1 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2007 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 03/13/2014

My 2007 Avalon never had an oil problem. Last Thursday I noticed oil in the driveway as a shoveled snow. I checked the oil level and the vehicle was 1 1/2 quarts down. I put the 1 1/2 quarts into the car and drove it to my mechanic 5 miles away. The mechanic said that the vehicle was totally out of oil and that I was very lucky that the engine didn't catch on fire because the oil was spraying all over the engine. The mechanic diagnosed the problem as an oil leak from the vvt-I oil hose. I went on line and discovered this limited service campaign for vvt-I oil line. I contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle. They stated that they would get back to me. They never did. I contacted Toyota. Com and spoke to the representative. They stated that the lsc was for 07 Toyota Avalon's but my VIN wasn't include in the lsc, even though it was the same problem all the 07 Avalons were having. This problem is going to cause major damage to the avolons. It is also very dangerous the way the oil leaks all over the engine. There is going to be a large number of engine fires. Toyota basically told me to bad and good luck. I hope something will be done before someone gets badly hurt. Obviously all 07 avolons are effected not just a certain few vins the lsc can be obtained by goggling vvt-I oil leak, 2007 avolonshere is the lsc.

2 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2007 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 11/05/2013

Upon traveling through nash, TX on November 5, 2013, the oil light on my 2007 Toyota Avalon came on. The leaking line over the right front wheel busted. I pulled into robbins Toyota. I spoke with service consultant tim curtis. He asked me what the problem was and I stated my oil light came on and I was experiencing an oil leak. He said he knew what is was and got my information and how I was going to pay. I told him cash, credit, or check. Then he asked where I was from. I told him georgia. He said he had the part to fix it and I asked tim curtis how much it would cost me? he replied $400. I said that sounds like a lot for a 6 inch hose. He stated I could have it fixed somewhere else but they had the part in stock. I said you know I cant drive this car like this so go ahead and fix it. They fixed it but only charged me $339. I was there for two hours and they charged me with two and a half hours. According to Toyota it should take less than an hour. I received a letter from Toyota on November 29, 2014 that this part on my 2007 year model Toyota had been recalled. The letter stated if the part had not been replaced make an appointment to have it replaced by December 31, 2021. I sent all the information the letter stated and was sent a letter back saying I was declined for not sending everything that was asked. On January 8, 2015, I contacted my local dealership and he sent over all the information again and explained to them that I traded the car in June 2014. My case number is 1412170721. We never heard back on my case as of March 24, 2015. The letters received were from Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. , inc.

3 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 05/14/2011

2006 Toyota Avalon CT dealer quoted $1800 for timing cover oil leak; 17 hours of labor, inexpensive part; 3 recalls to date with this vehicle-extreme inconvenience and suspect of any issues on this car and Toyota record is horrendous per multiple safety and other recalls. I've seen other complaints on this timing cover reseal exact issue. A service bulletin was supposedly issued in 2007 eg 019-07. Nhtsa bulletin 10021531. When will consumers get protection on these further Toyota issues?? I will raise this to highest levels.

4 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 11/19/2010

First contacted Toyota motor sales u. S. A. , inc. In torrance, CA. And advised them of my car troubles prior to going to dealership for service. I made them aware that I do not trust dealer service departments. They assigned me a case number and documented my issues with engine/powertrain malfunction that still exist today and both the dealer and Toyota motor sales have not addressed problem. Also, I stated to dealer that there was leakage surrounding the power steering pump. Dealer was quick to resolve problem by trying to induce me to have pump changed without performing true diagnostic procedures to include; failure to remove front r/h tire to look at power steering pump from the front side, failure to clean power steering pump and surrounding areas to investigate true area of leakage. Instead, dealer service department came to an immediate conclusion that the pump must be leaking from pump shaft bearing. Cost to replace; $750. 00 which I declined to have replaced. With the vehicle up on jack stands and with true diagnostic testing, I removed front r/h tire, thoroughly cleaned power steering pump and surrounding area and steered left to right and right to left many times and can not locate leak at this time. Could be even engine oil that dripped down or pump high pressure line that goes to steering cylinder gearbox/yoke area. As far as the power train/engine problem that has been going on for a very long time, the engine and transmission are always out of synchronization. To briefly state, the engine wonders (hi and low rpms) and the transmission will be in wrong gear. Furthermore, throttle response is many times non-existent. I depress pedal and no engine response is found. Need to further depress pedal for engine to accelerate. This is a serious safety factor as far as I am concerned. Have other issues not able to state because of your limited words allowed.

