opposite. Not only the Avalon but the camry, corolla and the Lexus 350 which is made by Toyota. I have searched the web extensively and there seems to be no 'one' answer. Some dealers are replacing the dash, some are offering to cover materials and some only offering 20% discounts. Can you contact me or refer me to the proper department to submit a claim for a replacement. As this is clearly a Toyota 'product related' problem, I would expect that Toyota would have a resolution to fix/replace the dash as needed! since I'm retired and on a fixed income, paying out of pocket for Toyotas faulty, dangerous material is not an option, I'll make sure that anyone that I know, and with all the associations that I belong to there are plenty of people, know that Toyota has dropped the ball on this one! this has become a very serious safety hazard with all the glare that it's causing. Toyota had better hope that neither my wife or I have a serious car accident due to their mishandeling of all the complaints and turning a deaf ear to the loyal Toyota owners!.
9/17/2010 accident occurred as I entered a parking space with my foot on the brake and stopped when the car suddenly accelerated going thru a fence and hitting a stone wall when the car stopped. Our insurance company repaired the car after a Toyota rep. Examined the car. I received a letter from [xxx] from Toyota dated 10/25/2010 that stated they could not find any type of manufacture design or defect. Daytona Toyota did an aoh recall on the car during that time. My back and neck was strained and I had chiropractic adjustments, heat therapy and massages for two months paid by my insurance. 11/05/2012 accident occurred as I entered a parking space with my foot on the brake and stopped when the car accelerated over the curb hitting a stop sign. The sign ripped the left outside mirror off the door, scraped and bent the front and back doors on drivers side. The car now sits in my garage wrecked because I will not turn in another accident on my insurance because my premium went up after the first accident. I will absolutely not drive the car again because there is definitely something wrong and it is a blessing there was no one on the sidewalk nor a car on the street when my car accelerated. Someone could have been injured or killed. I do not believe that Toyota knows what is wrong nor do they know how to fix it. They need to take responsibility for what has happened to customers who trusted their vehicles. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When I wanted to exit the car from the driver's side, the inside door handle would not work. I had to open the window and use the outside handle to exit the car . I was then able to exit the car. I had to have the driver's side door assembly replaced. That was the first time this happened. The same thing happened again in November 2014. The inside driver's door handle would not let me exit the car and I was trapped inside again. The inside door handle cable snapped. I had to have the cable replaced. This happened twice within a 5 year period.

I have rust pouring out of my 4 doors on my 2005 Toyota Avalon and it continues to bleed into my paint job. I have been requesting a fix for years and they just keep wiping the rust away and do not fix the actual problem. I am not absolutely sure but I'm pretty sure they put the wrong nuts and bolts inside the automobile! stainless steel should have been used and they didn't? also they think because safety is not the issue, and is still fine your organization won't assist me? I pray they're wrong. I only want what I paid for which isn't what I received and is that not fraud? have a great day and god bless America! thank you!.
