Dash began having cracks about a year ago. Now concerned that this might have something to do with the recent airbag recall.
The dashboard in my 2007 Toyota Camry has started melting off, and under the sun's heat it becomes very soft, sticky and bright, and when the sun reflects on the dashboard it causes visibility/safety issues. Also, I'm afraid the airbag under the dashboard may become affected if the dashboard cracks or breaks.
Dashboard of subject vehicle started displaying signs of a very sticky substance in the summer of 2013. I purchased this vehicle in Dec. Of 2010 with one previous owner . . Signs of melting dashboard did not appear for several years past the warranty. Internet search reveals that numerous Toyota owners have experienced this same problem. After dealing with Toyota directly, I was told they would provide a replacement dashboard but that I would have to pay $624 in labor. My position is that this is either a products liability, implied warranty of merchantability, or latent defect issue and has no bearing on an expired warranty. In addition, there may be a safety concern with deployment of the airbag due to deteriorating dashboard, not to mention the possibility of toxic fumes circulating throughout the vehicle. . I had a one car accident & the air bags on the side of the drivers door injured both of my legs. My left leg had the inside cut to the bone & skin ripped off, could not walk for 8 weeks, had plastic surgery. Large indented scar now with swelling of leg, otherwise leg works fine. My right leg has a large hematoma with swelling, no broken skin. The paramedics felt it was the air bags that caused the problem. . Car was totaled, make is 2007 Camry, computer would not allow me to put in make of car.
Dashboard is melting. It is sticky and cannot be undone. Bits come off in fingernails when they strike dashboard in error. Very hard to clean.
The dashboard of my Toyota is falling apart. It is a safety hazard as it contains the passanger air bag. Additionally, the glare caused by the shine is very distracting both day and night as sunlight and lights reflect and blind the driver. I believe warranties should cover anything that is a defective part and that's what this is, a defective part, if a part is defective when you manufacturer the car or whether it fails within warranty or out of warranty it shouldn't make any difference. " I and other drivers feel the defect is unsafe, and shine a light on the issue with videos taken from their point of view. Now we've learned the safety issues may go even deeper. "because this dashboard has the airbag inside on the passenger side I wouldn't feel safe in a car that had a cracked dash," explained stewart. "anything that would make an airbag go off too soon or go off too late would be very serious. ".
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact was driving 70 mph and drifted into the shoulder, over the grass and crashed into a fence. The contact was knocked unconscious during the crash and only recalled the vehicle rolling over onto the driver's side. None of the air bags in the vehicle deployed. The contact sustained moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital via ambulance. A police report was filed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 06v096000 (air bags) but was not advised if the vehicle was included in the recall or not. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was unavailable.
I got a case number from Toyota, Toyota told me that the only way my air bag will deploy is that the motor would have to be in the car dash board to protect the driver. So she knows that the car air bag was working properly.
I was involved in an accident where a minivan made a u-turn in front of my vehicle while I was heading straight. My vehicle hit the other vehicles passengers side from the beginning of the tire upwards to the tip of his front bumber and my car was damaged on the impact of the vehicle from my drivers side bumper I then reared off the road to a ditch after impact with the other vehicle where I headed downwards into rocks and trees. The car was totalled, and everything inside the hood was forced forward, the vehicle was totalled beyond repair. The body frame could not be repaired and not one of the airbags deployed.
In my 2007 Toyota Camry, at first (approx. 2011) the dashboard would feel sticky, as if something had spilled on it. However the stickiness could not be cleaned up. It was in fact the material of the dashboard melting. It continues to get worse and spreads across a larger area, to the point that now (2014) the dash cannot be touched without a mark being left in the melted material. It looks wet and is so glossy that the glare is impossible to see through most of the day. This is clearly a manufacturers defect and should be recalled as it is a safety hazard, not just with the blinding glare which impairs vision, but because the passenger airbag is contained inside of the dashboard and the dashboard being melted may affect its deployment.
Seat belt safety light came on and never goes off. My mechanic told me it would cost me thousand of dollars to fix. I should not have to pay for a safety feature. Also my braking system had a leak at just over 35000 miles that cost me 1300. 00 and it was never on the recall list.
