2002 Toyota Camry. The consumer wants to be reimbursed for repairs. The check engine light illuminated. The dealer stated there was a problem with the emission system. The problem was repaired and the consumer was charged $600. 00. Two days later, the light illuminated again. The consumer returned to the dealership, but the problem was not resolved. When the consumer stopped for gas, he noticed the gas tank would not fill up, the gas would spill out. The consumer went to another establishment and it was determined that a pair of pliers were on the vent of the gas tank. The dealership was contacted and the consumer was told a mistake was made by one of their mechanics. The second dealership replaced the vacuum switching valve.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. He stated that the accelerator pedal would slowly return to the idle position on several occasions. He contacted the manufacturer and was told that recall number 09v388000, vehicle speed control, accelerator pedal. He was told to take the vehicle in to be repaired, if parts were available. The dealer did not have the necessary parts in stock to make the recall repairs. Also, he stated that according to emissions standards, his liter fuel tank should get 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway; however, he was only receiving 275-280 miles on a full tank. No repairs were made to date. The failure mileage was 11,864 and the current was 20,135.

My 2007 Toyota Camry has a hesitation and transmission noise problem during accelerating at startup and when you release the accelerator and step on it again. This became noticeable a couple of days after we drove it home. I brought it back for service several days after. The dealer said every thing checked out. They did not test drive it because they said it checked out. After several months of trying different gasolines and different octanes ratings from different companies I gave up. Then we took a trip from our home in texas to a our home town in louisiana. I had to fill up in my hometown and that's when I discovered the possible problem. The gas in houston texas has ethanol in it. The gas in my hometown does not. When I filled up in my home town with regular unleaded from exxon, I noticed that the hesitation and transmission noise was barely noticeable after the first tank full. After several trips to my hometown it became quite clear that it is the gas with ethanol that's causing the hesitation and transmission noise. The cars being built now are suppose to all run on ethanol, but it obvious that there is a problem, but the dealer is telling me that, " it checks out according to spec. "
I was going up an on ramp onto the freeway and was accelerating when I noticed a car change into the right lane. I removed my foot from the accelerator to slow for the car to get pass. I then pressed the accelerator again to get up speed. When I did that, the car decelerated about five miles per hour and the car coming up behind me almost ran into me. Notice: the incident date is every date. I put the incident date as the day I bought it. The "what source referred you etc" is information I have come across over the years from reading different articles in different magazines. Please help me get Toyota to do something about this problem. I thing the dealers ignore seniors, because we are not a force in the buyers market. Thanks you very much

I purchased a 2007 Toyota Camry le in September 2006. Five months after purchase, I noticed a loud "thud" from the rear of the car during normal acceleration. I also noticed that this only occurs when the fuel tank is between half to full. I took the car to the Toyota dealer for evaluation. The service department assessed the car and stated, "it was operating with in the design parameters of the car, and it was just the gas in the tank. " in addition, they stated "we cannot do anything about it because it is a normal function of the car. " I then filed for arbitration and the arbitrator ruled it was a defect and must be repaired by Toyota. I have made an appointment with the dealer who stated he does not know how to repair the problem, but that a Toyota technical representative will be there to direct the repair of the documented problem. I am concerned that this may be a safety issue; therefore, I am requesting immediate action. I feel that if the car cannot be repaired to my satisfaction with total elimination of above problem, that it will still be a safety issue, and that Toyota re-purchase vehicle.
- the contact owns a 1997 Toyota Camry. The vehicle had a fuel leak. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic ,where he determined that the 90 degree fuel line cracked, which caused the fuel to leak over the outside of the tank. The contact had the fuel line replaced, but the manufacturer felt that this was not a safety problem and charged the contact for the repairs. The fule pump was replaced. Updated 01/25/07.

- the contact owns a 2002 Toyota Camry. She noticed gas fumes and a gas leak coming from the vehicle. The dealership informed the contact this occurred when the gas tank was overfilled. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic for repair. The mechanic informed the contact that the charcoal canister needed to be replaced. There have not been any other occurrences since the replacement. The current mileage was 70000. The consumer stated she always topped of the tank and there was no where in the manual where it said it couldn't be done. Updated 04//12/07.
I started smelling gas odors inside of the car after filling the tank. I took the car to the dealer in July 2006 and told them that I also saw gas dripping on the ground. They found nothing. I continued to have the smell. Two weeks ago I smelled the fumes inside and saw leak. Dealer replaced gas tank, saying there was rust near the top of the tank. My car is garaged, so I don't understand.