5 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/10/2010

We spotted drops of oil coming from our Toyota Avalon 2006. A Toyota dealership diagnosed the problem to be a slow oil leak from the front timing cover. The dealership estimates it will cost over $2,200 to reseal or replace the cover which costs about $50. We have decided, as of now, to not spend the major dollars involved, and keep a eye on the oil in the car. We have also researched that particular problem in the 2006 Avalon, and have found NHTSA technical service bulletin, item number 10021531, and 2006 Toyota Avalon, service bulletin #: 01907. The summary of this bulletin reads: "engine oil leak from front timing cover. " the bulletin seems to be describing our problem exactly. When a comparison between the money involved with the repair ($2,200) to the part Toyota will replace ($50), there's something wrong with the 2006 Avalon's design and/or the situation calls for a Toyota recall.

6 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/14/2009

2005 Toyota Avalon. Lubrication oil leak from the vvti oil line. Toyota is aware there is a defect in this part but only will fix it if they see immediate leaking and the vehicle is under 60,000 miles. I have an appointment to bring my car in on October 1, 2010. But have been advised if they do not see oil spurting from the line there will be a 95. 00 charge for inspection and they will not fix the defect. In the past 3 weeks I have added 2 quarts ofoil to the engine. The vehicle has approx. 42,00 miles on it. My mechanic has told me this problem is with the 2005 models only. The angle of the oil line is too severe causing the tube to fail and leak oil.

7 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/03/2009

Experienced a leak in the "vvti" oil line to the rear cylinder bank in this transverse mounted v6 engine at 78,000 miles. Fortunately, this was discovered before engine failure or damage to surrounding equipment occurred. Searching online, have found others were not so fortunate. This problem is a safety concern because it could lead to sudden engine failure as well as the potential for engine fire as oil leaks on hot parts. The repair cost was $202 for labor. Toyota paid for parts needed for the repair as part of a customer satisfaction response after a complaint was made. There should be a recall to replace this part, as my research online reveals it to be occurring to many people when their cars are over 70,000 miles and therefore out of the normal warranty period. This is clearly a defect and not a normal wear item.

8 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 08/16/2009

Car has major oil leakage on my 300+ mile drive down to la from san jose. That morning, the car is dry and fine. The car has always been maintained by the dealer. There was no indication of oil loss. The oil light did not even go on. Luckily we took a pit stop at coalinga, where we notice burning smell and smoke was every where (after the car was parked). When I checked the oil level, there was no oil left as indicated on the dipstick. The car was towed to the nearest Toyota, which did not believe that there's a pending TSB on this line, so they charged us for replacing it. Up until now, I'm afraid to take the car for long distance drive. I don't know if any damage to the engine was done due to lack of oil. After I got home, I contacted local dealer, but they refuse to look at it, unless I put out money for the diagnostic. My complaint and concern is that the part that got replaced is the same part that failed. Since this is a known issue, I'm afraid this problem will repeat again in about another 44000 miles, which the car is already out of warranty. Also, the oil light never came on, so it proves very dangerous while driving on the long trip.

9 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 08/03/2009

Noticed oil puddle on my garage floor when vehicle was approximately 3 years old and still under powertrain warranty. Toyota dealer replaced oil line hose. Vehicle had same leak approximately one year later and hose was replaced again. Noticed oil leak again when vehicle had approximately 55,000 miles less than 5 years old. This time was timing cover leak. Dealer repaired vehicle under warranty and referred to some TSB concerning timing cover leak. Continued to have periodic leaks attributed to loose connections. At 95,000 miles timing cover leaking again. Dealer repaired, but no warranty service. Complained to Toyota why no recall and having recurring problem with timing cover. Toyota stated they would provide me with $1,000 check to assist in covering the $1853. 53 dealer repair charge upon submitting paid invoice to them. Noted that a majority of 2005 Avalon owners have had the same problems, but no recall from Toyota. Why not?.

