The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving at 80 mph, the vehicle independently downshifted to 20 mph as several warning lights appeared on the dashboard. In addition, the contact lost brake power as the brake pedal depressed to the floorboard. Despite the failure, the contact was managed to drive the vehicle home and later had the vehicle towed to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with a failed high pressure fuel pump. The contact had previously received a recall notice NHTSA campaign number: 20v682000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be reparied. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
