1 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2014 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/11/2019

Complete replacement required of both rear wheel bearings, backing plates, brake calipers, pads and rotors, with recommended replacement of tires, on a vehicle with less than 52,000 miles. Because the vehicle is out of warranty, the initial repair estimate was almost $4000. 00. The dealer, however, agreed to repair for about $2500. 00 (pass through cost of parts). This matter came to light upon hearing a 'screeching' noise when the vehicle was moving - the screeching noise suggesting a wheel bearing was failing. Manufacturer alleges replacement is needed due to exposure of these parts to road salt. However, I have owned numerous other vehicles that were exposed to road salt and never experienced such problems. Contrary to the manufacturer's allegation, I suspect a design or manufacturing defect in these parts. In fact, about the same time as the above problem, another like vehicle that we own (2017 model with about 15,000 miles) experienced a frozen rear brake caliper (allegedly for the same reason, namely, expose to road salt) that is being replaced under warranty.

2 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2017 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

Rear back brakes are not safe they lock up. Toyota 2017 Camry purchase 9/2016. 8/2018 , had 5 pt inspection brakes were good 8mm all 4 at 27000 miles. Then 10/2018, left rear wheel screeching noises & wheel became extremely hot to touch after driving15-20 minutes. Dealer said it "was environmental", found that rear brake was frozen in bracket and sitting sideways. How did that happen? they did say it was the way I drove and environmental. They fixed it and cost me $500 I asked is this dangerous if brake freezes. ? 1 year later 10/2019 and only 11000 miles on the new back brake pads and rotors, the same thing happens to the same wheel, left rear. . I called dealer and brought car in. What a dilemma. Again they said it is environmental?? dust??. They reported that the the new brakes pads are now 7mm after replacing them in 10/2018?? how so ? it appeared that again the pads got stuck in the caliper braket which they cleaned up and lubed. Same problem in 10/2018 I asked why is this happening , could the caliper and bracket be defective. They said it is the material corrodes faster. They told me I should have a brake inspection cleaning every year for $125 as preventative. Now how does a car after just three years have another brake problem, the rear left wheel. All other wheels/brakes are good? so it is environmental for one wheel?? headquarters of Toyotas knows about this problem and telling the dealers to tell the customer that it is environmental. Also dealer admitted that there have been other cars same problem and Toyota hdqt know about it but not doing a thing. It scares me to drive this car with a potential braking problem that may cause an accident if the brake freezes and I am not aware of it and the brake pad deteriorates on a long drive. Toyota should owe up to the poor quality of material they are using cause a dangerous situation to arise.

3 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

On this date I brought the vehicle to henricks of Toyota of apex because when backing slowing with vehicle and touching the brakes it would make noise as if the calipers were loose. The mechanic stated he could not hear anything, so then I asked him to come with me while I drive it. We were on an incline backing and I pushed the brakes and he stated the noise that he couldn't hear, he hears now and stated that the brakes are loose in there and that is normal because it if was tighter in there then it would make squealing noise and that with the moisture that rust can build up in there and cause that noise. I had albert gilmore document on my copy of the invoice. I will be calling the nc state attorney generals office, consumer affairs to file a written complaint because it should not be making any noise. There had been another dealer in the area that did not want to back up their bumper to bumper warrantee and the attorney general had taken the dealer to court and won a judgment for the customers and they had to pay up!.

10 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 05/30/2012

At speeds over above 60 mph the car pulls hard to the left. This was reported to the dealer. I had to replace the rear brakes because the right rear brake froze and destroyed the rotor. I had a full brake inspection and was told that they were ok. One week later the front brake locked up on the passenger and went on fire. The dealer tells me the caliper froze. Now I have to replace all the pads and rotors on the front end. The is a serious and dangerous problem with this model Camry. I have read endless reports of difficulty with controlling this car while braking at highway speeds. This is a braking issue not alignment.

Failure Date: 05/08/2011

1. The car had a failure in the brake system according to: • the repair shop, • the insurance adjustor and • Toyota independent inspection. Basically a bolt that secures the hose to the caliper was loose which caused the oil to leak and the brakes to fail. It is important to note that there was no negligence of maintaining the car since the car is new - only about 4,000 miles -and serviced only at the dealer according to service schedule.

15 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2010 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

I have a 2010 Camry approx 11,000+ mileage. I had my car checked for the brakes due to the popping sound when release brake pedal and clicking after putting car in reverse and then drive. Toyota responded: the sound you are hearing is normal operation of the brake system. When you shift from reverse into drive, the brake calipers mechanically adjust to the vehicle's forward motion. When this adjustment happens, a clicking sound can sometimes be heard. This is a normal characteristic of the vehicle and will not cause any issues to the brake system. I just dropped my car off again this morning to have repairs done for the recall after the first time telling me that it wasn't sticking; but I heard that it should still be repaired. I asked them to check the brakes again and the service rep said the sound doesn't sound normal. I'm extremely nervous driving the car and worried about the unknown of what can happen. I have been driving cars for many years and never had the brakes sound this way.

21 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2000 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/01/2003

There is serious vibration in the front brakes. Every time the consumer applies the brakes the vehicle will shake and so will the steering wheel. Can hear a noise coming from the front brakes. Noticed this problem on August 1, 2003. Contacted the dealer, and had to change the calipers and the rotors. Have had the rotors replaced , then shaved them twice, and the dealer wanted to charge the consumer for repairs.

22 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/06/2003

Since I purchased this car it has been problems, first it was the brakes vibrating, took it in and right away the dealer knew what it was without me even explaining it to him, they fixed that in 2 trips. Then it was the rotten egg smell, they could not find anything wrong. (then why does my car stink when I try to get power out of the engine?) then it was the knocking and pinging in the engine, (I was told that they could not duplicate the problem, but my octane level was low to upgrade my gas. The manufacturers provided owners manual states 87 octane gas or higher, I already use 89 octane and have since the day I bought the car, so why should I have to spend money on higher priced gas when the car is only 1 year old and the engine should not make any noises. Now it is the tires and alignment the alignment is completely off that the tires are destroyed with only 17,250 miles on them, yet the car shows no sign of the alignment being off, it drives straight stays in one lane and the steering wheel is even straight, so how after one year with low miles is the alignment off and the tires are destroyed, and why was it unnoticed when I had my tires balanced and rotated 2 months earlier at 15,000 miles? by the same dealership! I feel that this car has alot of problems that the manufacturer does not want to address, look at how many other people are having the same problems, and we are all told that it is wear and tear or that there is no problem at all, well then why are we all having the same problems? I called Toyota's main office logged a complaint and was told that someone would get back to me, it has been 3 days now and not one call has come my way! I feel that I should not have to pay for the repairs to this car since it is a nation wide problem, especially since it is a $27000. 00 car that has depreciated in value by more than $7000. 00 in less than one year, what happened to Toyota's retaining there value? I wish everybody much luck with their issues.
