I bought my vehicle brand new and have had continuing trouble with what I believe to be the fuel system. Upon acceleration the car will periodically (daily) sound like it is running on diesel fuel or as if water is mixed with the gasoline. I have taken the car back to the dealer on 4 different occasions, and they have not been able to recreate the noise and, therefore, claim they cannot fix the problem.

4 Gasoline Engine problem of the 2000 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 08/07/2001

Anytime vehicle is started up massive amounts of white smoke comes out from rear for as long as 3 minutes, and vehicle runs hard. Dealer stated it was neglect, not getting enough oil changes. Vehicle needed a total of 6 oil changes, and consumer had only gotten 5 oil changes. Valve cap was removed, and black sludge had build up. Dealer's remedy was to flush the engine, which made it worse.

5 Gasoline Engine problem of the 1997 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 12/04/2000

While traveling about 35-40 mph oil light kept coming on and off. Engine stopped running. There were no prior warnings or noises or smell before engine locked up. Consumer had asked the mechanic for the old engine because it needed replaced, later the service manager told the consumer that the original engine could not go to the vehicle's owner.

Engine has sludge. Toyta does not want to fix it. Engine will cut off going down roadit could possiblty cause accident. It is not just one model of car but the six cylinder is the problem. I have talked to about 20 people who have this problem with engine sludge. There is no way to tell how many people are having this problem. Regular oil changes were performed and proved to the dealer, but the dealer says sludge is not covered under warrenty and I am responsible for replacing the engine. I believe there is a defect in my engine and should be replaced by Toyota. I am affraid of engine seizure while driving and causing an accident.
