I had a collision with another vehicle and my car was totaled by the insurance company as there was major front end damage and no air bags deployed. The first reaction of three law enforcement officers, body shop owner, and insurance adjuster was the same, "I can't believe the air bags didn't deploy. "
this is not a play for money, but a request for help, if there is
a product problem. I was not injured because I was wearing my seat belt and it worked. The car is still available for inspection but will be turned over to hartford insurance as early as today.

I think I experienced a surge in my 2006 Toyota Avalon. I was not sure but people observing that did not stay and wait for police said my car raced forward after stopped at a light. I ended up steering to the right and hit a tree rather than the car ahead or pedestrians. When the police and tow truck arrived they indicated that my airbag should have gone off, but it did not.
A coach bus traveling at 60 km + (40 + miles per hr) ran a red light and hit my Avalon 2005 xls turning left. My speed was between 20km - 25 km (12- 15 miles) an hour. Not one of my 12 airbags deployed. When I realized that the bus was going to hit I took my hands off the wheel and removed my feet from both brake and gas pedal with the intent to put the car in neutral. I was lucky - I suffered a shattered wrist and some bruising. The front car was crushed and totaled although the impact came from the nose right across. Paramedics and auto collision shop both expressed shock at the non deployment of these bags. The collision center says they look defective. There was a recall of these vehicles in 2006 for airbag problems. Toyota has not yet checked the vehicle and has not informed us if this is one of the recalled cars. This car would have been manufactured in the USA. A coach bus has a lot of mass. Why no airbags?.

As a school bus approached, I moved over slightly to the right to give it more room. Unexpectedly, the car accelerated and I hit a tree on the right side of the road. It did not occur to me at the time of the accident that the 2004 Avalon xls had sped up. That had occurred twice before while driving. I suffered a slight chip in my left ankle bone.

On July 14, 2007 my parents were involved in a single-car crash in the residential area of new bloomfield, mo. My 84-year-old father was driving a 2004 Toyota Avalon, suddenly left the right side of the roadway, flipped the vehicle, and landed upside down, back on the pavement. My 79-year-old mother was killed instantly from head trauma, and my father passed away from injuries sustained in the accident 7 weeks later. The authorities could not determine the cause of the accident, and my father could not remember any details, as he had extraordinary internal trauma and was in icu for most of his remaining 7 weeks. I have petitioned the auto insurer, allstate several times, but they have not responded to my e-mails, and although it is likely this vehicle has been destroyed, based on all the media about sudden acceleration of Toyota vehicles, this could certainly have been a contributing factor to, if not the cause of, this horrific accident. We have been vexed by the whole incident, and it never occurred to me to request having the Avalon inspected (highly rated vehicle and all. . . ), until all the recent media of other deaths involving Toyota vehicles. I do not have the VIN # available presently, but can obtain it. Updated 03/10/10 updated ivoq 08/03/10.
While driving 30 mph, the driver swerved to avoid hitting a squirrel, the vehicle left the road and hit two trees and none of the air bags deployed. Driver suffered bruises, damage to vehicle was not known. Please provide VIN number upon receipt of this complaint. Vehicle was totaled.