10 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 07/27/2009

I have a 2006 Toyota Avalon, and recently I realized that the engine was leaking oil quite profusely. I took it right into the dealership and they stating that the vvt (variable valve timing) injection hose was broken. They replaced my hose as I have the platinum care protection plan through Toyota. My concern is it seems like this has happened to other who own 2006 Avalons. If the part is faulty why don't they recall the cars and replace the faulty parts.

11 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 04/19/2009

I had driven about 3 miles at 40 mph in my 06 Avalon with 40,000 mile. There was no warning. My car began smoking from the hood. Oil was leaking, large amount of oil. No oil light came on. No dashboard lights or notification of a problem was indicated. My dipstick show that I have no oil in the car. I just had an oil change recently. I am waiting for my Toyota dealer to call me back. I have left 2 messages.

12 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 04/15/2009

My 2006 Avalon experienced a severe oil leak while my wife was driving it. Fortunately, she was close to home and stopped it in front of the house where it deposited several quarts of oil. I had the car towed to the dealer who quickly recognized the problem as a well-known failure of the hose-to-tubing connection on an external lube oil line to the vvt mechanism. I had 51k miles, so the repair was covered by warranty. I have since purchased a new solid metal tube as is used on the 2009 models to replace the one the dealer installed which still had the rubber hose portion. I have purchased Toyotas since the mid '80's and this is my first serious disappointment in both the quality of the product and the conduct of the company for not recalling this vehicle for this problem.

13 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 03/07/2009

Car started leaking large amount of oil and had to be towed to dealer. No oil light came on. Oil line on engine leaking. Oil covered other parts that had to be replaced. Toyota had no manufacture replacement parts in USA and stated they would have to be manufactured. Manufacture of parts could take 60-90 days. Dealer replaced part with substitute oil line recommended by Toyota in order to repair car in a timely manner. Car was covered in oil under car and was not cleaned. Motor could have been ruined had oil leak not been discovered when parking the car. Notice this has been a problem nationally and there has been no recall. Price of non Toyota part and repairs was $683. 00. This should have been covered in a recall, with all the problems this part is causing.

14 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 02/11/2009

I went out this morning to warm my car. When I came out to take my son to school all of my oil had leaked out on the ground. I had just went in for a regular oil chg at the Toyota dealer. I didn't know what was wrong. I drove the car to the dealer not knowing that my engine could have locked up on me. Luckily I made it to the dealer safely. After looking at my car the Toyota rep. Came out and told me that my vvtl line has busted. I was like this is a brand new car. I only had it for 3 years. The rep said that the part is under warranty and it will probably take some weeks before the part comes in. She said that they already had cars there with the same problem that have been sitting for weeks. She said that the part was on back order. I really think that its crazy that Toyota have had this many complaints on the vvtl line breaking and have not made they customers aware of it. I am very dissatisfied with Toyota, and I think that they need to do a recall on all cars regarding this problem. At least send something out to there customers making them aware of it. The thing is now the part that they are sending out . . Will that have a defect in it too? if they are just replacing the same old part what happens when your car isn't under warranty anymore? if it wasn't for my CO-worker telling me about this website I would not have known that so many people have had the same problem. This is just so upsetting!.

