Car brakes make a horrible grinding noise and car will suddenly turn off as it's running on the road. All the lights on my dash board turn on right before the car shuts off. Luckily I've been able to direct my car to the side of road. Took it to my nearest Toyota dealership for service. They returned my car in the same condition 4 times. Each time telling me the issue has been resolved and put me on the road again thinking it was fixed till my car turned off again. Luckily I've was very careful. This final time I took it to a different dealership and now they have said they figured it out. I heed a brake booster and actuator possibly brake pedal. Costing me a total of 6000. 00. I was in shock I've never heard of a car issue like this.

A rubbing/grinding noise was intermittenly being heard from the back end during braking and, at times, during acceleration. After contacting an employee at the local Toyota dealership, I was informed that this is a common problem with the Camrys and that most likely my brake pads would need to be replaced. After bringing my vehicle in for repair, I was shown on my brakes where they had become stuck and the rotars needed repair as well. If this is a common problem, then perhaps Toyota should do something about it.

I have a 2006 Toyota Camry. When driving over small bumps in the road, speedbumps, potholes, especially at speeds over 45-55 mph, there is a grinding noise that comes from the front left wheel that sounds like metal-on-metal such as something grinding on the rotor, almost like the wheel is coming off. When this sound occurs, the brakes do not work - when the brakes are applied, you get a grinding noise such as the noise you would get when your brakes are so low that it begins grinding on the rotor. I told the dealer about this problem approximately 1-2 weeks ago and I had my brakes replaced, but the problem is still occurring. This is a huge safety threat as I have to get off of the interstate because the stopping ability of the car was severely compromised. The problem occurs at high speeds when driving over extremely minor bumps. The dealership states that nothing is wrong with the car.

Toyota Camry 2005 lx. Brake failure occurs when braking on slightly uneven surface while depressing brakes on a small bump or pothole. The brakes make a grinding noise and do not work for a few seconds. After the surface is even the brakes work fine. This is not simply the abs. For safety reason I must use emergency 'hand brake' to prevent major accidents while on uneven surfaces. I have managed to avoid accidents by using the handbrake or braking way ahead of time when I see an uneven spot in front of me. Have accidents have been reported with this problem on other same model year cars? for me this occurs regularly while on uneven surfaces since I purchased the car. Has there been a recall by Toyota regarding the issue I described?.

Brake failure when braking on slightly uneven surface. 2005 Toyota Camry le - current 50k miles while depressing brakes on a small bump or pothole, it brakes make a grinding noise and do not work for a few seconds. After the surface is even the brakes work fine. This is not simply abs as occurs with slight brake pressure and on very minor bumps on the road. For safety, must use emergency 'hand brake' to prevent major accidents while on uneven surfaces. One incident, brake failure occurred while trying to stop at red light and a small bump on road near stop line caused car to not stop and jump the curb on street. Thankfully no permanent damage or bodily injury. Since I have managed to avoid accidents with handbrake or braking way ahead of time when I see an uneven spot in front of me. . However, accidents have been reported with this problem on other same model year cars. This occurs regularly while on uneven surfaces starting near purchase date. Have taken to dealer several times and reported as 'normal'. Suspect current brake recall needs to be expanded by Toyota.
I would like to report that I have a Toyota 2003 Camry model xle and I have experienced a similar brake problem as recently reported in the Toyota prius. When I am braking on an uneven or slippery surface, I hear a strange grinding noise, the brakes lock up, and the car skids. I have brought my car to the Toyota dealer for repair and they could not find anything wrong. This problem has been going on for a few years. I do not remember when I first noticed the problem.

When abs brakes are engaged they fail to work. Was driving down a road going about 20 mph on snow coverd road. Brakes was applied, grinding noise and vibration in the pedal was experienced-the brakes failed to stop the vehicle adequately, it took about 40 feet to stop going at 20mph. This does not happen when abs is not active.

Brakes making a grinding noise. Have had replaced three times, the first time under a manufacturer replacement bulletin. The 2nd time the brakes were replaced was in 6/99 (bryan easler Toyota. . . Excellent service). Third time the brakes were replaced -- 9/2000 at 55,000 miles (Toyota of concord). Grinding noise has started again -- 4 months after replacement with only 8,000 miles on them. I can't believe I've owned this car 3. 5 years and have had to replace the brakes so many times. I believe Toyota needs to be held responsible for this problem. A friend, also with a '97 Camry, has the same problem. If it were a cosmetic problem, it would be no big deal. But these are brakes -- a major safety factor. Any help to get this resolved will be appreciated.