Emissions system. Obd ii code p0446 failed vent valve (apparently there are 3 of these, one next to the air cleaner housing, and two on the charcoal canister located under the car next to the gas tank). The system is installed to meet epa requirements which limit hydrocarbon emissions from the atmosphere. This failure along with others represented by codes p0440, p0441, p0442, etc. Have been reported especially for Toyota models built from the late 1990's through early to mid 2000s and have plagued motorist for the last ten years or more. Yet no action has been taken by epa or dot to remedy what is obviously a defect in this system in these cars as reported numerous times here and in other places on the internet. Why not? if limiting emissions is so important why haven't you required a recall of automobiles manufactured with defective emissions systems? what has also been reported by owners of these automobiles is consistent misdiagnosis of this failure by dealer service departments and independent mechanics costing drivers hundreds if not thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs only to have the same code(s) reoccur a few days or weeks later. The result: failed state emissions tests, drivers unable to use their automobiles to get to work, and more costly repairs. Not to mention fouled air. If this system is so complex that even dealers can't properly diagnose and repair it, that in itself is cause to recall it, repair it properly and get these cars back on the road safely. You state that complaint information is important to your agency, yet you've done nothing to resolve this issue for the majority of motorists that have reported this flaw to you many times over many years. Don't you think it's time you did so? some may conclude that your failure to act indicates that the manufacturers control your agency and not the other way around.

Dealer claims that I damaged the charcoal canister by 'topping off" the gas tank. His definition of "topping off" is to fill until the pump shuts off, then add a little more to get a round number total cost. Since most people "top off" the tank using this definition, it would seem that this must be a design defect. The dealer says that if it is not fixed the car will fail required emissions tests, but that if it is fixed and I "top off" the tank it will fail again. There is no warning against "topping off" the tank in the owners manual. Therefore normal refueling results is permanant damage to the emissions system. This means that the emissions system can not be maintained in working condition. Dt.

Dealer wants 80$ to tell us if gas tank purge valve is under warrenty or not. Also dealer states that door handle clip breaking is a common problem.
Wheel vibration at 60-65 mph. Tires balanced 3 times and checked for run out. Original tires replaced with michelin. Problem improved but steering wheel vibrates side to side. Suspension noise from right front end when going over speed bumps, accelerating from a stop and after making left turns. Hear gas movement from fuel tank when tank is full and accelerating from a stop or going over speed bumps. Dealers say car perform to specs. Currently in the pre-arbitration stage with Toyota.

The day after purchasing the car we noticed a thumping coming from the rear of the vehicle. We returned the car to the dealer to check it out. Upon examination, they said we needed new rear struts. They only replaced the strut caps. Shortly after, we filled the gas tank, as it was when we received the car, and realized the thumping sound was still present. We returned to the dealer again. This time they said we needed a new fuel tank, a technician they called in California told them this. After changing the fuel tank, the thumping sound is still present. Next they brought in a special technician, who examined our car and said it was completely normal. Now we began the process of the massachusetts lemon law. Toyota now wanted to examine the car one final time with a regional rep and another technician. They both heard the thumping and decided the rear sway bar needed adjustment, and this would solve our problem. No such luck, the thumping noise is still occuring. We also have found the trunk is not flush with the rear fenders. The technicians say it was just installed wrong and can be corrected. It seems all our problems are in the rear end of the vehicle, and still after almost 3 months nothing is resolved.
Ongoing problem with a clunking sound coming from rear of vehicle. Noticed clunking sound would appear intermittently below a half of tank of fuel, and always between half and almost full tank of fuel. Dealer notified, and believed the problem was in the suspension. Repairs made , but problem still occurring. Vehicle was taken in to dealer on another occasion, and consumer was informed that nothing could be done. Manufacturer notified, and informed consumer that no solution could be found.
Abs system light came in. Dealer replaced abs system, but had me drive car while system was on order. Brakes responded poorly without system and didn't drive due to concern of failing brake. Rear system failed rear struts replaced . Gas tank has loud thud when tank full to half tank, thud intermitent when tank under half. Dealer said car may just have thud/siad some cars designed with baffles that thud.
Fuel is being pushed through the air check valve in California smog system, which is allowing fuel to flow onto engine components that heat up during operation of vehicle. There will be puddles of fuel under vehicle when it is parked in one position, which could be considered a fire hazard. Dealership has been contacted and refused to assist the consumer. Please provide any additional information/attachments/photographs.

Gas gauge failed.
When the fuel tank is 3/4 of a tank full or fuller a thumping noise occurs in the fuel tank, cause unknown, fuel tank has been replaced twice which has not corrected the problem. Please give any further details.
Gas gauge takes several minutes to indicate full tank after fill up.
Gas tank makes sloshing noises.
Consumer had a defective gas tank. When she bought the vehicle it was fine. As soon as the gas tank is three quarters full it makes clunking noise. When dealer test drove vehicle it had almost no gas in the tank. Gas tank wa sreplaced with a tank from Camry on 13/08/1999, and it still does the same thing.
The fuel gauge is not correctly set up. Nlm.
