1 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2000 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

Good afternoon ,my name is lisa mcneely and some time ago . I was contacted by the office of mr. Scott pruitt concerning the factory defect that may be responsible for numerous accidents and may have even killed drivers through the exposure of carbon monoxide. Toyota executive continues to deny this claim hoping I will go away. I am awaiting your response and I look forward to the promised inspection of my car. My husband and I have been poisoned by the carbon monoxide seeping into the car through the vents. Trotter Ford Toyota in pine bluff, arkansas said the car had carbon monoxide going all over the car and that the car was dangerous. I contacted Toyota executive ceo mr. Jim lentz office . He sent a man down to inspect my car . The person assigned to the car tried to bash me and in the process admitted several dangerous components to this car. I am asking to speak before congress on this matter . I don't care how old this car is I dont deserve to be poisoned to death by carbon monoxide.

3 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/04/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Avalon. On September 4, 2009, he stated that there was a return fuel line in the fuel pump and was at risk of causing a fire if the line were to break. He also observed that there was an oil leak on the floor and confirmed that there was no oil on the dipstick and a large amount of oil leaked onto the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer stated that they would repair the vehicle per the extended warranty and that there were no related recalls. The part necessary to repair the vehicle is on back order. The contact is concerned about the safety risk and the possibility that a fire could have occurred. The failure and current mileages were 77000.

4 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2001 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

Engine sludge is creating excessive smoking and the car uses 2 quarts of oil every 2 fillups. The vehicle started smoking in July of 2009 at 120,000 miles and was still under an 8 year warranty on the engine. Took the vehicle to the dealership in redding and they refused to honor the 8 year warranty because I was unable to provide enough receipts that I had changed the oil on a regular basis. They say the engine is ruined.

5 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/10/2009

I was traveling on the I-85 in my 2006 Toyota Avalon for approximately 1. 5 hours when the air conditioning indicator light started blinking. Shortly thereafter the a/c shut off and the "check engine" light illuminated. Within a minute or so, the "check oil" light started blinking slowly at first, then after about 30 seconds it was on continuously. By this time I had pulled off into a gas station. As I was pulling into the station the engine was making a loud clicking noise. After it was parked, I checked the dipstick and there was no oil whatsoever in the car. As well, the right side of the engine compartment was coated with oil. The underside of the car, including the inside of the wheels and brakes was completely coated with oil as well. The back of the trunk also had a light coat of oil on it, presumably from the spray underneath while traveling @ 65-70mph. I then purchased a quart of oil, put it in the engine and it drained onto the ground. I had the car towed to town & country Toyota, a charlotte dealer, who said the cause of the problem was rupture of the oil bypass hose. As I had noticed the previous night, this hose is 1) very close to the ground and subject to hits from road debris, etc. And 2) very close to the hot exhaust pipe. The use of a rubber hose for a pressurized flammable liquid system in this location is absolutely reckless. At a minimum, it should be some sort of armored or shielded hose. I'm amazed the car didn't start on fire from being doused with five quarts of oil leaking from the ruptured hose and suspect the wind from interstate speeds prevented this from happening. The service person at the dealership indicated this is a common problem with 2006 Avalons and he couldn't understand why there hasn't been a recall issued. The only the engine wasn't destroyed (with 39,000 miles on it) was because I was lucky to be in a good position to pull off. Today I found the same issue documented on carcomplaints. Com.

6 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

I was trying to get my 2005 Toyota Avalon's emission testing done. I went to two testing sites and they were unable to read the emissions system on my car. I went to the dealership and they said that it is a common issue and that your emissions will have to be done old school and that Toyota can not keep up with emissions. The problem is that in GA they have done away with the old school style testing and there are only a few locations that still do it. I was told by the dealership that they had 3 other 2005 Avalons with the same issue and told them they had to dot it the old school way.

7 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2007 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 06/20/2007

Intermittently, upon heavy acceleration exhaust emits a hydrogen sulfide type (rotten egg) odor. Took to delivery dealer and tech could not duplicate &. Took car to another dealer. Both dealers acknowledged that Toyota was aware of problem. Both stated that Toyota had replaced/repaired exhaust or catalytic converters. However subsequent to 2003 models Toyota would no longer offer repair or solution for my 2007 model. Service tech suggested using higher grade gasoline. I have used mid and premium grade gas with no change in result.

10 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1996 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/12/2003

I own a 1996 Toyota Avalon. My car has been putting out a white smoke during cold start-ups. I am adding two quarts of oil a week. I change my oil every 3,000 miles. I even replace some seals, believing that was the problem. Now the problem has come to a-head. My car stalled on the interstate going to work on July 13, 2003. The car engine light came on after it stalled. I was able to park the car and it will be my mechanic. I have read on this site that there has been others complain of the same problem. Please help us in not only finding the problem but fixing it. Thank you for your time and have a blessed day, michael t. Marchand.

11 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2000 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 12/20/2001

Changed engine oil as directed by Toyota dealer on my new 2000 Toyota Avalon (every 3,000 miles). White smoke started coming from exhaust in late 2001. Took it in to Toyota service dept. Was accused of not keeping up routine maintenance (oil changes) on the vehicle, as sludge had built up under valve cover and in engine. Was totally livid at this untrue accusation. Was told I needed $4,000 to repair. I had to trade the vehicle in on a new Toyota vehicle -- starting at $4,000 in the red. For example, new vehicle was approximately $26,000. To that Toyota added the $4,000 to it. I now owe $30,000 on a vehicle worth much much less. I'm enraged and want a $4,000 credit back to my balance on my new vehicle after learning of the obvious relevation that Toyota is to blame for a faulty engine problem on many of its vehicles. I work for a law firm and will stop at nothing short of this outcome. Thank you.

12 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1999 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 05/31/1999

Problem 1: the car shifts poorly when you let off the gas and then accelerate or do a rolling stop. Toyota's field technical specialist, ron wytock said that those driving situations produced a 2 gear downshift when it shouldn't but that was normal and not repairable. Problem 2: the car has a very nasty, acrid odor, that gives us headaches and makes us nauseous when we drive it. We have taken the car in more than 4 times in attempts to get it repaired, but the smell is still there. We are concerned because the smell makes us ill: we are concerned the car may catch fire; and we are concerned car components may fail while we are driving. Toyota has guessed at several causes of the smell, but now says the smell is normal and not a cause of concern.