The airbag cover on the windshield post was installed with a defective/and or damaged clip. The airbag cover was loose and could have been snagged by a passenger, etc. And come off at any time. The Toyota dealer maintained that these covers were just cosmetic and that I could drive without covers and the car would still be completely safe. I did not want to drive it that way so I paid the dealer $ 71. 78 for parts and labor to replace their defective part. I want to know who at Toyota would want to drive a car on our freeways with a compromised air bag system in that condition?.
At 59,000 miles, the check vsc system light came on, as well as check engine light. I took the car to the Toyota dealer. At the time, I still had the extended warranty. They replaced "bank 2" ignition coil and charged me $100 deductible. At 70,528 miles the exact same thing happened. Check vsc system and check engine light came on. At the time, still under extended warranty. It was diagnosed with bad # 6 coil. They charged me the $100 deductible. At 90,000 miles (now) the exact same symptoms. I am assuming it is another bad ignition coil. There should be a recall on the 2007 Camry's ignition coils. I cannot afford to keep replacing ignition coils by a Toyota dealership, especially now that my car is not under the extended warranty. I also had Toyota replace clips on the air bag cover on passenger side in 2008. The part still sags. It is defective. It is in the Toyota dealership computer system that I brought it in at least twice for the sagging air bag cover. The new clips did not fix it.
I was stop at the stop light waiting for the light to turn green. When light turn green, I proceeded to make left hand turn into the undivided ramp. The steering would not return to the right. I turn the steering wheel as fast as I can to the right, but vehicle would not go to the right. On coming traffic hit me head on and collided head on with no air bags deployed at all. Bruised on head due to hitting head on driver side window. Insurance company had taken all parts for investigation. My left wheel was torn in half like it was open up by a can opening. Ball joints were off also.

My dash panel is sticky cracking and in a state of deteioration . My consern is that in an air bag deployment parts of this cracked dash could impact my eyes like broken glass. This vehicle is garage kept and rairly used as it is at a vacation home. It does not sit in the sun or a parking lot. It is deteriorating on its owne.
I was driving my 2007 Toyota Camry in a left turn and suddenly the steering wheel was locked up. I tried to hit the brakes, the brakes was locked up too. I lost control of the car and ran into woods. Car hit a tree in front and stopped, but none of the air bags deployed. Thus, my head hit steering wheel and got two cuts on my forehead. I was sent to er and had a surgery with 11 stitches. The car is a total lose now.
Wife was driving down hwy 77 arkansas city kansas, making a pass she lost control after she slid off shoulder at bend of the road. Out of the multiple air bags only one deployed the passengers side curtain. After reviewing the crash site and reading report the first hit to the car was drivers side front end, it was a very hard hit. Steering bag should have gone off as it dug into a turn around mound. Went up and down wide median ditch starting a six turn rolling of the 2007 Toyota Camry. She went out sun roof even though she had seat belt on. Medical report stats seat belt marks and severe leg injuries. She will never be the same and I'm lucky to still have her. I will use all means to find out why the so called safety features on this car did not prevent some of the damage to this wonderful women.

We bought 2007 Camry in July of 2007. My wife drove it to work and got an accident on 12/5/07. When she exited highway, she used gas then used brake to reduce the speed. The brake did not work. The car sped out of control and hit the side of hill. The car was roll over to one side and totaled. My wife was badly injured and was sent to hospital emergency room. She got some cuts in her head by the broken window and she had to stay at home for about 2 weeks before going back to work. We believed something wrong with the car brake or gas pedal. And when the car hit the side of hill, none of car safety air bags came out. The car was totaled and paid by our insurance. But this accident gave her a long time fear and bad feeling when she passed that place. We hope we can join the Toyota class action lawsuit. Please give us some suggestions. Thanks!.
On oct 13,2007 my 4yr old daughter and I were involved in a head on collision at less than 10m/h and all three airbags in my 2007 red Camry SC deployed and the knee airbag gave my right lower leg a bad blood clot where I had to miss work from over a month. I was not aware of any airbag recalls till after the crash and I had purchased to 2007 Camrys. I was only notified of the floormat recall. I was highly upset especially since I work for the japanese automaker. I can tell you safety and defects are not a high priority at Toyota in kentucky there are several unsafe things going on. Quantity is over quality.
