The Camry started revving up to 1500 rpm at stop lights or when pulling into parking spots almost causing accidents, local dealer could not find issue after having car for a month. There is no check engine light or saved codes, I just notice the engine coolant temperature drop while its doing it so its an electrical issue. It happens every other day usually when warm out. I am too scared to have my wife drive the vehicle anymore and cannot justify selling. Hopefully Toyota will help figure this out. Dealer replaced fuel pump but it did not fix the issue. Also has hard starting once or twice a week, will always start on the third try if not immediately.
I have continuously had issues with my cars ignition coils and vsc system. The check engine light and vsc system light is always on and even though I've spent thousands of od dollars on repairs the light continues to pop up even with regular maintenance and multiple repairs. My car misfires and turns off randomly this is very dangerous to drive but I have no other means of transportation. The car misfires in idle, while driving at low and high speeds and it wont turn on sometimes until I connect jumper cables to the battery. When I connect the jumper cables I never need an extra source of power I simply connect one end of the cables to the battery and a few seconds later it all the lights turn on again and the car restarts the whole system.
I have taken fairly good care of my car throughout the time I have had it which is almost 10 years but the mileage is only at 130,000. I was driving one day and the car completely turned off but I had never had anything like this happen before, even never had any significant problems with the car so this came as a surprise. I had just had the oil changed about 2 weeks prior and had regular maintenance done at that time as well. I took the car to my mechanic and they believed they knew what the problem was since the check engine light was appearing. They fixed said problem but they realized the car was still displaying the check engine light and also revving. They suggested I take the car to the Toyota dealer so they could read what was happening and why the check engine light was on and the car was not running properly. They ended up diagnosing that one of the cylinders was misfiring and that the engine needed a complete overhall/replacement. The estimate given was $6000 for the engine (this site did not accept this amount) and another amount which I can't recall for the labor. I have not yet decided what I will do but wanted to look up any engine recalls or issues others were having with their Camrys and came upon this site.
My car is dying when is running and the steering wheel get lock and doesn't matter what speed I go everything turns off so please let me know what it coud be because doesn't show any check engine light or anything please help.
When I was driving the vehicle I noticed when I get to a certain speed the check engine light start to flash until I slow down or the vehicle won't move until I park it turn it off for a few minutes and then turn it back on. So I took it to the dealership and they told me I need a new engine.
I was driving the Camry when I reached a complete stop my check engine light came on, didn't really notice any change, two days later I notice gas consumption has increased. I took the Camry into dealer, dealer diagnosed the check engine to be a faulty O2 sensor. Replaced O2 sensor and drove off to pick up my kids from school, as we are driving home, I came to a traffic light, I stopped and check engine light and abs light came on idle was disrupted briefly. I proceeded and when trying to stop car the brake pedal had become very tight to were I had to stomp on brakes with all my might to get car to stop. Drop kids off at home waited 15 minutes and started vehicle, abs light was off but check engine remained on, brake pedal was almost back to normal. I drove car to dealer again, the dealer said it is a faulty brake booster which is allowing too much air into system which in return signals for more fuel to be pumped to compensate vacuum leak. Brake booster not covered under extended warranty, and very costly 1,363. 16 parts, labor and taxes, not counting the 4 day rental. This concerns me because I beleive this to be a safety issue, if it were my wife driving the Camry with my kids she would not be able to stop the vehicle without any warning. Toyota needs to make this a safety recall before something tragic happens. I looked at Toyota forums and it seems I'm not alone, brake booster for several other Toyota models have gone bad, after 100,000 miles some at 70,000. 2007 Toyota Camry seems like a horrible guinea pig car.
The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the piston and rings needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 133,000. The VIN number was not available.
My son drove the car on highway about 10 minutes at 10pm and he saw the engine light on and the can was a little bit shaking. After about 5 minutes, the car speed slowed down quickly and there were smoke from front hood. He pulled the car by shoulder, then car was totally dead. The mechanic technician gave a report after checking the car that "waterpump failed and engine ran too long without coolant and melted engine". What a shame the Toyota car quality it is as I was always regularly maintained my car by Toyota dealer.

Letter from congressman kagen on behalf of constituent re compensation for Toyota repairs and car rental costs note: letter forwarded from consumer product safety commission the consumer stated the vvt-I oil line is a rubber hose which routes a high pressure flow of hot engine oil outside the engine block. The rubber deteriorates over time and can unexpectedly break or rupture from 19,000 to over 100,000 miles and can lead to very expensive repairs when running the engine without oil causing severe engine damage. Most owners reported there was no warning from the oil or check engine light and they discovered the problem when they noticed a puddle of oil on the ground. The manufacturing fix was instituted in north America plants in April 2008. The assembly fix was to replace the defective metal and rubber assembly with an all metal oil line. The consumer stated her vehicle lost oil suddenly with no warning. When the consumer approached her vehicle, she noticed a large amount of oil underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was purchased. They were unable to do the repairs, so the vehicle was towed to another establishment where the engine was replaced. According to the letter written by the establishment that replaced the engine; the vehicle's engine had locked up, the engine was tight and oil was all over the engine compartment and under the vehicle. When the engine was removed, they found spun bearings, and the crank and two rods were no good.
