Toyota Camry 2009. A few times, the brakes were not responsive. Accelerator is sometimes slow to come to idle position, which caused unintended acceleration and trouble braking.
My Toyota Camry hybrid has the exact same going over bumps and pothole problems that is being described for the prius, however, I have not been able to get it addressed. During braking, if the car goes over a non-smooth surface in the road, the car speeds up until all four wheels are on solid ground again, usually a short duration. This is scary and dangerous and I am lucky that I have been able to avoid an accident. This has been a continuous problem that the dealer didn't recognize when I have complained about it. I am entering yesterdays date in the incident date field since this happened to me again last evening.
While at a stop sign, I accelerated my car and then quickly stopped (pushed on the brakes) because another car was coming, only to feel my Camry accelerate and crashed into the other car.
While traveling down road approximately 35-40 mph, traffic up ahead was braking. As I applied my brakes, they hung up, felt like anti lock brake trying to engage, but did not slam on brakes. As I applied brake pedal, car started to accelerate. I was able to tap the brake pedal several time and get vehicle back under control. It has only happened this one time.
I have experienced the same "2010 Toyota prius braking issue" on my 2009 Toyota Camry. The Toyota prius braking issue is described as the following: "momentary loss of braking capability while traveling over uneven road surfaces, potholes or bumps. " this is exactly what happened to me in my 2009 Toyota Camry just a few hours ago. After rolling over a series of bumps at about 45 mph I tried to apply the brake in my 2009 Camry and the pedal was very slow to respond and the physical brake pedal itself exhibited great resistance in my effort to press it down into use. This problem occurs only after having traveled over bumps or potholes, etc. The reason I am filing this complaint is that I feel that the "prius braking issue" is not limited to only the prius model that has been reported on in the new over the past 24 hours.
I had picked up a passenger about 1 1/2 hours from my home. I was returning home & noticed that the gas pedal was accelerating even tho I was pressing the brake. I couldn't stop the car& a curvy road was ahead along with a cliff. My option was to go over the cliff or go into possible oncoming traffic to try to stop the vehicle. I opted to try to turn the car into a nearby driveway. Luckily no oncoming traffic was close enough to hit my car as I did this. The driveway was slanted & as I turned into the driveway I smacked into a snow bank which tore my front bumper off. Luckily there were no personal injuries. I reported this to Toyota & my insurance ( at the time of the accident I had heard about a Toyota recall having to do with gas pedal but it had been a while & I hadn't received notification of the recall affecting my vehicle). My personal car insurance covered the $3000 worth of damage to the bumper radiator, grill, etc. Over 4 years later & I still haven't recovered my deductible from Toyota for a known defect in the pedal! had I been notified timely of the recall affecting my vehicle this could have been avoided! instead, I had to cover the cost to repair damage out of my pocket & I had whiplash for a few weeks caused by a known issue Toyota knew of! I'm furious & disappointed that I chose a Toyota!.
I would like to make a complaint about my car. I brought a Toyota Camry 2009 and I have been having problems because its not stabilized in the routes. Also when I go on the streets the cars brakes wont stop. I've tried taking it to the dealership but they just tell me to make an appointment.
I was unable to stop the car at stop sign while I tried my best to stop even I tried hard to use the brake to stop.
I have a 2009 Camry. And I found it is takes a very long time to stop the car even if you push the brake to the full position. I also own a 1999 Camry, which does not have the problem. I even had a accident with the 09 Camry when I was reaching the traffic light on around 35mph I begin push the brake when I saw the light turned into yellow. However, the car could not stop in time, and I pump into the car in front of me. I took the car to the dealer and they told me the brake works fine so far and they did not have a recall so far.
I have purchase 2009 Toyota Camry le on August 7, 2009. But my wife was driving when it was involve in an accident on November 18, 2009 due that either the gas pedal stuck or the brakes didn't work properly, that caused a crash to the other cars rear. We have taken to don mcgill Toyota of katy for repair that cost me $3,850. 00 for that damage on the front end. The questions is does my car have the same problem that Toyota has recalled? I would like to someone give me same answers on it.

2009 Camry I bought a used Camry 2009 with 64,000 miles on it. I noticed that while making a turn, both right and left axles were creating sound. Then I called Toyota's customer relations dept. Around Nov 11th and reported this matter to them. They gave to me the complaint # 0911116335. They advised me to go to the local dealer. I took the car to the local dealer on Dec. 3,2009 and a mechanic rode with me in the car and agreed that both axles are bad. I left the car with the dealer to confirm this problem. When I picked up the car, they charged me $ 50. 00 for inspection and wrote the report that only left axel was bad. As I have already pointed out, mechanic had already confirmed that both axles were bad. It appears that to 'tone down' this defect, Toyota home office advised the dealer to report that only one axel was bad. Dealer's estimate for replacing one axel was around $ 900. 00 after 10% discount on the parts. I understand that there may be only few 2009 Camrys which would have 64,000 miles on them. I request you to register my complaint and look for other 2009 Camry users to report this problem. Another problem I have noticed is the similar brake problem that Toyota has in prius models. When applying brakes on a slippery condition, car does not stop for few feet. Please also investigate this matter.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. While driving 25 mph over railroad tracks the vehicle accelerated resulting in a crash. The contact did not report any injuries. The contact applied the brakes until the brake pedal touched the floorboard; however, the vehicle did not stop. When the steering wheel locked, the windshield wipers began to function. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Toyota dealer to be repaired for the body damage but it was not examined for the cause of failure. The contact stated that a few months later the accelerator pedal recall was repaired; however, after the repair was performed the vehicle surged forward intermittently until the brakes were applied. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the brake system was repaired. The failure had not recurred but there was a rocking noise in the engine. The vehicle was taken to another authorized dealer who stated that the motor mount was cracked; yet, the vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage is 18,000. 5/10/2010 the consumer stated the was an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle upon acceleration and when making turns. Updated 06/24/10.