15 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/23/2009

I have a 2005 Avalon xls with about 25,000 miles. I took it to have a routine oil change on January 23, 2009. When the service technician got under it to remove the filter and drain plug he noticed oil sprayed on the engine and frame and asked me if I knew the vehicle had an oil leak. I told him no and that I hadn't noticed any oil on the ground where I park the car. He then looked at the engine from the top and noticed oil pooling on top of a small hose that connects to a metal line. He told me I should take it to the dealer right away to have the oil leak fixed. I immediately drove to the dealer and a mechanic there told me the problem was the oil pipe sub-assembly. The Toyota service rep. Said Toyota will get and pay for a rental car until my car was fixed. That was over 9 weeks ago and I still don't have my car back!!! the service rep states this problem is happening to many, many Avalons and they're waiting for the parts to come in. I think there needs to be a recall issued for this problem not to mention the fact that Toyota knew about this issue back in 2005 but did nothing about it. Also, can anyone explain why it's taking so long to get the parts?.

16 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/22/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Avalon. While driving 70 mph, the contact heard a strange noise coming from the passenger side of the vehicle. She arrived at her residence and noticed oil leaking from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that an oil hose had burst. The failure was repaired under warranty. Although the part was available at that time, the contact discovered several complaints regarding this component not being repaired due to the part being on backorder. The failure and current mileages were 70,788. 4/01/09 updated 04/09/09.

17 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 12/27/2008

Car has been fine up until this point. But when starting the car one morning, oil began streaming onto the ground. I filled the car with oil, drove the 2 miles to the repair shop and just under 2 quarts leaked out after that short drive. After they removed the inspection plate, they found no evidence of chaffing but a simply small hole that had developed in the middle section of the vvti oil supply line. They replaced the oil supply line and now the car engine has a lot of clatter at low rpms. I have the old part available for inspection. Car has 63,000 miles on it.

18 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

A few months ago I brought my car in to Toyota on nicholasville with an "oil problem". It had been slowly leaking oil. No oil lights had come on. Then while driving down the road I saw smoke and smelled oil. The vvti oil line was leaking and had sort of "blown up" all over my engine. Needless to say, I was very upset. I went directly to the dealer. It was repaired quickly and I paid almost $500. 00 for the repair! I then researched on-line and became aware the vvti oil line leak was a problem faced my many Avalon owners. Afterwards I remembered I had purchased "Toyota extra care" and free scheduled maintenance. I suppose I should probably file a claim with Toyota for reimbursement; but I guess that is another issue! I now remember to tell my service tech before each repair! now, a few months later, I have the same issue all over again. This time I am extremely upset. I called Toyota on nicholasville and was told to bring my car to the dealership right away and they would work me in that afternoon. I did. I knew the problem was the same issue with the vvti line, and realized it would not be repaired that same day. After waiting about two hours, the tech came and spoke with me. He told me it was, once again, a problem with the vvti oil line. Although Toyota did have a repair part available, it was a back-ordered part. Dave indicated many people had been waiting for this part and it would probably take as long as 4-8 weeks to get my car repaired. I really thought he was kidding. Finally, he convinced me he was not! I did receive my car back in a week. So far so good. Seems to me this should be a "recall" from Toyota. I wish I understood why it was not.

19 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 12/10/2007

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking oil. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer seven times where the oil tube, hose, filter housing, studs and drain plug casket were replaced. However, the failure continued. The failure mileage was 30,214 and the current mileage was 56,289. Updated 01/12/lj the dealer replaced, the drain plugs, gaskets, crank seal, valve covers and oil pan. The moonroof did not operate properly and there was a problem with the battery not charging. Updated 04/15/11.

20 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 02/02/2005

We bought a Toyota Avalon in 2005 for my son thinking that we have had a very good experience with our first Toyota. Yesterday, my worried son called to tell me that oil was leaking from his car. Not wanting to cause more damage to his car, he called a towing service and they took his car to the closest repair shop. There he was told that he had to take the car to a Toyota dealership as this problem has been reported by several Avalon owners. When the car was taken to the dealer, he was told that the part needed to repair the car is in back order and would probably take 3 weeks before it arrives. In the meantime, he was told that there is another Avalon waiting for the same part and since that car came in first, his car may not be ready by then. My son was not offered a rental which I will take up with the dealership. Looks like whatever was plaguing the Avalon 2006 owners is also being experienced by 2005 owners.