Very soft brakes in 2009 Toyota Camry. Brakes must be pumped to get any real braking action. At times brake pedal will continue to go down when brakes are pressed with no additional braking action. Toyota claims brakes to be in spec and working properly, the brakes are functioning as designed. I have had this problem since I got the car, new. And, have felt very unsafe, as I never knew when the brakes would effectively slow the vehicle. Even when pushing hard, as in a panic stop, my legs are only so long. Toyota changed a valve twice, but are now saying that this was not necessary, the brakes are fine. I have tried to replicate a brake test done by the Toyota tech service rep, but cannot. The test was to press the brake pedal and rev the car up to red line.
I have had a 2009 Camry hybrid since July 2009 and have noticed- what I would refer to as "power surges while braking (sometimes almost lurching forward uncontrollably - I almost rear ended cars in front of me in traffic a few times - especially on bumpy roads" I thought it was due to the capturing of too much energy from the regenerative braking system so that it charges the battery while braking. Only once I heard people on the radio describing the prius braking problem did I realize it sounds exactly the same! why haven't we heard anything about this for the Camry hybrids? I never owned a hybrid previously and although I am unhappy with the braking, I thought it was normal for a hybrid and I just needed to get used to it. I only recently commented on a survey, that Toyota sent to me, about it - as I thought it was normal for the hybrid. I have not yet contacted the dealer.
The car is difficult to steer in a straight line at higher speeds (above 50mph). The steering keeps pulling to the left even when the road is banked in the opposite direction. This has been present since new and currently car has 7000 miles. This was pointed out in the1000 mile service and wheel alignment was done by Toyota dealership to rectify the issue. However, the problem does not seem to be related to wheel alignment and is present even after the alignment work. At 70mph, the car is difficult to keep in a straight line using both hands on the steering, and a constant corrective effort is required. This makes the car go in a slight zig zag within the lane and does not inspire confidence, and needless to say scares other travelers driving in their own lanes. Another issue is very inconsistent braking. This is a Camry hybrid and the point of shift between regenerative braking and friction braking is very inconsistent. The regenerative braking feels and to be slow down the car at a slower pace until friction braking comes up and immediately slows the car down. The net result is car does not slow down as it should initially but then doing so very quickly. This is very evident is slow moving traffic. Plus, my car seems to have a light screeching noise coming from right brake (not the usual brake noise). This happens only when car is cold, and when not braking. When braking it goes away. It has been present since new and Toyota has not been able to replicate or correct it.
Abs brakes not properly stopping.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph the brake pedal was engaged then the steering wheel began to vibrate violently. The failure recurred whenever driving 65 mph and greater. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer five separate times where both front rotors were replaced. The technician informed that the rotors were warped. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 13,371. Js.
My 2009 Toyota Camry may have another issue with the brakes. I am not sure if it is related to the other recalls, because I sent an email to Toyota on Monday and have not yet heard back from them. When I press on the brake pedal, as I am coming to a stop, my brakes appear to stop working and the car will surge forward. This happens a lot (at least once a week) and I thought maybe it was just the Toyota as this is the first Toyota that I have owned. I think that Toyota should have to buy-back these vehicles. My reasons for purchasing the Toyota were, safety and resale value. My vehicle is no longer safe and has a highly decreased resale/trade-in value. So, much that I am not even able to trade it in for a safe vehicle.
There's a brake delay when I am driving at low speed. It occurs every time I drive at low speeds and try to make full stop at a stop sign, when I hit pot holes, I feel the brake sort of skid.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. Whenever the contact would start the vehicle, there was an unusual clunking noise coming from the brakes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer advised the vehicle was functioning normally. There were no prior warnings. The failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileages were 29,000.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) hello, I'm [xxx] from u. S. Army. My car, Toyota Camry 2009, had a same problem with that sudden acceleration back in 2008. The car was, of course, brand new, and I had that same experience - all of sudden acceleration. It was after I was finished the all duties for the day, and I was head to my home. When I just drove on the highway, the rpm went up so quickly and suddenly, and even I stepped on the brakes several times. But the rpm had never been go down and stop. So I made the decision to make the transmission shift to neutral, and it worked at that time. At that time, I was in like country side in fort gordon, georgia, and now I'm in south korea to perform the duty here. At that time of that incident, I thought it could happen maybe one time. . Very one time. . However, when I read the current newspaper article. . I feel very terrible about this. . Because now my wife and my 3year old son ride in Toyota Camry. . (that's the only one car in our household). . What if there would be a same happening to my wife and my son. . I was o. K. Because the highway I drove on was almost no traffic. . As I mentioned earlier, I lived in country side ft. Gordon, georgia. . But after I got the duty station in south korea, I relocated my family back to los angeles county, California. . (that's where I came from) I know my wife once told me. . She felt little bit more acceleration when she drove toward down slope. . She had to do the samething, put the transmission shift to the neutral. . What if this kind of incident would be happened in a heavy traffic. . Man. . I wish that I would have a total solution for this. . I know that I can't return the car, right?.
